Title: IKON shocks
Post by: Lewis on December 22, 2014, 11:18:34 am
Hi all,has any one else had an "interesting" experience with IKON? I purchased a pair of their top of the range rear shocks for my Ossa Stiletto and before they'd even seen a bump they were weeping oil.I ring them on the Friday and was spoken to by a very nice person and it was all sorted so I thought. Monday I'm waiting for a courier to pick the shocks and as I also had other things to do I ring them up for a time(if they knew) when the pick up may be. Different person and what a reception!! Absolutely no help what so ever so I ask to speak with Geoff the manager. Wouldn't allow me and the reply was "what would Geoff tell you that I haven't? "Look just send them back and we'll give you a refund!" Ok I say a refund will be just fine. I'm a bit annoyed as I try to buy the Australian product and when trying to sort out a simple problem get spoken to in a less the friendly manner. Never again will I be buying IKON. Hope you read this Geoff. I'd be interested in hearing  what you have to say.

Similar experience to Lewis' when chasing some Koni rebuild parts.
The woman was unhelpful to the point of rudeness and refused point blank to hand me over to someone who could answer a simple question about seal head details.

Got a set of IKONs built for my PE by SOS (Sean O Sullivan Supension)........couldn't be happier, he was exceptionally helpful and I couldn't ask for a better shock......I suppose a lot depends on who you deal with :)

Got to call it how you see it. I've used Ikon shocks and dealt with the staff up there in Albury. No criticism from me I must say. All my stupid question have been answered diplomatically and promptly and in one case got a rebuilt pair of shocks back to me in record time so I could competent at an event. J

Must agree about the poor product and service, unfortunately from one of our own. My brother bought a brand new pair of IKONS for an RM400 they didnt even make it off the trailer, he drove hours to a race and they shit themselves on the way. He sent them back after having an argument on the other end of the phone, a long time later received them rebuilt and guess what, they shit themselves again, my poor brother said never ever again, Ohlins is the only way to go. Its a real shame that a home grown product is such rubbish.

I have two setts of ohlins they are around 7 years old and are still working like the day I got them.

I got a sett of works shocks from the states great friendly service and fast turn around but they leaked after the first outing not oil sounds like gas need to get them fixed , I think its something small.
I would buy another sett of them ( I might of got the apprentice putting mine together  ;D )

I realise you should shop local ,  but when you ring and they are rude and un helpfull that puts you off.

Dead right Mick. Ohlins #1. We all have to remember that the Ohlins guy is also the Maxima Oil guy. The biggest sponsor of VMX in this country. It may not seem like you are supporting local business but believe me you are with these products.

Agreed Ted Ohlins are #1, Ive just refitted a set back on my CR today, that Roscoe rebuilt for me  ;)
Lewis is after a set for an Ossa, should be 4'' travel, depending on his budget, the Hagons are proven good quality option.

Interesting thread. I wonder if anyone has thought to send this link to ikon to see the difference in customer service from various staff members?

I have made an employee aware of this post and he will see that management read it.

In fairness IKON did refund my money but I still won't buy their product again.
I tried Hagon shocks and despite giving all the details they arrived with the wrong sized bushes. Rang him and told him of this, "a new set will be sent"he tells me, I never received the new bushes. I don't think it's too much to get what you pay for. Suppliers ask for details yet items don't fit or in my case with IKON shocks they leaked. I was happy to have them looked at till I spoke to the person on the phone and was told "look just send them back and we'll refund your money". Me not buying their product won't make any difference to them but had I been spoken to in a civil manner I probably would have purchased another three sets for the bikes I'm rebuilding. As I mentioned in my previous post I'd like Geoff to have a say regarding this situation. Maybe he needs to implement a course in "public relations" to one of his employees. All but one has been a pleasure to deal with, but it's that one person that matters to me.

If someone has a good experience with a supplier they may tell a few people,  but when they have a bad experience they will tell everyone. It really is a matter for the suppliers to think about if they want to survive in business.

Icon is run by the Brethren religious cult.

Icon is run by the Brethren religious cult.

I get to deal with the Brethren a lot.
Some [ a couple , well one or two ]  of them are ok.

This thread is getting better by the hour , Happy New Year Mark .

Hello gents, Happy New Year!

Proven Products or "Ikon" shocks are or were Mormans if I remember correctly, look and act a lot like the Brethren though. I have had a LOT of dealings with them over the years and whilst a little eccentric and sometimes quite abrupt they are usually good guys in the end, well Geoff Lowe, the owner is anyways...AND they have stuff you cant get anywhere else, mostly!

If you have had trouble ring Geoff and INSIST on speaking with him, he will want to help, BUT, be patient with him...like is say a little eccentric but has forgotten more on shocks than most will ever know.

For what its worth I think most good suspension guys are a little different to deal with, seems the more they know the more "different" they are, easy to argue with, most don't like the customer telling them what they want, you are after all going to them, mostly, for their knowledge are we not?

No, I am not related in any way to Geoff Lowe, but I have spent, literally, tens of thousands of dollars with him over the years, mostly car stuff though (Koni) both race and road.

Kt.

I have spoken with Geoff on other occasions and yes he is an absolute gentleman and my first set of shocks are great. My point is the second set of shocks weren't so flash(and a lot dearer)and when trying to sort things out that's when things turned to shit. I don't have a problem with him,his religious beliefs, just one of his employees. As far as talking to Geoff direct, well I did ask to speak with him and that's when I was told "what would he tell you that I haven't just told you, just return them and we'll refund your money". I'm certain Geoff would have handled the situation differently and I'd still be using IKONs. I wasn't and I'm not.

Hi Lewis,

understand mate, at least you tried, give him one last call, don't accept a brush off, explain you have been dealing with them for years and ask again to speak with Geoff, if you fail, well bad luck for Geoff I guess, he should be keeping closer tabs on his workers.

His Mum's "bed side manner" was really abrupt, Geoff's isn't a lot better but he does know his stuff, its a shame they are not in the '90s (!!!) at least!
