Yes he and others have gone on a bit of a break...
Have held a gun at his scone to return, too no avale. ;)
Maybe one day the others too will return.
I'm personally a bit disappointed that they left.
I thought they where stronger VMX people than that.
Might get a response now ...Hopefully. ;D
OZVMX its all we got in this wee country.
Long live the pre 75 movement  8)

??? ??? ??? ??? ??? ???You mean to say that Firko has got the shits with us :-[.

I noticed he's not around but I thought he a on a break as in having a holiday. I did notice one 'firko' posting with status of novice and one post :P.

eh don't let it be said that just because people aren't actively posting on the forum that their VMX interests and/or enthusiasm has diminished. On the contrary a little time away is a nice recharge and for me while it was only a week or so, during that time I had more VMX productivity time than I'd had in the previous month. I think a little time away now and isn't an entirely bad thing but yes, they are missed on the forum regardless ;)

Hi Alison
I Guess Firko is not DEAD,  otherwise we would have massive FIRKO Threadage.
Sounds like Doc and some of us need some confidence that this forum is moving fwd.   Most of the NSW guys will be at Lake Glenbawn right now.    There will be some very late posts on other stuff from Sydney guys.

no confidence needed  ;D
just would like to see it stay vmx -bit scary for myself included, to see the changes to the newer bikes coming onto the forum-which of course is inevitable.  ;D  I remember 3 years ago coming on here and showing and talking all modern bike and sidecar stuff and getting hounded big time.
I nearly never came back-still here-  :P  I have stayed on,and have learn't the way of the wise. 8)
As this forum has discussed many time before and will again no dought -some of us including myself find change a bit hard that's all.Just been in pre75 too long maybe. It doesn't matter where you are from its all still VMX.
Cheers Alison hoping this doesn't start another war  :-X

Alison, people (I) will continue to be endlessly passionate about the same bikes they (I) have always liked till they (I) fall off the (my) twig.
For me, the last interesting dirt bikes were produced in the late 1970s, and there is not even a flicker of interest in my heart for anything newer. Younger people however will tend to be nostalgic about bikes newer than that as they age and good luck to them, their time will come.
I guess I'm trying to say that while there is no drift within individuals preferences, but there must inevitably be a drift in the overall popularity of particular bike eras towards newer bikes as time passes.

umm Most of Them are back so there not many missing ?

FWIW  havnt you noticed the forum, no sledging, no anxiety, no back stabbing.  i kinda like it like this, so whoever is in here id like you to stay cause the balance is just right.

If whoever they is that is missing, do return, i hope they have had a nice break and keep the forum balance like it is.  its got a nice feel to it at the moment and not all that stress it was pumping out a while back.

Doors always open.

glad to hear he is still moving and shakin, feel the break will do him good, like Doc said , its amazing what you can do when your not sitting infront of the PC.  With all the extra time he should knock off a few long term projects, he has been working on.  half his luck,

And wish him well with his mum if you see him again from us all, he needs to spend his spare time with her, specially if she is having a hard time of it, you cant put them things on hold.  you gotta do it while you have the chance.

For the record , i miss Firkos and others contributions to the site :(
Firko is a very knowledgable bloke who unlike at lot of us (who are half a generation younger ) actually participated in the golden years of motocross.

He has great knowledge of the sport and has always been happy to share it with others  :)

Hopefully Firko will return to the forum soon  :)
Title: Re: firko

The biggest let down is that Firko let the wankers get under his skin. I and a hell of a lot of other forum members totally agreed with him over the slipping standards of the forum, the difference is that he said openly what he and many others were only thinking which left him out on a limb with little support.  Whether you agree with him or not, his posts often inspired great debate and even if you were totally in opposition to his opinions, it was hard to deny that they were well thought out and articulate.

Even though his immence knowledge and unique ability to convey that knowledge in a clear and entertaining manner appear to be lost to the forum for the time being, his actions have had some positive results.
* The spelling, grammar and comprehension of Freakys posts have improved 100%.
* The banal and childish in joke exchanges that contributed diddley squat to the quality of the forum have thankfully disappeared.

Like Oldschool and some other forum members I've known Firko since our first go as racers back in the early 70s and I've never met a bloke with so much passion for old dirt bikes. He has no bias against any brands and never got involved in those childish criticisms of other peoples favourite bikes(Maicos/Hondas/Yamahas/Suzukis etc are crap, type of stuff), he hates that bullshite. To him all old bikes deserve a bit of love as a trip through his collection would attest.  He's seriously getting stuck into his hot rod bikes for CD6 and the Nats and I guarantee that you'll be blown away by all of them, and one bike in particular come the Queens Birthday weekend at Conondale. If his fitness improvements continue, we may even see him having a ride, who knows!

Of course the riding of motocross bikes made over thirty years ago on modern tracks, the spending of vast amounts of money and time on them and the posibility of losing one's job and income from injury from such activities are obviously the signs of a mature and stable adult.  :D

Apparently there was a council clean up on around the hills district, and Firko saw a spoked wheel sticking out of a pile of crap as he drove by, needless to say the inquisitive nature of Firko got the better of him and he stopped and found it was attached to an electric scooter (which I am now fixing for him). The owner appeared and stated if it doesn’t work I am throwing it out, as he pushed the TM onto the pile. Firko asked about the bike and the owner said he found them both under the house when he bought it quite a few years ago, and didn’t want or need them, both have spark and good compression.
Drive around with your eyes open ;) ;) ;)

You see. I thought that this was the stuff that "the Good Ol' Boys" were happy to see the end of.
You know. Jumping into a thread, telling everyone there that it was crap and then cracking the shits when they were told to piss off.
Well, well........

I may be simplifying the situation here but why would you bother going to the trouble and expense to convert the '83 top end to the earlier engine when in reality very few of us are man enough to ride a stock 490 Maico to its performance potential.
With respect, to me all of this is just overkill "my Maicos tricker than yours" wanking. I also suspect that by fitting the '83 cylinder to an 81 490, youre making the bike ilegal for Evo.

Respect is a two-way street.... ;)

I have said hello to him a couple of times now but that's about all, but when when he posts i hang on his every word. Same as if he has something to say at a gathering of like minded people. Hope to catch up mate at the next gathering and maybe get to know you better. Man love? If it gets cold enough!

I'm at a loss for words... You're saying that you totally agreed with him, and yet you were happy to let him cop all the flack?

Or have I misunderstood?

For the record, its well known that Firko and I disagreed on plenty of stuff. But I think that his absence from the forums is a genuine loss and a shame - just as Tony's and Doc's absences are/were.
I look foward to catching up with all of them at various times throughout the year.

Yep, I'm guilty of that.

I like to look in this site for enjoyment, sharing thoughts with like minded people.
But from watching I have seen that it's not worth getting involved with some of the shit fights that go on.
North going Zacs meet South going Zacs,  no one quits till they have had the last word.

And I don't know who I'm reading on here lately.
Chrome shopping trolleys?? 9 posts & you butt in like youv'e been on here for years >:(

I don't mind if you want to stay anonymous but creating virtual personalities & hiding behind a secret alias so you can bag people isn't cool.

& where did @ come from??  200 plus posts out of nowhwere??

I can see why Firko won't be coming back, mention of him finding some bikes brings out all sorts of jealosy, the same sort of shit he copped when he was here making the posts.

I didn't always agree with Firko but his posts were always worth reading & I think it's the forums loss

Where are they now...Tony T, Eno, Yamaboy, all MIA

Firko asked me to post the following:
At first I thought this thread was going to turn into yet another shitsling but thankfully, I was very wrong. I'm gobsmacked by the support and kindness from you folks have shown since I had my little protest retirement. I'm honestly humbled by it all. I was starting to believe that Red Ross and Freakshow were right and that I was turning into one of those cantankerous old blowhards waffling on about the 'olden days' and boring everyone shitless with my opinions. This thread has shown that my rantings must have achieved some good on the forum. I also understand that there are some who don't like me (or the "good old boys" it seems) but I'm a big old boy and can handle their rejection. The number of PMs I recieved supporting my stance however proves to me that I wasn't alone. I was just the stupid one to say it out aloud and I copped the expected barage from the expected sources.

The heart and soul of this forum is the amazing treasure chest of tech information and history that have come forth that has helped us become that little bit more knowledgable. The forum has also opened up our minds to bikes and people we've never previously known and allowed us to open new friendships with folks who share the same passion. I have become enriched by the experience and I hope that my rantings have entertained and informed you as well.

As my dear "good old boys" have aluded to, I've got a few things going at once right now. My 90 year old mum is suffering some health issues and I've taken on the job as her carer. It's a big job but I'm sure any son would do the same for his mum. It's something we have to do. In between I'm putting in some shed action to get the new bikes up and running for CD6. We were going to attend the Honda Bonanza but Mum, the economy downturn, my trip to Adelaide this weekend for the Clipsal V8 race and the fact that none of the bikes will be ready have caused us to can the Bonanza trip. For the moment I'll stay away from contributing to the forum and concentrate all of my efforts into the jobs at hand and to avoid the temptation of entering into yet another tedious slanging match with the forces of inanity.

Thank you all so much for the kind words, they've boosted my self esteem to new levels and have renewed my belief that the good guys (and gals) on the forum far outweigh the wankers. I hope to share a yarn and a beer with all of you at CD6 and Conondale and Raymond Terrace Nats.

Wow, let’s all hold hands and sing Kumbaya.

Love your work Firk.

More importantly I love your backbone. The world is far too full of invertebrates... many of whom cross dress on this forum.

Would have loved to "share the blame" with you this past weekend for a quiet shanty. Wait till some of the pictures come out... for once Magoo and Rossco made me look angelic.

However, I am apparently on double secret probation with Dennis.

This thread is just getting way too weird for me, were all taking in the 3rd person, to a 3rd person, for a third person, then directly to a member who apparently isnt here, but yet seems to be completely up to date word for word on the thread (or Firks are you coming in as a guest for your VMX fix)  then folks are claiming they have sinned and need confession and go onto align them selves after the fact, like some stolen generation or talking bout your ex you never married.

FWIW, GMC Ghost or double accounts were were first practiced by certain shock freinds answering there own questions and slagging off, that practice moved onto others who saw the thrill of the Annonimity. thankfully it has died off and i havent seen it run at the levels it was 2 months ago, and they have all settled down and got back to there main accounts.

Though Im not sure why this post is getting legs again, From what i remember Firko took a break on perfectly sound and happy grounds, so im not sure PM's and backroom discussions need to be aired here, as to what may have happend or what should have happend its all conjecture and negative vibing again.

HE needed the break, its doing him good and hell be back.   Let it go.

The universe is in balance .   Your everything will be back to normal in its own time.

This thread is now moving onto just stir old pots, and it should be locked.

And don't you bring me into your troubled world oh Evil one, I was quietly tucked up in bed with my Teddy when you and that Rossco chap behaved in an appalling manner on the weekend

I left that part out of Firkos post. He wanted it to be the wind up but I left that bit out when I transposed it.   Let's move on, I'm sure everyone can share the love over a margarita and a beer with the slowly shrinking big guy in the Kevlar Kompound at the upcoming big ones.
Ji Gantors amply supplying our tecno education, Mick De is filling the Maico shoes better than most, and Freakys learned how to spell and articulate. The balance is back. I'll now crawl back into Good 'Ol Boy HQ and leave you alone.
