Avard , Smith brothers , Flanagan

These guys may have been around then but were more prominent from 85ish  on ;)  Lovett yes :)

Old Trail & Track's & ADB's from 80-85 would be a good place to start looking,Plus what Ted said ;)

Cater Eldridge Ballard Haskins
I never considered Cater or Eldridge to be Pro's in there day and my faded memory was Ballard was in the states. Cater talked like a pro but was never anything like the pace of Ballard , Avard etc

Chris Cater..... Good enough to be in the ISDE though....you betcha

He talked the talk alright but he also walked the walk. Australian barefoot waterski champion. Easily the best and biggest earner in his work life in the building industry. Far and away the best organiser at a bike meet. He could talk , yep, but he could also back it up.

Ted in regards to Cater
The only thing you needed to be on the ISDE team Australia in the 80's was enough money to go. But saying that earning a finishing medal at such events is a huge thing.
He does have good origination skills but just being the loudest voice in a group of people working hard dosent make you the leader or the best person for the job. Yes I have Co run events with him. I have raced him and trail ridden with the guy. I do not seek his company or offer him beer.

How about Honest Muzz?

Kel Wearne was around in the late 70s, though not sure how quick he was.

had a few beers with honest Muz at the Condobolin enduro in 1984. The vic boys took 4 inches of rain with them and took home the teams trophy. it was a shame when he left ADB, he had a great sense of humour!!

a friend has a moto villa 350 that was supposedly Alan Cunynghame's bike, trying to track him down. Any assistance? (this is for those that only read the last posting ;D)

Alan had a bike shop in Bathurst or Orange, can't remember. He may still be there. He used to campaign a XR 350. This is what he was riding when I used to ride with him in early eighties. He was hanging around my sister in law. Shhhh.

Hans was the Husky team and geez that Chris Cater could punt a bike along and for that matter still can. Outstanding alround sportsman and top bloke that one.

Is anyone aware that Hans Appleglen just completed the London to Sydney marathon in his vintage volvo. Finished well with his brother as navigator. Another top fellow who is still very fast on a dirt bike.

Missed that - but am impressed.
I had a very, very small part in John Henderson's prep.

Funny thing,
My mums friends husband came to our riding ranch a few years back for a bit of a put around, Mum said he was an oil distributor for bikes, he had this squeeky clean husky with moose tubes. Had a good afternoon. Anyway we found out later who he was, the guy turned out to be Hans Appleglen.

Alan West rings a bell.
Pretty sure he owned a Honda dealership in Coffs Harbour too.
Jeff Dawson is another gun from Northern NSW.
Raced against this dude at a local Pony express in 1990 a he blew everyone into the weeds.

Now that's an interesting one (off topic here). A while ago I managed to become one with a tree at high speed. When in hospital I had a physio who was an absolute dish named Collette Love, anyway she treated me very well. Beers with mates in hospital was ok) but she treated the bloke next to me like crap. He'd had a road bike crash when pissed and asked about her attitude to him and me. She said that I was enjoying a healthy outdoor sport when I had an accident. No different from a rugby player. Whereas my neighbour was a wat. She also said her dad rode enduros. You've just filled in the missing piece. Thanks.

Check the names here and check the DNF's. Many names on here that you would recognize today.
Note that Gavin McLeod came 2nd in the under 250's on a XR200. Insane.
