Well it's happened the feral photographer (Christine) has finished the site for the pre85MXWA club. Well not quite a club yet. But all things point to it being successful
www.pre85mxwa.com
Now it's time for all those who showed interest or are interested to stand up.
I believe already events arranged for next yr include;
Club run with the Collie Club
Tumbellgum Farm support class to the moderns
Manjimup 15000, support Class, any eastern states want to ride at one of australia's premier events
Club run with the manjimup club.
More to come, just the start.
Don't be shy, "Lets get Dirty" with the pre85mxwa.

Great stuff-love the look... 8)
Looking forward to a good year in 2010 8)
Just discovered the we posses a 1978 PE250 down the shed somewhere ::)...the things you learn :o
enjoy

Welcome to the new millenium WA. The value of our Wasps just went up further with your entry to almost modern class.
Good luck and hope your fields are overflowing.
We had a quieter club day yesterday with many opting to say home out of the dust. Debbie and the other girls have called a strike for want of better conditions after two events in a row beig as dusty as buggery and dry as a dead dingos donger. The water truck did more laps than all of us put together so please send us some lovely rain.
Had our first DNF when we broke a throttle cable in the opener but still managed to win two and I think we can't be beat in the club champs now.
Was hoping to see you all at the ASA titles-do we need to send travel cash??
-
would be a real coup to get sidecars as well will have to chat to the appropriate people, Alison where are you!!!
-
Correct on both counts, we are more frail and our outfits are far cheaper than the pre75 lot!! or else we would stay at home and lament into our beers about how good we was.
It's only the extremely wealthy folk with exceptional well-being and fitness that can even consider running a pre75- and it helps if you've snapped up all the outfits sitting in sheds so you can keep them in a bunker and pick and choose which one you need to win a title or two.
Oh those solo boys have it soooo easy eh!
Just watch out that the pre85 guys don't show up on a two stroke rocket or we'll soon be back to where we were in 1985 when the light weights buggered our sport.
-
sorry about the thread hijack.
Got talking to a bloke while looking at the wonderful full grid lines at Manji hanging on the wall in pic form, and I asked the questions of "what has happened to all those 70,80's outfits" , he was in the belief another contributing factor was the introduction of four wheeler's into the mx scene.
Not that I have seen more than 7 four wheelers on the start line at a club level in the last 5 odd years.Full grids at the Nats though
Bring on the Pre85MXWA club season 8)
cheers
-
It's ok to highjack a thread-it makes the followers keep up and pay attention. We could shift to side car thread if you want?
The most likley reason for any decline in sidecar numbers is the lack of passengers and/or their training in the first place. we must keep a good supply at hand or fail.
-
Your problem is that people are too well educated these days. They all know how scary it is getting into the chair and relying on some crazed rider with white line fever to keep the whole thing upright :o :o :o
I spent my teens swinging for my father in speedway 8) , but then I was too smart to give MX a go (well, I did it once, but only once) ;D
-
Pirie, the year I started I was asked to to try speedway as they were a bit short that year, seems they lost 2 passengers in a big crash up in Darwin and new recruits were very hard to find.
I think I will see if ASA will let me put up an award for the best up and coming motocross passenger each year-perhaps some dough towards sending them to UK or Europe for a trip.
-
Hey Tossa, good luck with the WA Pre '85 getting up but somehow it seems to have turned into the WA Sidecar Club. How that happened is beyond me so you'll need all the luck you can find to stay focused.
-
If you get the right outfit, you can unbolt the chair and race the open solo, then bolt it back on when/if your passenger turns up/lol!!
-
It's very simple
If you want to talk about it, present it on our start line, wouild be brilliant!!!
Yeah, Magoo i know fighting a loosing battle. but how slow do you have to talk for these sidecar freaks to understand!!lol
-
look if your realy gunna push this pre 85 thing can we have a handicap (ie i do 1 lap to you guys doing five) im to old three laps kills me
and on the side cars i still remember greg billing and andrew bowling in tassie riding a yz 80 chair it looked hillarious even though difficult to ride so if the chair guys have the balls to play that way bring it on as a class
-
Alli. I meant sending just the best passenger to UK/Europe for a try out, not the whole team. That way they could learn a bit more and understand how much their effort/input goes towards the whole sidecar driving thing.
And if they were good enough they might get the chance to stay and race.
-
So the sidecar boys are running out of passengers eh?
I beleive the Japanese had a similar problem with their Kamakaze pilots ::) ;D
-
why don't you guys try riding in the west first before overseas.

Hold on a minute it's my job to play tail end charlie. You want the job Ian, then I need to win a raffle or two!!lol
-
The West sounds great to me as I have some very close friends there, some new and some old. We were planning to go there this year as we thought the Nats were going to be there, then they ran out of a track or something ??
Let us know when and we will come. I'd better get back onto fixing up the bus as it will take it 2 weeks to get there!!

Our club is holding our last Modern Club day on the 24th,as it turns out the sweep rider has bought a YZ490 Pre85 bike out from Seattle USA so another Keen rider. ;D

Oh you of little faith. Is the disbelief because of the fact there are membership forms on the net (Christine and Nat) would not be impressed. Or is it because there is a good chance (depending on responses) that there might actually be a pre85 club in WA.
Though i suppose over here it could be considered a miracle, better go to church this week just in case
Hey Ross doesn't matter what roster we're on next year the events will be arranged just to make certain we can't make it. Don't know if it's anything to do with my big mouth or my lack of ability. Though I do have one thing in my favour (the feral photographer) but then again she who will be obeyed, says she'll go without me.
Get those memberships in guys and girl

Tossa - I reckon Paul is scared of my soon to be repaired 250 - he will arrange the calendar so he doesn't have to face me :'( :'(

You awake, Ross, Ross you awake??? Mate you were dreaming. think you'll need to run over him in the pits, preferably with a 4 wheel drive.
It's alright Ross as I come around on the 'pie floater' some minutes behind you'll. When i find you gasping for breath on the side of the track I'll stop and pull out the bottle of port, when we've finished that, might see if we can hit Paul as he rides past AGAIN!!!! lol

It would be nice to see pre85 as a support class with VMXWA club run at Collie too (Especially since they don't run sidecars there)
-
CG I think they are going to run them with the moderns at one of our club days (CMCC Collie Motorcycle Club),but yes one day they may have a run with the vmxwa, not just yet.
Tracks a bit tight for sidecars,no mistakes in passing that's for sure. I reckon someone would get hurt or end up in the water (lake) ;D
cheers
-
It was just a thought, afterall there wern't many from VMXWA there this year. I also think that if the VMX nationals are to return to W.A a co-operative effort between clubs may be required too.

I'm not going to have a conversation on here about the loyalty/politics of clubs ,but you have to remember there is a lot of strong spirit of the era people involved with ozvmx across our country. 8)

-
have to agree Alison. I think in time the whole thing will sort itself out for the betterment of the sport in the state. But until then "ce la vie" (don't know if I spelt it right!!lol)
All the pre85 events so far as I know are to be run in conjunction with modern events ie club runs etc
-
Things going well. Application in with MWA for affiliation. Will know in about 6 weeks.
Had a run at short notice at the BSA club run (thank you) Only 7 riders, but had a great time, signed about another 10 members.
Believe we now have approx 50 members, so all going well. If you want to join or find out about the club go to the website: http://pre85mxwa.com/
Next season one week VMXWA, next a pre85 event sounds good to me. Just to have the choice and then hopefully in time a complete meeting of VMX and Pre85. Now that would be great to see in WA.

-
Tossa ,
Just out of curiosity (cats already dead ;D ) is there amount of members that MWA need/wants before they will affiliate a new club ???
cheers
-
I believe the figure to affilialate is 15, but don't quote me!lol
-
Tos - I thought it was 50?
-
Race line up of the club looks good and I hope to be on the line in 2010. The bike is nearing completion :)
-

Fatboy
-
Hey Shane we only had 7 bikes as we only got invited monday night, it was 32 degrees on Sunday, VMX raced the weekend before. Just all rushed. You can find a membership form at the website, though I feel we'll be alright.
Does that mean Ross and I have to put up a fatboy racing tent at the meetings!! lol Ross will be happy any excuse to wear his kaftan!! and tea cosy
Ross as i said don't quote me on figures, but we had to have the application into MWA last Friday, with a certain amount of members, I have been known to be wrong, but I think the last time was 1968 or was it my last post!!lol

Cheers Tossa, I going on holidays tomorrow for a month but will be signing up when I get back. I though 3 = collector or nut case ;D but greedy is fine LOL. The race format looks good, I just what to go for a blast and I am not into supercross style tracks. Natural terrain is more me; the only thing I have to prove is having a good day out.
I hope the RG will be accepted; the bike was manufactured in 85, picked up in November 85 and was in the first shipment of 6 to WA, apparently the rest when to teams. The bike is an 86 and I don’t intent to change models, that decision was made when I bought the bike along time ago. :)

Think you might have problems entering the bike in Pre85 races, though we will have ride days. But that is something yuo'll have to sort out with the Committee

Tossa, I talked to Ian Campbell a few years back and his feeling was more the merry & casual as but I guess some might get caught up on the 85 date. I will approach committee and see how they feel but if I am not allowed to play with your group then I will have to do a lonely. We are a small community so I hope it doesn’t end up being tragic for me.
-
No offence to Ian but this is a totally new entity. What Ian tried to (and tried damn hard) to get up and running, just didn't get going. This is being organised by different personnel. The club is formed along the lines of all Classic motorcycle clubs that race bikes of the era.
My suggestion is to contact Paul through the website
-
The feral photographer still has to put up a "Wanted" part of that section. She hopes to be able to complete it this weekend. We have some hard task masters dictating the content of the website. But have to be sympathetic to their wishes, they do live in manjimup!!lol Technology, just arrived there

He's a Maico rider, they have been known to get fussy. ;) ;D

He's sold a few of those now has a CR500. Those still has a couple. but i have learnt to talk slowly to him and his wife!! She'll kill me if she gets to read this!! Can't wait!!lol

Tos - I thought it was 50?
Here you go,I got a reply. 8) Heeps more than I thought :o
To become an affiliated club requires 15 country members and 50 city members. The club also needs to be incorporated. An application should also come with a background on the club, all of which would be put to Council at their scheduled meeting.
cheers West Oz
-
goes before MWA on the 7 Dec for affiliation
-
Hi Baz,
Hows the member count going enough to get you affiliated with MWA I would like to join up, were do I get a form from and if I join now will that cover me for next year ;D or will you rogues charge me again :D :D
Cheers
Fatboy
-
G'day Shane, yes you can join this yr for next. Numbers up around 50 so doing great. You can get the membership form from www.pre85mxwa.com

Guys, looks like I dipped out, 86 is out of the date range for the pre85 club (fancy that) so I will be the square peg at a race meeting somewhere. Too young for some, too old and freaky for the others and I am comfortable with the later. We have a couple of natural terrain events here in WA with 40+ age group so that gives me an opportunity to ride.
Hopefully, the modern riders aren’t scared of a 23 year old bike, well if not, I am. ;D :o ;D
As long as I get the hole shot they can have rest. :)

Pity, but that't the way it is. but trust me, as Alison has said, you'll be welcome with the moderns. Just let them win the holeshot for the first couple then take your foot of the brake and smoke em!!
-
Cheers guys, yep I may need to be gentle but I recon after the second corner and arm pump I will just roll round so I hope to cool any fear of the old red horse being a menace

Work is north side of river, so somewhere on the northside ;)
-
will you be here in time for the Manjimup 1500 on 6 June, get your entry in if you are!!!
-
Nah, a bit early for me :'(
-
YZ - Perth has a good freeway system - from one end to the other basically 1 hour (of course depending upon time of the day). With VMX you will travel regardless - Narrogin is basically 3 hours south of North Perth - but all good driving.
When are you heading this way?
Rossco
-
Thanks Rossco,
Shifting over there for work. Looks like I will be living northside Joondalup area. Client has city office, My company has main office Canning Vale and my satellite office will be northside (TBA). Bringing the 250H and 465H with me. Also 50H and 125H in bits (a man's gotta have a hobby ;) )
First priority when I get there is locate a hiace or similar van for bike transport. First trip to Perth after CD7 (tuesday morning) a few flying trips here and there before the family move over late June. Looking forward to it. Apparently I will need to buy a paddle tyre for the back to deal with all the sand ?? :-\ ::)

Yep the support of the pre85 guys at manjimup was fantastic, with guys from all different clubs coming together for the event.
Now it's time to look forward to the King of thee Cross 7-8 Aug, hopefully this will bring out more pre85 bikes, all those hidden out in the goldfields plus all Eastern State riders welcome as well.

Pre85 WA have been invited to Darkan's new venue within the Darkan Speedway Circuit.
Collie MCC & Pre85 aren't expecting many as there are three or four other events on closer to the city, some may not travel for this event.
The Collie clubday has class's available with all modern class's running eg Vets,Novice for the pre85 bikes.
The below track has had a few hair pins removed and now has some nice sweepers.
See you there. 8) Alison M

God speed mate those CR500 air hammers are pure evil.
-
Yep, reporting in now ;). Family settling in. Garage looks like a bomb hit it :o. The bikes are in there somewhere minus plastics (after what happened last move). Getting my act together and will be looking for a club and a ride soon. I will be riding my evo bikes in Pre 85 last place is the same whatever class I ride in ;D ;D
Also looking for somewhere to ride in my own time near Joondalup. I see heaps of bikes heading east, so there must be somewhere around here. The young bloke will be looking to learn soon too.
Any Ideas ?
-
Get in touch with Paul on the pre85mxwa site. I live south of the river, so don't really know where up there, they go for a ride, but would hazard a guess at the gnangarra pine plantation and the area around barbagello raceway
-
That's almost in my back yard. Thanks Tossa. Look forward to meeting all you guys soon.
Also on the look out for a sandblaster and powder coater for the 125 project.
I owe cyclegod a lot of beer, so looking forward to catching up with him too ;D

B&D Powdercoaters

Good job - have never had a problem with their work and they have some experience with the "old" stuff. In case you don't already know Wangara is only 10 minutes from Joondalup anyway.
Sandblaster to follow - just digging up his address :)
Rossco (Kinross)
-
there is a good sandblaster on Challenge Blvd in Wangara - not far from the powdercoaters actually. Can't find the name right now but he is next door to the Police vehicles repair shop ;D - opposite Luisini Rd
cheers
Rossco
-
Nice work Rossco. I actually know where Kinross is. I'm learning. If you are partial to a beer we may have to share one (or two) ;)
I was going to ask where Wandara was (wear the fox hat).
Thanks for the tips. I will use them and see what happens
Cheers
-
southside powdercoaters in O'Connor, cost me 180 for frame, fork legs and triple clamps. Oops forgot my son in law for sandblasting WS coating services in osborne Park
-
have a look at the VMXwa site, August a big month for pre75 with the annual Wandering event and the 15th anniversary (pre85 display at that one) the anniversary event includes a heap of internationals (2 day event) Both Rossco and myself will be ther, you'll fond rossco either changing his wardrobe or sat on a chair, never lasts more than two races!!lol
-
Don't have a pre75 ride, so I'll be in support class. Thanks for the tips. Catch you soon.
-
Hay Tossa,
Will you stop bagging out my number one gun rider. ;D When I get there Rossco will show me how he will whip your arse we will talking team tactics LOL You need to start pulling the line to become a fatboy racer, drink more ,put on some more weight and become a lazy barstard like me.
cheers
Fatboy (Boss) ;D,
-
Well two out of three ain't bad. Funny how there is only one person who stands up for Fatboy-Slim. I will have the obligatory carton of boags premium for your tasting on friday night!!! Oh, yeah for Rossco to give me a flogging he has to be on the track!!!

If luck is the dividend of sweat, we must be going to win everything. Currently here in SEQ it's raining and I'm still sweating-must be 110% humidity. It's raining as hard inside my shirt as it is outside.
It's only just March and we have already had two practise week-ends. We must been keen for something.
