Got the new (to me) bike in the shed today. '84 RM250. Now need to do the prep for the first meeting next week. It's generally pretty tidy and I've read the tips on scrutineering on the QVMX website but just have a few extra questions someone might be able to help with. Don't want to get to the track and be unable to ride due to something that could have been an easy fix..............
1. Chain tension - any general requirements? A loose chain is a happy chain as the saying goes but it obviously could be a safety issue if its too loose.
2. Front sprocket guard - Required? If so I'll fab something up as a week out it might be push to get one. Thinking ally or plastic cut and shaped and mounted with spacers.
3. Upper fork gaiters/boots? Required? Will definitely be replacing them but maybe not this week given time constraints.
4. Have a new adventure helmet (AS1698) but it has a flip up visor. Will remove the visor for racing. Any issues?
Thanks.

Sounds reasonably ready if those are your only concerns.
Chain should be adjusted as per OEM spec. They are not supposed to run loose. Should find info from Suzuki forums on the web or ask on the Suzuki forum guys here. If chain is way loose then check sprocket tooth wear also as they may be toast - as may the chain be.
Front sprocket guard is required. Fabricate something or purchase the OEM part from eBay or elsewhere. Try Suzuki shop as you never know..... 8)
Fork gaiters are not required
Helmet needs to comply with the list of standards listed in MA MOMS. AS1698 I'd included. Visor removed and run googles in certainly the go unless you are going to do over 100km!
Well done on asking ahead of time. As you say it could save grief.
See you there next weekend all going well :D

OK
Next weekend is not a race day so no scrutineering, however good time to check that everything will be ok for first race day.
1. Chain tension is not necessarily a scrutineering check, however if something was a mile out something would be said.
2. Front sprocket cover is required. If you can make one for next weekend great, but won't be sent home if you haven't got one.
3. Fork gaiters are not required
4. As long as the helmet as AS 1698 and is in good condition it will pass. No need to remove visor but it will look better using googles.
Again Sat & Sun is practice day feel free to ask questions.

Thanks mate. Most of it is done now so I think I'm good to go. Bit of running around this weekend but I guess hours chasing bits is also bike prep! More annoying doing the rounds of the shops than sitting in the shed with a beer but.

Last time i looked at the new MOMS only one cover was required now, IIRC front spockets are no longer required, but the one to the rear chain where it ffeds into the sprocket is required
-
May need to have another look. I think it is the other way around.. Countershaft cover is required.. rear in now not..!
-
Roger that. Two years of arguments for nothing...
Are you not a commish, Freaky ?
