If you are only going to buy one tool this year then I suggest a collet slide hammer bearing puller.
These great little tools remove wheel bearings, some swingarm bearings and steering head bearings.
They are not to dear but like most good tools will be a handy addition to your tool box and make replacing wheel bearings every year something to look forward to.

I've got the exact same kit. Worth it's weight in gold.
I wish the derro's who had my parts bike before me had one of these sets. Every bearing, every collar, every bush had been chiselled out with a screwdriver or whatever was at hand. As a result pretty much every adjacent surface ie swingarm pivot area, was completely stuffed. Hence a restorable bike became a parts bike.
-
phill irving used to call 'derros' "john clot the previous owner."
-
Yes I agree,
That tool is worth its weight in gold.
All the bikes I have purchased so far have had similar maintenance regimes as your parts bike mainline.

And not to mention Engine bearings . Bit the bullet last year and bought same item as shown.
Next on the wish list is a LATHE ;)
-
Yep a lathe is a pretty handy thing.
It is more handy than a mill as a lathe can be set up as a mill if required.
(I am not saying that a mill is no good I am just saying if you only got room for one or the other I would pick a lathe).

These things keep poping up on eBay and look like the ducks nuts (can we still say that?). They seem to go for about $800.00 at auction each time. I'll get me one soon (Don't know one end of it from the other so it'll probably end up as a nice bike stand.... :-\).http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&item=260376155323

the same manufacturer thats makes those bearing puller kits (its all made in Taiwan) makes many other pretty good bike tools aswell. i have their compression tester kit and the right angle geared screw driver which really comes in handy when you need to get into tight spots and remove float bowls on 4 cylinder engines when you dont want to take the whole bank off. MCS is the importer so just drop into your local bike shop and ask to have a look at the tools section in their MCS book. ;)

20mm spindle bore might be too small plus motor might be on the lite side of things .
-
did you see the big one they have for just under $3000

I've got a CQ6125 - ie a 22"x10" and it's perfect for my little garage. $1700 dumped in my driveway.
-
Hey my surname is derrick.....is that a misspelt derro? :o

When we start out buying tools like a lathe we think to our selves all I need to do is to be able to pay for it. Then when you get your shiny new lathe you discover that the buying is not over. I need cutting tools, TC bits, drill heads, centre drill bits, a knurling tool, a parting tool, live centres, steadies............
The tooling is nearly worth the same money as the lathe.
But I guess we just need that lathe and every thing will be fine.

What is this mysterious tool :-\. The picture is long gone. Want to post up a picture of yours ??
Having a few "issues" ::) with the blind bearings in the 125 gearbox. Before you come back with some smart arse reply they are the ones you can't get behind to knock 'em out ;)
Others also welcome to chime in ;D ;D
-
Are you referring to a bearing puller like this.

-
Not sure stew - been doing some research in the meantime and that kit looks like to go. Some pretty expensive ones out there, but found on on eBay for $130. Probably worth that in swearing and angst ;D ;D
-
Where did you get that one Stewart I had one stuck in way to hard last week and I had to weld a bolt to it to tap it out from the other side I need a kit like that. ;)
-
These kits can be sourced locally through MCS via your favourite bike shop. I have a set at the shop and they work well and have proven to be robust.
-
How much are they Can am ??
-
I bought it out of shear frustration a few years ago From BSC bearings.
Frosty, she is a Toledo brand Kit # 246300 Puller sizes 8-10- 12-15-17 -20 -25-30
12-15 & 17 are the most frequently used out of my kit pulling Pe motors apart ;)of which # 17 pulls that pesky bearing next to clutch actuator shaft.
-
Thanks Stewart, bought a Toledo set and a book on bathurst gtho falcons, thanks Michael. ;)
-
You can get the MCS stuff here http://www.mcsonline.com.au/ well you can see it here but you need to get it from a dealer. I have a fair few of their workshop tools. The right handle screwdriver is very handy.

Will have to check Monday.
-
That would be good thanks. Otherwise it's eBay ;)
-
Ballards sell them to ,I got one a couple years back ,good tool saves the nuckles
-
go the Toledo brand if you can, they're worth it. I think I paid $130 or similar for the same kit as Stu posted up. Shop around though the other local bearing shop was $70 more expensive
-
Looks like it to me ??

Warm your cases in the oven - the bearings will fall out.
-
Tried that. it no workies :-\ All the others came out easily with a gentle tap, the blind ones not so.
-
Bloke came into the hire shop last week wanting to hire a pantek.
He complained when told that the first 100k was free then 30 cents a k .
Said he was told that it was $30 a hundred k. ::)
Then he wanted to know how much fuel he would use driving to where he was going and back. ???
He,s gotta make TOOL of the week easy.
If I appear insane then I rekon I have a gooood reason. :)

Yep, hasn't failed yet.
Use an oven or oxy and they will fall out under thier own weight.
Thin wall needle rollers don't have enough weight to fall out so you will need to hook behind them to pull them out.
The bearings often fall out of the cases while I am welding them.
-
My mig is a good bearing remover completly stuffed bearing run a line of weld and bingo bearing falls out better on tapered bearing cups stuckfast but can be made to work on ball races as well as long as ball are out and centre out just a line in ball groove and out they drop.
