Title: 250 bolt-up
Post by: Brian Watson on April 02, 2009, 04:06:34 pm
What gives with albrid??....imports a bike from the USA...tells all that he can't wait to race pre 65 and encourages others to do so...Now the bike is up on ebay?... ???

Here l am fellows, ask me any question, yes l have been doing it for years, when the vintage started l raced every meeting for years, secectary of clubs, president of clubs, buy bikes, sell bikes, find bikes for other poeple to buy and race or collect. So what is the problem.

OK here's my take on it.

So long as Dave doesn't rip anyone off, sell shit, not disclose obvious faults that are not shown in photos, misrepresent etc etc then I don't really see a problem with what he is doing.

A so called well respected? dealer sold me two bikes that I would have to say haven't been quite the way they were represented - now that is not what we want from people who frequent the forum. One of those bikes I intend to resell for what it owes me but I will disclose what the major fault is - it's called honesty. And NO - the 440 is NOT for sale - that was the better one!

For those of you nay-sayers out there try importing a bike and you will see that it is not cheap and not always straight forward so if someone else gets the pleasure of planting their arse on a rare old bike. Likewise to restore a bike to a good saleable standard takes lots of dollars and hours and hours of work, from the sourcing of bike, sourcing of parts, out sourcing of work and K's of driving about etc and that is before you have spun a spanner !!!

BTW - My definition of a good saleable standard doesn't mean a hasty application of rattle can straight over the original base paint, faults and all, nor failing to point out a TOTALLY flogged rear engine mount or a smashed R/H case from a spat chain!) I mean a well restored bike that I the sellers view will pass any test commensurate with the description given.

At least Dave might have got a few more guys to think about pre 65 ???

Who really cares if he doesn't want to be the one doing it - sounds like he's been there and done that - people are still allowed to change their mind last time looked.

And a week and a half is a long time in a housefly's life, lol!

My two bobs worth

Dave Mac  ;D

Thanks you Dave Mac, I will never ripe anybody off, that is not me. I prefer to talk with poeple by phone who are genuine about my items and l will talk through everything about the bike or part and go over every nut and bolt, l don`t have anything to hide.

By selling a bike it may help you at the present stage, it also helps that buyer to get involve within the sport and the class he want to ride in.

I don't think that rear brake hub is legal for pre 65, it's 160mm dia that came out on the 69 models, a 67 husky has a 140mm hub with bolt on rear sprocket

67 husky, So Paul if you are right, where can l find a 140mm huB, would like to see the difference between the two.

Hello David, Paul is not trying to find fault with your bike....he is offering you some advice..with that back wheel ..the bike is NOT eligible for pre '65.... :)

Sorry,  SO YOUR SAYING  MY REAR WHEEL IS NOT PRE65, BUT THE REST OF THE BIKE IS. OR
YOU ARE TRYING TO SAY THAT MY COMPLETE HUSQVARNA AS IT STANDS IS NOT ELIGIBLE TO BE RACED IN THE PRE 65 CLASS, WHERE IT STATES IN THE GCR THAT ALL 250 BOLT UP FRAME HUSQVARNA ARE ELIGIBLE.
IF YOU CHECK OUT THE BIKES IN VMX THEY TOO HAVE THE SAME REAR WHEEL AS MINE.

The 1967 hubs started out on the Silverpil model Huskys up to the end of 1967, the 68 hub was the same dia as the 67 but was modified with an improved bolt and nut mounting arrangement to attach the brake drum.

The new improved hub in 69 was a one piece casting with a 160mm brake drum which gave an increase in the swept area compared to the 140mm 67 and earlier hub. Some may say Husky brakes were poor at best, saying that i am sure there would be some increase in braking performance with the later hubs. These hubs were used up to 78-79, i think this performance increase, and the hub being from a later would not qualify the bike in pre 65, pre 70 would be the class it should run in. However if you changed the hub to a 67 it would be able to run in pre 65.

I think the best place to track down a 67 hub would be Vintage Husky.
I have also resent the photos of my 67 360 Viking to you.
Thanks Peter.

See this one for the right hub.

Dazzled by science eh Dave? ;) Nobody knows old Huskys better than Husky 67. Yammiefan also comes from a long time Husky background so it's really hard to pull a swifty when these blokes are watching.

l am not pulling a swifty, l bought the bike in face value, thinking that every nut and bolt is genuine,  and that people will say and do the right thing by you ,so stop trying to make me out to be doing duggy deals. l am sorry for not remembering our last contact peter., oldfart lets get one thing straight, l am not duggy ok. have you met me, most poeple know me on this forum.  and who are you.

I meant it as a generalisation mainly to show how knowledgable Husky 67 and Yammiefan are. You're not dodgy at all Dave.

Thank you, old phil, yes you are right, Those fellows sure know their husky, and that is good for the sport and to poeple who are not sure, l am sorry about being so touchy at the moment, l have out layed so much money on this bike and my pockets are empty, the freight cost  on the bike cost me over 3000 dollars.
