looking for some shocks for a rm 250 n dont know what to buy looking for new, whats every one else using
-
YSS
-
Works Performance or Ohlins.....they have the runs on the board and if you look around they are the most common ones you will see, there's a reason for that. You just have to make up how much you want to spend for the different types available.
-
I use YSS & Ohlins
-
I like to spread the love around.... I've got YSS, Gazi, Ohlins, Arnaco, and Works Performance on my bikes and recently bought a pair of 14 series Progressive shocks that retail for $599 for $100 in almost new condition on vft.org. I've been using Works Performance since I bought my first pair at a swapmeet in California in 1986 and that original pair and the five other sets that have come along since have performed admirably to the point that I recently rebuilt a pair that didn't need it just for the practice ;). All of the shocks I mentioned are fine products but with me it comes down to reliability, the ability to rebuild them myself and performance, so in my less than expert opinion the Works Performance win out.
-
Ohlins and Works Performance, but if I lived in OZ I would probably try YSS.
-
Works performance support and gear was excellent.
-
I have just ordered some Works Performance, good service and shipping very reasonable!

Where did you source them from Kenny? I have them on my CZ's and they are brilliant. I need a set for my Vinduro PE now :)
-
I went direct to WP. What was strange - and mentioned this at the time to Walter - shock for my YZ landed here, set up for me was about 1/2 the local price - please explain.

Ring this guy. 0395871466. His name is Steve Cramer. He knows a bit about suspension.
You will pay, but you will also have the best. Bar none.

thanks guys i want shocks that have comp and rebound adjustment
-
Walter (Wasp) makes a good shock. <snip - admin>.
The issue that stops most people from buying a Promax shock is that he doesn't understand that people shop around and are price sensitive, and you can buy comparable (and arguably superior) shocks for less money.
As others have said, there's a reason why Ohlins (not always bought in Australia...) and Works Perf are the dominant players.
-
Back for buck Gazzi's are hard to beat whilst not the premium performance of Ohlins or works there half the price. For some reason they give great drive out of corners better than more expensive shocks.
-
I'll stick with Yss , ok not the cheapest BUT at the 2011 Nats the back up the I received was very good Even though it was my stuff up . So Wasp gets my $'s . Iain

my friend has a pair of rock shocks on his bsa, and he swears by them, they are alloy body and a good looking shock too.
-
Rock shocks are made to order for trials bikes, would have thought they wouldn't be right for mx
-
Exactly.....stick with Works Performance or Ohlins.....look around at race meets and you will see they are the most popular....for good reason.

Well I have got a lot of shopping to do between now and April then.
-
Apparently the new offshore shopping laws will be in force by April .
I wonder how they will be invoiced?
I cant see the post office opening parcels and then knowing the value of a product and then adding a tax? They will need larger store rooms thats for sure.
-

The way I hear it, any new law/tax will only apply to new items. However, the new import charges for items brought in by third party shippers is already in force. Sadly the golden days of picking up a cheap bargain in the USA are now behind us.

More revenue raising from the fat cats in Canberra. The last I heard the tax was only going to be applied for NEW items over $1000....

Get some facts
http://www.abc.net.au/news/2013-12-12/mike-baird-online-gst-claim-uncertain/5134960
If you cant be bothered to read it the summery is its all to hard and not cost affective and Visa told the guberment to bugger off as it does not want to be its tax collector. Will not happen anytime soon thats for sure. If it does happen the post office will need lots more staff and much larger storage that needs to be put in place first. As the tax collected will be much less than the costs involved IMO the Guberment will just shuffle it along from comity to further investigation and reports needed.
-
The tax collected from goods under $1000 is not worth there while.....imagine an item that cost $92...do you think the government is going to go through all the bullshit for $9.20?......same for an item that costs $920.....=$92....with all the grubby hands that touch it, they wouldn't be bothered....it's people like Harvey Norman that are pushing the government so they can make more money....if it comes in, businesses will use it as an excuse to put the price of everything up.....a bit like when the GST came in....a tax reduction from 20 plus % down to 10%....yea right, that happened......we are one of the highest taxed countries in the world already.
-
I just spoke to my shipper and my Oz Post parcel contractor and neither of them know anything about the implementation of any alleged tax. John my import guy told me he recently got a swag of tax and rule changes from the government but the laws and taxes that Walter mentioned aren't mentioned anywhere. My parcel contractor reckons it's only a rumour at the moment, nothing definite so who knows what to believe?
-
The tax may only be $9.20 , but the additional entry fee will cover the admin well and truly .
Can you please tell me what the entry fee is, how it will be administered and who will collect it?
-
Normally nothing on $500 or less=collect $50 or less not worth it
may find only on business imports not private imports
If the whining companies did not put so much mark up on people would not buy on line so much
When you buy a set of m/x riding gear, pay the freight and GST on importing and still save 50% then the local Agent is charging to much!!and he freights in bulk at a fraction of your price

My accountant told me Mark it would be a nightmare to police....I think there's a bit of scare mongering going on by a certain person who is always pushing his Asian copy shocks....better buy up now fella's before you have to sell the family house to restore your VMX bike ::). We are already screwed with the Aussie dollar....down to .88 US, take off the 5 cents you lose in exchange and the real value is .83 US cents.....plus postage costs.....our good buying days are over for the moment.

The curry muncher at Auckland Airport Currency Exchange offered me 88c UnZud for every AUD . WTF

The $1000 duty-free threshold was part of a Free Trade Agreement. I've heard the various state government Ministers for Looking Serious float ideas around, but I think there's big issues if we try to break the terms of a FTA.
The other thing is that both brands of government (Howard and Gillard) have seperately concluded that enforcing a sub-$1k GST threshold on imports will cost considerably more than it will raise.
So colour me sceptical...

The diesel pump price here is cheaper than Sydney I negotiated the diesel tax in with the Winnebago hire and with the $1.15 I got a couple of months ago it makes it even cheaper again. I reckon about 20 c liter. ;D
