I bought this bike from Ozvmx forum member Col in November 2007.
Just thought Id post up a progress pic, should be complete in the next couple of weeks.
I had one brand new in 1980, (I left school at 14 and got a job working in a wire factory to buy it !)
Still trying to locate a DG Pro-Flow scoop for it.
Thanks to Michael Hughes from Bendigo Dirt Bikes for his help.
If anyone is thinking of getting a Clarke fuel tank I can highly recommend them.

looking pretty bloody swish!
-
Geez looks brand new nice weapon shame to get it dirty ;D Its in the right place in the dinning room must have a :) good missus
-
Thanks Guys
The finish is probably better than brand new, it definitely wont be getting dirty, unless a dust storm blows through the rumpus room !

Very nice Kev. I bought one new from Hollywood Motors in Liverpool- I was working across the road at Chatsworth M/C Accessories at the time. I remember a H/P interest rate from hell too!!. I have one again now that I have raced since about 97. I am planning to do my version of an RH style resto on it this year some time. Just need to get the 'Tony D" front guard and it is ready to go. That bike has been as reliable as an elbow and I love the look of them. Cheers.
-
very nice build on this one. attention to detail is fantastic
-
where did you get the rear fender?

"where did you get the rear fender?"
I have about 20 NOS RM250 rear fenders sitting in my shed.......
Only joking, I wish it was a NOS rear fender
It's actually from Vintage Suzuki.
The bike has NOS front mudguard, front number plate, and side panels.
Clarke fuel tank and Vintage Suzuki rear fender
I would happily pay a lot of money for a NOS rear fender...

Since when did mudguards become "fenders" :-[

Since when did mudguards become "fenders" :-[
Since the yanks claimed they invented "moto-x"
-
Sweet resto - too good to ride !!!
Eye candy - like a Rickman Honda 750 I saw in a guys lounge room a few weeks back
Enjoy the memories - are you doing one to race / ride / play ?
Dave Mac :D

Since when did mudguards become "fenders" :-[
'bout the same time as "stickers" became "Decals" and they stopped putting betroot on hamburgers. ;)
-
This bike looks amazing, top job.
Were all the engine and gearbox internals rebuilt too?
On beetroot on hamburgers: Americans i met on my travels could not fathom the idea. I urged them to give it a try, but that was after i made them try Vegemite, so they probably never did.
Can't wait to see this bike finished.

Got any before pics? Its like an extreme make over on the telly, starts out as a fat toothless crack whore and 6 months later looks like a super model...
-
Thats one very nice looking bike, Brings back the memory's.
Cheers Mick.
-
Still not finished, although I have all the parts to finish it, just being held up waiting on swing arm bearings and steering head set bearings.
Very frustrating...
-
If you are using a all balls kit at steering head, it will not fit with out mods
-
it's from Pyramid parts, and it did not fit ! They are sending me a replacement bottom bearing.
anyone had any experience with these ????
-
same problem also ....Pyramid bottom bearing was wrong size . Ended up sending kit back - along with fork seals that only came with single lip ::)
-
Top bike kev checkout its OLDER brother...
Brett
-
almost there just waiting on a few bits and bobs...

-
thats a nice bike kev 8)
mmmmm excellent restoration :P
looks too good to ride :P
nice to see a nice vmx bike on forum :o ;D
-
Beautiful resto mate,a credit to you 8)
-
Kev do you need the stickers that go on the shock reservoirs? i think i might have the correct ones. i will compare the ones i have against an original one i still have. Also the Takasago rim stickers are available from reproductiondecals.com and there would have been a warning decal on the rear fender ans 20 to 1 premix sticker on the tank.
-
That's come up looking awesome. Brings back memories of the day i wheeled a new one out of the local Suzuki shop. :)
-
wow!
-
not my favourite model Zook -I liked the Z - but bloody hell - nice job there! Could almost be converted!
-
Kev, where did you get the handlebars from??
-
Very noice. :) Wish I had that amount of patience.... :-X
-
Beautiful resto, well done 8). The color match between the Clarke tank and the rest off the plastics looks spot on.

I got the handlebar NOS through LWC82PE, a friend of his had them.
They have since been repainted

To be honest the colour match for the tank-sidepanels-front mudguard is pretty much perfect.
But, the rear mudguard (supplied by Vintage Suzuki) whilst a very good quality part is not a perfect match with the rest of the plastics.
I cannot locate a NOS rear guard for love or money.
The bike has now had new tank stickers as i wasnt happy with the ones shown in the pics here, as well it now has a set of Fox Airshox.
It is definitely an office queen and has not had the engine started.
Thanks for the feedback guys
-
That is simply gorgeous, I see no expense has been spared on that machine. I would love one of those myself. 8)
-
I don't know why I haven't already commented..very very nice ;)
-
Yep fantastic resto.
How did you get the finish on the swingarm?
-
Bloody nice job!! wish miine was that clean,, oh well.
-
Yeah thats right, i remember those handlebars. They came from 'suzuki 400' on here and from memory he got them either off ebay or a dealer in NZ. I got NOS PE bars but they are a little higher. Im not sure what else is close to RM bars but i can tell you XT500 bars which are still available are very close to PE bars. They are chrome so you need to paint them champagne gold though.
-
Better pic here, but this is still an old pic, before the tank stickers were redone.
The bike also has a nos rear sprocket now as well.

Is pyramid in sydney also as i just received some fork boots for my yz from Nz and now see that there isalso an Aust Pyramid on ebay.
Cheers Brett

Being such a big world wide business that Pyramid Parts are....its time consuming to get items returned and claims to be sorted.
Registered Mail could of shortened the time perhaps.
cheers
-
Yep, i have given up on the return, i will just wear the wrong part, but i did leave bad feedback - which i have never done before
Brett
-
Well done Kev. Top work there.
Please tell us when the engine fires a sound... :o telllll us you're gunna start 'er up someday... :)
How appropriate the wall banner is about "Happiness" ... Great job. ;D

Very nice bike though!
-
Very nice resto Kev lotta love gone into it clearly. Just for the record I bought some new tapered steering bearings from Pyramid for my MX Yamaha and guess what, they didn't fit either. What a pain in the arse!
