Great days racing, and I mean great, there where pretty much no runaway's....all hard fought...2 bikes caught fire...the Lewis Bro's Penda (CR125 motor in a 74 Penton [KTM] frame...he was leading as well...then the big CCM went out in support (typical pommy bike...one out, all out...bloody unions)....the CCM was a big one as it was almost the farthest position it could have been away from help.....Being on the entry/exit today I got a good idea what not to buy...lots of retirements....Maico's lived up to there name [Maico breako]..... Honda= Honda goes, Honda blows [a few CR125's have had replacement motors fitted LOL].....CCM stands for shitbox [not many finished more than a couple of laps]....those 4 stroke hybrids [mostly Honda engines in better frames]= shitbox's as well. One guy blew both bikes up in there first races so handed his transponders back and was on the way home by mid morning. The heat was definitely taking it's toll and there are a lot of young guns out there pushing the limits. There's couple of very quick girls circulating touching up the boys as well. Tomorrow will be interesting. The longer duration races really sort out the good bikes from the not so good prepared ones. It truly amazes me how many bikes fronted scrutineering that looked like they haven't been washed for 2 years....some people have no pride.

The feul line came off spilling feul onto the exhaust.
Feul line was clamped properly.
It just goes to show that these things are possible.

This is a great idea ... $263 odd for each bike RETURN to WA!!!  Must be the bargain of the year.  Was speaking with Tossa late Sunday arvo as they were crating the bikes up again and he is more than willing to spread the learnings from their experience.

I think us Qlders should look at this for next years SA Nats.  I'm keen to be an organiser if needed.

It truly amazes me how many bikes fronted scrutineering that looked like they haven't been washed for 2 years....some people have no pride.

Bit harsh on the CCM's Davey.  Scott lent one to Rick Speak when his Maico failed and he went out and dropped a chain and destroyed the rear brake.  Leant the other to Nick Maxfield after his AJS gave up the ghost, fuel line came off (had been secured) and went up in smoke, end of Scott's weekend as well.  Was a great meet and Sarah is still over the moon about the 125 thanks Davey

Holy Shit...Wow ;D ;D ;D. That's my first and most lingering reaction to the 2013 Clasic Nats. The meeting was without doubt one of the best Nats I've ever attended and even though my weekend didn't work out the way I'd have liked lbikewise, the atmosphere more than made up fort it. In a nutshell, I was blown away by the camaraderie, positive vibe and smiling efficiency that enveloped the place.
*Thanks to everyone who contributed to helping to (unsucessfully)get my under finished Cheney and DT1 running properly. The fact that we couldn't get a usable spark with three ignitions on the Cheney and a pulled head stud on the DT1 ended the campaign but they'll be right next time.
*Thanks to Rob and Sarah Dillon and my old mate Tony Clarke for persevering with my crap bike preparation and trying to turn a toasted turd sandwich into a stack of pancakes & maple syrup. Thanks to Davey Crocket, Tossa and the guy with the pre 65 Bultaco for supplying them with replacement rides. Thanks also to Simo for the clutch plates and Col for the Allen keys.
*While walking my bike to scrutineering on Friday arvo I caught my right calf on the brand new serrated fatty footpeg on my DT1, cutting it badly enough to warrant 6 or 8 stitches. Luckily I happened to adjacent to our pit neighbour, Victorian Des Heaney and his daughter Stacey who just happened to be a paramedic when not racing her dads Metisse or Maico. When she saw the blood pissing from my leg she took control and cleaned and bandaged the wound so well that I didn't feel the need to attend hospital for further attention. I haven't had a look at the wound yet but my leg hasn't fallen off so thanks again Stacey.
*How good was it to see so many pre 65 and pre 60 bikes in the same paddock? I haven't seen so many Metisses or Cheneys together in years. Even the 250 pre 65 class was well subscribed and it supplied some great racing.
*It was terrible to see both Brad Lewis's Penda and the West Aussie CCM go up in flames but we were all relieved to see that the damage to both bikes was superficial, in fact Brads little Honda powered Penton/KTM was soon back racing.
*Speaking of West Aussies, how keen and friendly are they? What a nice bunch of folks they are, no wonder the pre 75 scene goes from strength to strength with spirit and camaraderie like they possess. We could all learn a lot from them.
* The pre 78 class created some of the best racing on the weekend and it was great to see a number of young guys riding their dads/uncle/grampa's bikes to keep the early bikes alive.
*The Wyaralong Nats silended for ever those  Negative Nevilles who keep telling us that the Baby Boomers will all soon be walking away because they're too old and that the early classes were doomed to oblivion through lack of interested racers. The overall attitude at Moto Park proved beyond any doubt that the older racers and enthusiasts still possess bucket loads of enthusiasm and entrepreneurial mojo that is missing from the post classic movemen and they won't be going antywhere anytime soon. I'll make a bet now that the Port Augusta, South Australia Classic Nats gets more entries than the Classic event next year.
*Big Kudos to Col Metcher, Vandy, Davy Crocket and the entire QVMX club, Lindsay Grainger and the MQ gang, the hard working staff at Moto Park, the West and South Aussies for travelling so far and being so friendly and enthusiastic and to everyone else who helped to make the 2013 Classic Nats such a positive experience.....a somewhat jaded old Firko came home a much more inspired and focussed enthusiast,  just amping to finish off my project quota and actually ride my Tribsa at Port Augusta.......the campaign started today 8).

Maico's lived up to there name [Maico breako]..... Honda= Honda goes, Honda blows [a few CR125's have had replacement motors fitted LOL].....CCM stands for shitbox [not many finished more than a couple of laps]....those 4 stroke hybrids [mostly Honda engines in better frames]= shitbox's as well.
John, I know you're trying to take the piss but general criticisms like that are nothing but offensive to people who own those bikes. You know quite well that Maicos are far from shitboxes, how many were at the pointy end, and to call CCMs shitboxes based on a fluke situation is pretty flucking cruel. Both of my Yamahas shit 'emselves with minor but terminal problems so are all Yamahas shitboxes too? We had a great weekend with great people so why spoil the vibe with unfounded  negative comments about the bikes owned by good people who helped to make the meting such a success? Very disappointing, you should know better than that John.

Firko it was nice to finally meet you and I am as disappointed as you that the parts I lent you didn't fix your bikes so that Robyn and Sarah could ride them.  They were pretty much the first people we spoke to when we woke on Friday morning after getting and and setting up late Thursday night (thanks again Vandy.. you rock mate :) ).  We never did get to share those margaritas ... maybe next time :)

Don't worry about Davey ... he's just taking the piss .. he's a bit like that .... everyone is a Homo and any bike he hasn't prepared is a shitbox according to him.  He's a Kiwi so I'm not going to defend him at all ( ;D  ;D ) but he is a great guy and he's much better when he's had his medication :)

I know he is Craig but in all of the good vibes that came out of the Nats, calling peoples prides and joy shitboxes on this positive thread is pretty poor form. The sarcasm in Johns intent doesn't translate on the page and if I didn't know and like John I'd be looking to pop him one on the naza if it was my Maico or CCM that he's calling a shitbox. That kind of "your bike's a shitter but mine's faultless" shit is my pet hate. People love their own bike and to me calling them shitboxes is almost like saying......"you're a nice bloke but fluck you're daughter's ugly".

For various reasons I didn't get to attend the meeting. Congratulation to all those involved QMP, MQ, MQ Executive (for being willing to do it) the riders and officials.

Also Mark I agreed with you we don't need negativity. After all if everyone in the EVO 500 class only rode the best bike they would be all Maico 490s.

I'm glad to see Vern's bike has finally been approved and that the B optional arm (if genuine) is approved.

It sure sounded like a great weekend and congrats to all the participants and winners and a  big well done to Five time 2013 champ Elvis.

A word of congratulations to all of the organisers, it was a magnificent event and would love to go to QVMX again next year, even tho South Australia is a lot closer for us Victorians. A special thanks to the folks who helped us source another shock, my freshly rebuilt Ohlins blew a seal on the way up from Melbourne, cant remember the chaps names, but he was gold. Didnt help much tho, 4 laps of practice and blew a base gasket. My son said it was the best VMX track he had ridden on and was really pissed off he couldnt race.

Many Thanks

Jeez Ken, blowing the Ohlins out on the trailer is pretty ordinary, I'd be taking them back to whoever it was who rebuilt them pronto with a big scowl on my face and a loud and menacing "fix them for nothing" on my lips :-*.

Yup it got worse as the weekend went on. Brad had rebuilt it just before the event and found a seized bearing on the end of the shift drum. I thought it was the dogs between 3rd and 4th. I have an all new motor and gearbox for the new year so all should be good. Kato's dont normally have gearbox problems.

What a great meeting - even if I only got 1.2 races in - still great!
Had fun in the first pre60 on "the Beast" HJH, with plans to aim for 3 starts, 3 finishes, not like last year.
Along comes Col, you all know Col with the grey hair etc.  " You must start in the pre65 250, you nominated for it, and have to keep up the numbers.  I'm going to be there too, it'll be fun."
Fun - halfway around the first lap, I drop into a rut, almost come to a halt.  Good old Col - the grey haired one - decides to go through me to make the pass on his CZ.  One handlebar and one arm cannot occupy the same space in time.  Result, a bruise from forearm to shoulder, had to ice all weekend.
Only consolation was a phone call during the week from Col - the grey one - about his broken finger - poor bugger, I felt for him.
I didn't see a sour face all weekend.  Congrats should go to all of us.  VMX is in fine shape when enthusiasts from all over can have such fun - and it's Legal.

The HJH is a very cool little bike Mike :D. We were pitted next to you and I couldn't take my eyes off it. It might not be the fastest bike out there but it had to be the rarest and cutest ;D.

The dates aren't settled yet, on facebook Freaky reckons the first weekend in September but Dawn Baker say August......it's all up in the air at present as it has to work around other events.

We had pegs but we figured we wouldn't need them.....famous last words with $600 worth of damage to my Jeep ::). The Cheney will no doubt be going but I don't think the DT1 will make the cut. It depends on who'll be riding them but I'm planning on bringing my Hindall YZ250-A and Hindall RT2MX plus hopefully the TriBSA for me to ride in pre 60 if I can get fit/well enough in time. I'm looking forward to it already.

I thought the dates were to be confirmed in October but still haven't heard - I have already "tentatively" booked accommodation - and didn't Freaky get up me?  I am one of those who has to book the time well in advance - especially as it is around budget time for us at work.

I have already "tentatively" booked accommodation -

We find accommodation can be held with a bankcard number, for months on end.
Getting down to that last week before booking in,you may start to lose a % on it.  :)

No Scots left in you and use as evidence the money wasted on outfits, matching outfits at that, just to ride your m/bike at certain times of the day.  Not quite a scotsmans trait!!!
