i live pretty much in the suburbs but today with fires all around us and house's on fire a street away it's pretty scary . i hope everyone survived today with much of South Oz on fire it's time for you Queenslander's to share the rain .
-
Happy to do so we've had about a metre in the last week. Local flooding etc, but nothing like Ingham which is only a bit over an hour away.
Take care mate. Best wishes to all those struggling with the heat - hopefully you are all clear of the fires :o :o.
-
Thanks Tony well the fire is under control now but there is a lot of damage and it only started as a grass fire but spread quickly to the housing estate's .
-
What a shit of a week, production has suffered, despite the insulation & aircon in the workshop.
Like many of you I've been hiding indoors looking on here today but mainly watching the fire sites, we have a bad one just south of us & heading away, some of my family have had to leave their homes, now it seems the wind is changing, we're surrounded by smoke but don't really know whats in store for us. :o
I pity the firemen (& women) they shouldn't need to fight fires on days like this.
-
I really feel for these people and fire fighting folk. :(
We live in the forest and the day it gets over 40 blown an easterly and I smell smoke, I'll be taken the hard drive, pets and gone.
Pump and hose isn't gonna stop hell on earth, the bomber will try there best of course.
We love the isolation and life style but it can have its draw backs, especially with weather/fire like you are experiencing.
best wish's to all... stay safe.
-
Today was that hell on earth day lucky for the wind change or nuthin would have stopped it here .Good luck GMC.
-
Hi All,
Just a quick note to anyone you may know who has entered for the Club Champs at Blue Rock tomorrow, please let them know it has definately been cancelled due to the fires. The Secretary & her family have the fire licking at their back fence & are currently still fighting the fires as we speak. Fingers crossed that all will remain safe.

there is no punishment on earth that can be given too these evil people who light fires.
-
My mate had one of the fires get within 200m of his house, but the wind change and other people saved his and others houses, but sadly many houses just near are all gone, i heard there is fires near Steves place Kinglake area and not far north of him, were the Castella Vinduro was held, best wishes to you Steve and family i hope it stays away from you.
As for the scum-scums? that lit some of these fires, my words for you are not fit for a Public forum.
Mick.

Tim 754 is in the bush fire volunteers/brigade, so he could of been called in,which puts him anywhere in Vic.
alison
-
Tim's part of the world hasn't come up in any of the reports I've seen.
Having been in Chapman on the day of the Canberra bush fires, I really do feel for the people this affects. Its forking incredible, and its forking awful.
-
bless ya Tim ,we was worried :-*
-
Thanks for your concerns .I do not live near any fire area at present. I live on the flat plains farmland of north central Vic I am not now permitted front line duties fire fighting duties, being in a communications role. GMC is in the thick of hell hope your safe friends. Yours Tim754
-
It all sounds bloody horrible. I was in Canberra during the fires just as Nathan was so I know what it's like. Our thoughts and prayers are with all those in the area. Hope GMC is OK!!
-
Wathching footage being streamed on ABC this morning, worst fires in Vic history they are saying.I hope conditions change for the better today enough lives and homes have been lost. Our thoughts are with you guys from the south.
-
Fire gives me the heebie jeebies. Best of luck everyone.
-
Waking up this morning to here the news of now 25 dead, with the possiblity of more, it certainly is a damn tragedy. I pray that some of the Viper Members that live in the Kinglake area and any other members who are within these bushfire affected areas are safe & well. Hats off to the CFA, volunteers & all relevant departments under these difficult circumstances.
Mrs Maico #54
-
Geez that's not good. That's a lot of relatives mourning.Yep hat's off (and wallets open) to the CFA.

Just heard the beatiful little hamlet of marysville is gone.
i really used to enjoy going there for a ride in the bush or a drive in the car.
-
far out, just heard that there is fire bug that is re lighting areas where fires have been already put out >:( i hope they are caught and delt with in a severe way instead of the usual slap on the wrist!
-
Just been watching sky news.My sympathies to all those affected in VIC.
Cheers from Craig Taylor & Family Auckland NZ
-
Also from my side, as fellow Aussie watching from outside, it is heart breaking, good luck to all..... you take care.
-
has anyone heard from GMC yet if he is OK?
are any of our other members in the danger area?
it certainly looked very bad on the news tonight
-
GMC hasn't been on here since Saturday 7.47pm.
I have just watched the 6 pm news,no words can describe the fury of it all.
our heart felt symmpathy

-
Just looked at the map and GMC lives pretty close to the worst of the fires. There hasn't been much on here from any of our Victorian members. Watching the news and it's worse than I ever imagined, I can't believe the devastation...
-
Just finished watching the news and it's all bad isn't it?
There were fires around Kilmore, which of course is where we stayed when we organised CD4.
On the news, they mentioned that if things got bad again, Broadford and Yea could come under threat. But at this stage it looks like they have been spared, so hopefullly GMC is OK.

I had a friend who lived at lorne victoria the day the ash wednesday fires disstroyed the coastline this home was lost plus his 500 manx norton was mounting like a candle, it was devastating, we moved from Healesville area about 3 years, the place is a lovely area and so was marysville, their was a motor museum at marysville and l would say its all gone too. my heart goes out to all.
-
yes i believe that motor museum will be gone too in marysville, it was a private collection and had a VERY rare horse drawn gypsy coach from 1890 or so plus a heap of bikes and cars. there is no way it would have been saved due to the alert came approx 8pm last night.
people lost there lives just trying to drive out of town.
i also fear a mate property has been razed, he and family are safe in Melbourne but his shed & equipment probably went up, he won't know till early this week when he can inspect, roads are blocked.
-
Our friend BigK is a resident in Bendigo fire area, I have not been able to contact him. Peter Schoene (Bultaco Parts) has lost before to wild fire he now lives at Toongabbie again unable to contact. Tim Believe I have lost a mate of 45 years in Kinglake West hope he is about but his home has been confirmed razed and the ruins has been police taped off.
Crazy part my brother lives in rain drenched ,flooding Townsville area Far North Queensland.
-
This is unbeleivable :o :o Has any body at all heard from GMC ?
-
FAr out.. this is outrages.. now the death toll is upto 84.. I work with 5 guys with familys from king lake, fingers crossed. :'(
-
My friend has been found laying with his two beloved horses, most likely was doing his utmost to calm them. It would have been quick in that hell.
I see BigK last posted at 9.03 Today that is good!
-
Damn, Tim.
Awful news - offering my condolences seems so weak, no matter how genuinely they're offered.
On the Volvo forum, one of the blokes has just discovered that the 16yo bloke who died with his younger sister was a friend of him/his missus.
Anyone know Geoff well enough to call him? Probably won't get through, but would be worth a try, surely?
NB: I don't think it would be a great idea to have half the forum ringing.
Spoke to an internet support bloke from Bendigo today - he was fine, but his brother's place was in real trouble/had been burned (he didn't go into details, I didn't ask).
After that conversation, I spent that arvo pushing the lawn mower around...
-
one of our mates was fighting the fire in narbethong trying to save his house a couple of our little bikes were there that doesnt matter atleast he is save. He was running around putting out spot fires but it was getting out of control and the paddock across the road exploded in to flames and next doors lpg bottle exploded but a friend of his who worked in the fire tower rang him and said if you dont get out now in 30 seconds you wont get out so he only got his canary and cat and jumped in his car and raced down the black spur to healesville he is still very lucky he got out but i know he would have lost irraplaceable possesions his grandfathers war medals pictures of his dad so much there were so many bikes there too it doesnt matter about them he is ok but i know it would be dissapointing to lose them there was his brothers BSA B44 honda tl 125 and tl 250 honda sl70 his concourse 82 honda xl250 my honda minitrail but i and all others arent worried about any material goods it is his life and the centimental things that matter he hasnt seen his house yet but we all expect it is not there the houses around these areas are very old and its a wonderful place to visit it is a shame some of the 100 year old buildings have burnt down but as i say nothing is more important to any one than their own and their families and friends lifes i hope everyone is ok it is exteremley sad that people have lost their lifes we all are worried for people in the surronding areas it is a shame we have these firebugs as it seems most have been deliberatly lit i cant understand what sort of person could do such a thing i hope everyone is ok it is extremely sadning to hear people have lost their lifes
-
Nothing puts the relative value of people and possessions into focus like this sort of disaster.
-
i give my condolences to any one who has lost family or mates in these fires its a real shame to have thing like this happen to innocent people :-\

Dad stuck in floods, mum caught up in fires

Vic truckie describes journey through fire, then Qld floods (ABC News) Audio: Flood-stranded truckie speaks about fears for fire-ravaged Vic family (ABC News) One Victorian family is enduring all of the weather extremes gripping eastern Australia.
The worst flood in 30 years has seen interstate truck driver Kevin DeVries stranded for five days at Rollingstone, near Ingham, in north Queensland.
"I've come up from Victoria, I left in 49 degree heat," he said.
"I got to the border, the road is melting before me ... tar is splashing up on my truck.
"I get into New South Wales, I go through fires, and I come through Queensland and listen to this rain - unbelievable - I've never seen anything like it.
"[In] New South Wales I was getting stopped for grass fires, before the big fires kicked in.
"Come up here [Qld] and been stopped twice for the floods and now I'm locked in and I can't come home."
Evacuation
Meanwhile, Mr DeVries's wife and three children have been caught up in the Victorian fires.
His family was forced to flee their home at Narre Warren in Melbourne's south-east yesterday when the inferno claimed around six houses in their street.
Mr DeVries has two daughters aged 17 and 11 and his son is 17.
"It was a little bit frantic yesterday - a father's instinct, or a husband's instinct is to protect protect their family and [I'm] just helpless," he said.
"It's a tough situation there for a while but we've got some good family and friends down there and we got them out."
He says his wife was frantic.
" talked the wife through it, she was in a bit of a panic mode," he said.
"They wouldn't let her in the blockade to get the two girls out of the house - she was at work you see.
"Everything's okay - I think she's [my wife] more concerned about me now."
He says he is quite proud of his son trying to help save his neighbour's house.
"My oldest boy's friend - his house got lost," he said.
"He was actually bucketing water out of next door neighbour's swimming pool trying to help fight the fire."
-
I havent been on the forum for a while but it puts things into reality when forum members home areas are mentioned in the news reports.
My wishes are with them at this time, its comparable to having concerns for family or mates even though
I have never met them.
-
I'm not normally lost for words but this time I am - this is terrible and all we can hope is the bad news is going to end and our friends are safe.
As for the arsonists - simple solution - a wooden gallows and piano wire. They are f...... vermin scum !!!
My job as a firey up in Sydney often takes me to single houses, factories, schools, cars etc destroyed by fire but whole towns and communities ? nah - just can't comprehend it at all - this is BAD.
When the appeals kick in dig deep guys - those of us that can are just soooooooo lucky !!!

I am at a loss for words..... losing your mates before their time is the worst.

This is an awful tragedy. I've heard this morning that an old family friends daughter and son in law are missing in the King Lake area. I'm not close to this family by any stretch but I still find myself overcome with sadness as I write this.
Has anyone heard from Geoff Morris? How is the Broadford area as a whole?
My heart goes out those who are personally affected or have family and loved ones impacted by this tragedy. This might be the most wonderful country in the world but it still comes back to bite us every now and then.

This number for GMC just keeps ringing, maybe someelse closer can try it. :)

Mr Maico just called to say, he has spoken with Keith Stacker & Paul & his family were able to get out of King Lake in time & all are safe, not sure if his house is gone tho. Its a time of worry & fear at the moment, as the toll continues to climb, its heart breaking.
Mrs Maico #54

keith told me today that his house is ok but the shed s and all the trees around etc coped it

My deepest condolences to anyone who has lost someone, or knows of people lost, in these atrocious fires.
I live in 20 acres of bush but I am surrounded by thousands of acres of it and have had 2 close calls.
The first I packed up the wife and kids and sent them to my mother's in Ballarat.
The fire came within a half a kilometre which may seem like it is nowhere near but I was on the roof with a mate hosing amidst the flying embers and could hear the roar of the fire like it was across the road. A fortunate wind change probably saved us. The second didnt get within about 4 km's of me but what did happen was about a dozen Rovers members turned up to help me prepare and evacuate belongings.
Maybe they were just protecting the place we celebrate Boxing Day every year but the support was phenominal. My wife was blown away by people she didn't know rushing to help a mate in need.
That is about the only good that will come from this disaster, apart from the suvivors of course, the way Aussies will band together to help out each other.
I have been lucky.
Neale

Its been a very tragic time for all. To the Viper clan, has anyone herd from Ray Stevens as he lives in king lake. Hope he and his family are safe. I think the Dodds live king lake as well?

Good news update, my friends daughter and family got out OK but apparently lost their house, cars and one of their dogs. One of the cars was an almost finished Cobra replica that he'd pumped a motza into. In the end though its nothing compared to their lives. You can always build another car but family are irreplacable.
-
That's good news Firko !
Let's hope there are many more tales like that to follow eh !!! I have no desire to hear more bad stuff but if that is the worst we are exposed to then so be it - those poor souls in Vic are living it and it must be hell !!!

i got an email today from MA Victoria to say the State Motorcycle complex at Broadford was unaffected and the Army are using it as a base while doing clean up etc.
i can only assume that GMC's place is safe as he is a Km or 2 away.
-
I have just spoken to Geoff GMC and he is fine they have no power,so not too much can be done at work and home.
cheers Alison
-
I just spoke to Peter ( Drakie ) Drakeford and he tells me that Steve and his family at Castella were the Vinduro was held are all safe, Drakie tells me that all the bush around his property was burnt but house saved and for those that were there would remember the hut they had there has been burnt down, but everything else is ok this is good news to here,,,,Drakie also tells me that Paul Stacker is safe.

Thanks for the concern guys. Fire was mostly heading south from us but a wind change brought it closer, it stopped about 2-3 k's from the track, about 6-7 from us. have been without power since my last post, no one knows when it will be back on. A minor inconvenience compared to many. Am in the local library at the moment, have a town meeting in a few minutes.
My sister & husband are at Heathcote Junction & had to leave, still arn't allowed back in. A nephew lives in Wanding & stayed, he's feeding everones animals but if he leaves they won't let him back in.
Another Nephew lives in Kinglake West, he was stuck in Melb. while his wife & 4 kids had to survive by themselves.
By some miracle all family & houses are okay but have devastation all around them. Their gods smiled upon them.
I believe it started in a local pine plantation where a few have been lit before, hope they catch the turd.
I would like to parcachute them into the fire..... without a parachute.
Still a lot of shit going on around us but we should be fine.
Cheers, Geoff
-
Glad all is well Geoff.
Hope to See you at viper this year riding, if you don't have a bike ready, there is a CR250 here for you.
-
I would like to parcachute them into the fire..... without a parachute.
Nah, give them a parachute; let them enjoy the view on the way down and the time to reflect on there firey demise ;) :P.
-
Some great news coming in there, good stuff. Tell you what, $950 wouldn't affect my life in any way, the Govt should stop wasting their time and money on the supposed bail-out package, and say If you're working, you don't get the package.... and spend the money getting these poor bastards back on their feet. Bloody hell, this could be any of us, or our rellies. Thoughts are with our friends in Vic. :(
-
Glad to hear you are OK GMC.
I had exactly that thought about the "bail out". Instead of hand-outs why don't they help these poor buggers rebuild their communities. There are a lot of houses and lives that could do with some major help.
-

Yeah, you and me both. I wrote this somewhere else on the forum and it applies even more given the events of the past few days:
Arsonists. F*ckin' Arsonists!
When caught a mandatory 24 hour shift helping in the burns unit of a major Hospital should preceed their impaling and slow roast over a BBQ pit. Then they can return to the burns unit with a genuine reason to be there - the c*nts.
Just wait 'til I become Prime Minister!
Seriously, no mercy to these pricks!
Tattoo their crime on their foreheads and drop 'em back into the affected communities!
-
Words fail me after watching some of the footage and hearing the stories.
As for those responsible - a small piece of lead behind the ear and be done with it.
-
Gidday yzhilly,,,Thinking of you and your family stay safe. Hope to catch up soon,, From Sue
-
Thanks Sue we are fine and when i posted this thread i had no idea of the devastion that had happened outside of my own area . I hope that no else gets hurt and we can get these fire's under control . What has happened has been a unbelievable tragedy . I'm lost for words and feel numb lets just dig in and give them a hand .
-

I am sure I speak for most Australians here that this whole tragedy has made me feel so down. I don't know if it's because my job has made me see so much shit in 23 years and it's coming back or what but this keeps getting worse.
Right now I am on holidays and up till now have been getting lots done but yesterday I moped around and eventually turned the radio off - just too much bad news. Drowned out my thoughts with the Angels !!!
Woke up this morning to a death toll exceeding 170 and climbing so today won't feel any better.
If I was one of the arsonists responsible for the carnage the c..... have caused I'd go find a tree and string myself up before they get caught - they won't be safe anywhere they go for a long long time and I don't give a shit if they are 16 or 60 - hang em !!!!
Ted and others have brought home to us that these events are real and touch lives of everyone.
For those of you still waiting for news I pray that it will be good not bad.

I saw on the TV this morning that the Eaglehawk area near Bendigo had been affected by the bushfire on the weekend. Does anyone have any news on the Clarke family? I figure that Brian and Bev would be fairly safe in town but the boys live in outlying areas I believe so I hope all is well with one of Australias great motocross families.
-
My deepest condolences to anyone who has lost family or friends in these terrible fires . With a lot of debate about whether to stay to fight fires & try to protect your house , or to flee , I have to ask why houses in bushfire prone areas aren't built with an underground celler / bunker with insulated fireproof doors for emergency situations ? Houses in the USA that are in tornado affected areas , have these type of shelters to retreat to until the danger has passed .
-

With Royal commissions etc., all will be revealed as time passes, but I think some, if not many, houses that were lost, and lives inside them, were built or modified to the CSIRO's recommendations with independent power, water and pumping, and sprinklers on the roof etc. This was an exceptional fire.
My thinking is that in the future an underground bunker away from the house, so you don't get trapped by debris of the house, may be an answer. Dams and swimming pools also seem to be a refuge for personal survival provided you can protect the head from radiated heat. This is a consideration for me as a number of my rellies live in bush settings around Cessnock and I'm thinking of retiring to the same area.
I'll add my deepest condolences to all concerned. I'll be doing my little bit through donation.
-
Yesterday I provided 3 boxes of assorted new clothing, to a family friend of my brother, who lost everything in the fire's at Marysville. These people were reluctant to take any such charity & were way too proud to thank me personally for my contribution. At times like this, it makes one feel humble to be able to help someone else in their time of need, as with anyone else out there, who has been kind enough to show the same, for which I'm sure those receiving will be eternally grateful for the generosity.

Given that these areas were relatively 'well to do' Rural Residential areas I suspect there was considerable property lost that will include many valuable, interesting and historical cars, bikes, trucks and artifacts of all types. Although real, these losses pale to insignificant against the loss of life, personal effects, property and infrastructure. But sadly missed regardless. We are all that little bit poorer.
Flooding is one thing; fire is so total. I'm amazed that items like books which you normally can't totally destroy in an open fire, were reduced to ashes in minutes. It was an exceptional fire.

The daughter/son in law of my friend that I mentioned earlier in the thread lost his new 80k 427 Cobra, an XBGTcoupe and a bunch of bikes including a pretty rare Ducati of some sort. His next door neighbour owned a genuine 70 Boss 302 Mustang and they're asuming it went in the fire. There'll be plenty more.

Re-CLARKE family and Bendigo fires, the Clarke residence was not affected by the fires, as the crow flies however the fire was only about 1-2 kms from their place. The boys houses were also safe, with Noels house being the only one in the immediate fire area. Like all the other fires at the weekend they did not behave like a "normal" fire would, and changed direction several times, coming within metres of the local KTM and Suzuki dealership. Bendigo was fortunate (if you can call it that..)in a sense that just 57 houses were lost and one person deceased, as bad as that is it pales into insignificance compared to Marysville and Kinglake. Had the wind not changed the center of Bendigo was under a very real threat. A scene of devastation in the Long Gully area, so many houses and sheds destroyed, many cars and bikes just melted blobs of alloy. One thing that really pissed me off was the rubbernecks who were just trying to get in and look at other peoples misfortune, even while the fire was still coming through like a freight train people were trying to drive in and take photos on their phones and generally getting in the road of emergency services vehicles.
-
Still trying to get hold of Ray Stevens and the Dodd family (viper members), the mobile network is still down in the area. If anyone knows of there where abouts if they could please let every one know via this post. Our thoughts are with them.
Lets hope they are safe

Fingers crosse Macca, if u know there address, one of my mates from king lake is in there and i spoke to him this morning. He grew up in there his whole life and knows the place backwards. He may know the condition of his street. The main town ship has copped it the worst, but there is still houses on the out skirts that weren't affected. Hopefull one being Rays and Grants houses..
-
Interesting what you say about the rubber necking. In my job we see it ALL the time and it pisses you off every time.
It never ceases to amaze me ??? how
1) Someone would take the trouble to go to an affected area way out of their way.
2) That their only excuse offered is "to have a look" - forkin weirdos !!!
3) Try to capture the event on film. Worse they sometimes try and sell the images (the word vultures comes to mind)
4) Don't give a shit who they get in the way of (hope they are on the receiving end some day!!!)
5) Strain their necks to get a glimpse of a body as we cut it free from a vehicle etc - now that is SICK !!!
The should be a law against them all - weirdos with shitty pitiful lives I guess ?
Dave Mac >:(

i hope they catch the person/people responsible and name and shame them. Plaster their face all on the news and send them to that military prison in Cuba? see how they like that!, but only after they have been taken to the hospitals to see what they have done. There is not justification for what they have done. They better not try and get out if by saying they were abused as a kid or are mentally ill and not thinking straight at the time and didnt know what they were doing. And today in SA we have another purposely lit fire in a forest >:(
i couldnt bare to think how painful severe burns are like other than that i have burnt my hands from hot objects/welding/fallen in camp fire etc and that is bloody damn painful, probably the worst pain i have had, so the trauma these burns victims are going though in hospital would be unbareable.
-
Just managed to get thru to Grant Dodd Snr briefly, before the reception dropped out & all is ok with his family & with Ray Stevens family also. Grant tells me they spent 4hrs trying to save Ray & Kellies home, the house has been spared minus a few sheds, Grants place has also been spared, but the sad part is, there are places all around them, which did not fair as well. They all hope they never have to experience such a horrific situation again in their lifetime. We can all be very thankful that all is well, to a degree.

If this area is as old (little hamlet places) as I read to believe.
I feel very sad for the older community members ,that will be sent to Aged Care facilities/homes away from there districts and never get to go back and visit or rebuild like the younger people.
The on going affects will be prolonged and massive to the whole of the Australian people.

Thanks Dawn, Thats really made my day, I know we have had some good news of people making it, but when its someone you know it makes it feel good. On Saturday I was deployed to longwarry and warrigal area's. Unfortunately I saw first hand what people where going through. You just wish you could have saved more houses and helped more people.

Just received the following email,
Hello all,
Fun4Paws is currently offering emergency respite care to the animals affected by the bush fires, however there are many more animals than we have carers.
There are large numbers of owners with nowhere to place their dogs. If you are able to offer a place to a dog in your home, please contact myself of Lynne Fitzsimmons and we will coordinate.
Luke - 0415 104 044 [email protected] Lynne - 0428 844 810 or
[email protected]
If you are interested please let us know when your home would be available (dates) and if you have any other pets for us to consider when placing.
Dog Listeners Australia wide have pledged $1000.00 the assist in the costs of food, petrol etc. so we hope that all costs of looking after a dog will be covered.
Please assist us by forwarding this email on to all of your contacts so that together we can help the hundreds of dogs in need of temporary homes.

Well it's good to be back in the civilized world. The power came back on last Wed night, we were starting to get jack of camping in our house, boiling cuppa's on the camp stove & eating raw toast :o Had to go out to friends places for showers as we are on tank water, no power means no pressure pump.
We sent our son & the hard drive to Melb. for the week & just got them both back.
Mind you I’m not complaining, we were living in paradise compared to many.
Decided to pick up a cheap generator last Sunday as the rumours were up to 2 weeks to get power back on. Pulled it out of the box threw some fuel in as I was eager to get the fridge & freezer connected. Started it up but it stalled within a few seconds, Hmmm must be cold, pulled the cord again, brrrm, then stopped again. Tried to start it again but the pull cord wouldn't work, bugger, must have got tangled, out with the tools.
Turns out nothing wrong with the pull cord, it was just a seized motor :o
Bloody thing had no oil, the "put oil in" warning was in the middle of the instruction book, I felt like a real dickhead, you'd reckon someone like me would have thought to check but my mind was so pre-occupied I just didn't think about it.
Another trip back to Melb. to swap it, just said, something wrong with this mate, it won't start, & was given another ::)
Later on I read the book some more & it was supposed to have come with a bottle of oil in the box which neither of them had. I imagine they may have had quite a few returned all with the same mysterious problem.
As I suspected the cheap genny wouldn’t look at the pumps. Luckily we were lent a good one to run the pumps a few days later, at least we could refill the storage tank from the dam. Always new I should get a good generator for these times but 2 grand for a good one is 2 grand I could spend on a bike or tools, in hindsight though I should have made the genny a priority.
Sorry to hear about your mate Tim, & to any one else that lost a friend.
Bunkers in the backyard would be good, but away from the house, I heard of some that perished in a cellar, where I assume the heat & lack of oxygen weren’t hospitable.
I have thought this a few times over the years, even after 4robs saga, but still haven’t done it. When you back up your files next try making another back up to store somewhere else for safe keeping, parents place or someone else you can trust to store it.

A good news story.
I just got a phonecall from Tony Clarke to tell me that the family narrowly avoided any fire damage in Eaglehawk. Brian and Bev evacuated but the fire changed direction when it was a block from their home. Brother Noel and family had packed up and evacuated his bikes in anticipation but didn't need to leave. After Brians near fatal fall a while ago it would have been awful for one of the sports nicest and most dedicated families to suffer another setback.

Just an update fellas.
The money we raise from the "Come & Try" day at Monza will go to the Bush Fire Appeal.
To "Come & Try" cost $10 & any member of the public can ride. You dont need to be a member of a club or have a licence.

In memory of those lost and for those with many bikes.RIP
West Aust this week gone.
The random destruction of the Toodyay bushfire has been highlighted as neighbours return to find out if their houses survived the blaze.
Frank Korzeniewski's worst fears were realised as he returned to his Drummondi Drive home. The amateur motorcycle racer has lost his entire property, including a collection of more than 40 classic motorbikes, all of which was uninsured.
He said even if he was insured a lot of his classic motorcycles were irreplaceable.
Mr Korzeniewski moved to Toodyay to restore the bike collection and build his house after retiring in 2000.
Walking down what remained of his driveway this afternoon, a shell of a car and molten puddles of metal that were once motorbikes was all that greeted him.
"This was my life's collection," he said. "Everything that I've planned for the rest of my days has just gone."
Mr Korzeniewski said he was really surprised at the extent of the damage because the fire had not touched several properties he had passed on the way to his house.
