i reckon its a pity they don't have the white tanks, the yellow does not suit them in my opinion.
-
They never seemed to have white tanks in the uk market. The 2nd one is going well Ross, although its currently using an enduro 360 exhaust!!

Hi there I raced a 414 for Lyal O'Brien in the early 80/s in Gippsland and did a few selected races in Melbourne and did very good picking up a few wins the 414 was a very rideable but lacked a little horspower in the to end compared to the Yamaha 465 at the time. but love to have one today.

i guessing Henry Latham?
i can remember you riding Yamaha's in the early to mid 80's if i am correct.
-
Yep Hoony may be I should be called Legend not U.
Yep started riding CZ's in the early 70's then moved on to a YZ250a was a ex Trevor Flood works replica and starded winning 1st day I rode it I think it was at the old Warragul track in 1974.
mainly rode YZ's with a short stint on a 414 Montesa and a 480 Honda.

welcome aboard Henry.
when did you stop racing MX was it late 80's.
-
It was in 1985 I gave away motorcroos and just rode a few enduro's for a few years.
so I supose I raced for 20 years and lucky with no major injuries.
I am now 51 and still fit as I have been racing push bikes and still playing Football for a local club but I think the football has to go as I cannot walk for 2 days after a game.
So I am now looking to get back into Motorcroos again and I am currently looking for a YZ 250a because that is where I started all those years ago but the prices a out of the world !!!! but I will keep on looking.
so what is your name Hoony ???
-
so what is your name Hoony ???
Alan Hoon, i remember you from the Gippsland centre series and other events, you probably won't remember me as i didn't really get any MX wins till late 80's, in 1984 & 85 i raced a XR250 in C Grade MX (i was also doing enduros's and hare n hounds) and was blown into the weeds as you would expect.
-
Your right I dont remember you, sorry I was not a big head I use to talk to any one who spoke to me at the time.
so do you still race now ?? and if so what do you ride ?

i guessing Henry Latham?
So we've got the HL sussed, why not HL414 ;D? whats the 400? Number of wins? Number of bikes owned?
-
Hi Graeme, 400 ??? I think at last count it was around 120 bikes owned but no where near 400 wins.
the 400 came from I rode a YZ 400 and some years a 250 as well models where YZ, A, B,C,D,E,F,and a 465 G.
So when I need a log name I went with 400.

It was meant to be rhetorical and facetious as much as inquisitive ::) :P
To return the favour ::), my tag, MX250, was my first race bike :-[ ;D
-
wow Graham I had to look up the dictionary to find out what those words ment, rhetorical and facetious,
none taken you must be almost my age or where you realy young when you got the MX250. ?
Henry
-
where you realy young when you got the MX250. ?
Henry
I was really really young, 24 ;D
-
... with a shit load of origanal OEM stuff for 6G. :-X
I think you misspelt; for 6G's I think you meant a ship load of OEM stuff ;D.
But I like your thinking, HL on a competitive 414. I think it would be good for everyone including the sport itself. Come on Henry, we need another pleb on a pleb motorcycle like a hole in the head. You know you want, you need, the 414 ;D. Stand out from the crowd.
-
Hmmm a 414 would be nice but what class will that put me in is there such a class as pre 85 and over 50 ?
Henry
-
What is 6G gentlemen ??
-

$6000 for a NOS Prestine bike is probably justifiable. Especially if it came with an array of worthwhile 8) useable ;) spares as Ross implies. But Montesa is an unknown quanity on the open market. Who knows what it's market price is. There is a way to find out ;) ;D.
If it was a Maico it would get $120,000 ;D (an 'in' joke; don't know if you were here back then :P).
-
hear we go again ;)
-
Hi Ross, I might have to change my dream of a yz 250a as I cannot find one at the right price.
I will give a few more weeks if no good I will get some more details on the 414, at lest the 414 will handle a lot better

Henry don't give up on getting the YZA, highly collectable bike that.
You could race the YZ in Victorian Classic Mx series (VCM), six round series run on natural terrain &
groomed mx tracks.
Lots of YZa's running around in the VCM series
-
they come up for sale ive seen a couple in recent months
-
Go the 414 Henry, you know you want one.
The world has enough plebs on pleb bikes, we want classy riders on classy bikes ;) ;D.
