Title: VinduroWA
Post by: Tossa on September 08, 2014, 10:48:54 am
VinduroWA (Vintage Enduro Club of WA)

We are looking for people who are interested in riding their classic bikes  in enduro’s or on trail rides.  We are looking at forming a club based on that premise.  The club is looking to promote the sport of vintage enduro’s and open it to all bikes built prior to 31 Dec 1989, 60’s, 70’s, 80’s we don’t care.  There will be no modern bikes.  These will be days of fun and occasional competition on DT1’s, Savages, KLX’s, PE’s, WR’s, XR’s, IT’s and exotic bikes like the SWM, Bultaco etc, the bike does not have to be licenced for the road, so you can run your MX bike if you wish.  If you‘ve got a bike from the era bring it along.  All you require will be the right safety gear, and your bike prepared properly and a sense of humour
We are looking for properties where we can do 10-20km loops and the idea is to conduct social and competitive rides, but basically back in the day rules, the fastest will not always win.  We hope for members to arrange and run events, all levels of experience welcome.  We hope to hold events that commence about 9am and completed by approx. 2pm with members covering around 100kms or whatever they feel like completing.  So if you know of anyone with property or you own property that we might be able to use, please let us know
The club will be affiliating itself with MWA, to ensure insurance cover and regulated meetings.  It is hoped to have a social meeting which will involve a ride in the near future to work out whether we have enough members to form a club, and the way ahead.
If interested and wish to be involved please send your details to [email protected]   There are no politics involved we just want to have a great time with likeminded people.  We would love to hear from you if you have any ideas on the subject.

40yrs ago my dad and a group of speedway riders formed the Trail and Enduro club over here in the West.  Became the largest club in WA within 12 months, because it filled a void.  Hopefully we might get as few members ourselves.  Would appreciate any info on how you run your events in the East

The heaven guys run a good event ,now they have easy and hard section on the course which covers all level of riders ,the 10 to 20 km loops is a good length also they run it as a rec ride to keep the cost down on the riders , as a non competitive event you complete yourself on how many laps you can do . For the event if you do 5 laps you get a bronze sticker ,10 for silver and so on depending on the length of the loop . I hope this helps alittle and all I can say is they are the best fun you can have cheers Ek

Jeez, I started work on the Leader of the Opposition for leave passes for Canowindra and Murphys Creek in 2015, and now you throw this in the mix - another potential interstate trip! I'm gonna have to get her a new pergola for the house or a new car or something!

Good luck with the new club, it's a bit of work but ultimately worth it when you hold an event that people enjoy.

Ekka makes some good points. Recreational events are easier to run, and a good way to gauge interest in running competitive events too.

Best of luck, I look forward to reading WA vinduro ride reports here soon.

It is great to hear you are keen to have competitive rides, sure do wish we had a series of competitive vinduros here in Victoria on private propertys that did not require rego, my bike would get the dust off it in a flash and turning up to ever vinduro race I could possibly get to :-)

What ever you decide to do, good luck with it all.

Cheers Mick.

all will be revealed in time "oh grasshopper"  That would have been an enduro at Jacksons Farm, that too might be on our list.  Some of us are busy working and trying to arrange things at the same time.  You will get information about our first ride day I believe will be on the 15/16 Nov.  I am a male I cannot multi task apparently.  Will you be at Boddington or Bridgetown?

That looks like a good platform to work from, Barrington. There are mumbles about extending the roadrace track there, also other mutterings which have quietened down more recently about moving the local mx track up there from Stockton Park. The circuit management is very positive about the future, and the age-old problem of NOISE will be a non-event, miles from town and surrounded by trees galore, so you should be good to go. Hats off for getting things under way !

you are always welcome Glen, I can show you the WR250, which wasn't as good value as we thought, lot more wrong with it.  But will be of great use.  Yep very positive reaction from the Motorplex people and we are chasing other land that backs onto it as well, but that's another story.  This all started from 8hrs in a van with Nick, 4 weeks ago

I know of a couple of PE175 basket cases here in Bridgetown available for sale. Picked up a IT 175 Yamaha yesterday in Perth had to pay good money for it but it is a dead original third owner bike. When I paid for it and told the owner the club was being formed he said he had had second thoughts about it. Methinks it might me a good idea to grab a bike sooner than later as prices for these bikes will probably rise!!!
Roll on our first gathering in November!!!!!  :)

Hate to be picky but shouldn't your club logo have a bike with a headlight on it?

Creating a good interesting course will win people over, VERi has a few MX riders come over but we have also pulled in a lot of the more casual trail riders out of the woodwork.
A lot of them aren't into racing and don't want the drama's that go with it.
Our events, while all different have a bit of an adventure atmosphere to them, we have made use of classic Rego to have some events in State Forests making longer events with loops around 50+K's
The longer the loop the less congested it becomes when you have lots of riders.
Chicken/rooster sections work well too, the good riders get a challenge and the less experienced can bypass the difficult sections keeping them happy.

Good luck with it.

Each state has different rules and especially the licencing of bike and any event here in the west held on state land must have licenced bikes, so at moment working on private properties with 10-20km loops.  But hopefully will be able to put in the great 50km loop.  Because we've never had this over here before 98% pre cent of bikes over here aren't register and it's something we'll pursue, once we get going, got to walk before we can run

Well Mr Morris, someone had to say it.......you blokes [VERI] are just trailriders on old bikes, not that there is anything wrong with that, infact I will be doing some next year. It's that you guy's give the impression that you are racing which is not the case. At the Cockadoodledoo trailride you could see the blokes on their Husky's [ in the photo's] going around the sticks instead of over them so they obviously where just wobbling around in a paddock trying not to hurt the tyres and tubes.... ;D. Good luck in WA, mix it up but for Christ's sakes make it pre90 to get the max amount of bodies and bikes out there. Cheers, the Qld wobbler.

You've lost the plot Habib.

Yeah. Make it competitive and behead anybody that doesn't finish on gold. You could get Wiltshire to be major sponsor.

Vinduros are growing at an extraordinary rate, unlike the bikes with numbers stuck on them. The formula is absolutely perfect. No rules, no flag marshalling, no scrutineering, no outside interference, NO BULLSHIT. I say leave it be.

We can argue this some more when they add the word Vinduro in the dictionary.
Hopefully next year I may make it up to one of your Vinsprints or Vinharescrambles ;D

Set up a good loop and whatever you call it people will come and come back for more.

Well so far over 45 expressions of interest in the club, not bad for something that came out of alcohol and the National titles in SA, 7 weeks ago.  Makes you wonder how many babies were caused by alcohol and MX events.  Oh yeah, I can count one!!lol

Now come on just get in touch with Georgina at

Five weeks to VinduroWA's first event at Kirup in WA's scenic southwest. 15/16th November is the date and Westcoast Trailbike park is the venue, with a camp over on Saturday nite and a ride day on the Sunday. All vintage enduro and trail bikes are welcome, and, if you have not got one, bring your MX bike, (as long as it's Pre 90). The aim of the club is to get back to the way things used to be and enjoy the "scene" and the camerderie of like minded people in a relaxed environment. Checkout the VinduroWA Facebook page for further details and contact information. Now I must get back to the shed and fiddle with IT and watch Bathurst! ;D

Getting serious now.  This weekend 15-16 first get together to discuss forming a club.  All the relevant paperwork in for incorporation then it will be off to MWA for ratification.

We have received great support with indications of over 50 expressions of interest

So this weekend at http://www.westcoastsafaris.com.au/Park_Intro

We have about 20 people turning up for a ride and discussion.  Boith Nick and myself would like to thank all those that have shown a lot of interest in this project.  Now it's time to have some fun.  Nick on his IT(bets are being taken on stuffed gear changes), me on the Husky (please make the distance) and a fair few other bikes that have been acquired just to go back to riding fun enduro events.

Now let's see if we can make it happen

Well it's just about ready for the weekend.   Smoking like a haystack as it clears excess oil.  Thanks to Paul Gibbs, Geoff Davison and Russell Speak for all their work.  Will do more over the summer.  So far 22 riders for the get together all in just 12 weeks when the idea was hatched;

Happy days ahead! It would be good to get a chance to have a ride at Jindong, the track that will see the earth being turned over by hundreds of vmx bikes later this year! Not too mention we should get up a class of pre75 sidecars at this years Nats.
