Title: 2013 Classic Nationals Organiser's thread
Post by: Graeme M on September 13, 2013, 05:22:37 pm
The former thread for the 2013 Classic MX Nats has gotten a bit long and unwieldy. This new thread is dedicated to information about the Nats, please do not clutter it with general chit chat.  You can continue general talk about the Nats on the old thread here:

Entries coming in well. Pre75 250cc has over half the 40 bike grid already
                                  Superseniors have 9 entries
Very few entries have included camping fee, so if you are intending to camp at the venue please attend to it. We want to avoid as much paperwork and money handling at sign on as possible.

http://www.boonahtourism.org.au/ (http://www.boonahtourism.org.au/) This is the link for Scenic Rim Tourism. Boonah is 10 mins from QMP, Beaudesert is 20 mins.

Link for QMP http://www.qldmotopark.com.au/ (http://www.qldmotopark.com.au/)

Please remember the park will be open while the Classic MX is on so if you have other riders with you who want to ride they can.

RE: Camping at the Venue

As we will have other vehicles that are not riding coming with us do we:

Prepay the camping? If so How, Where, When

Fix it up at the gate? If so we will be there Thursday afternoon. Will it be open? Opening hours?

Cheers

An option for those who don't want to drive may be freight via e-go
using a bike carton(from any bike shop) normally free or beer money.
As an example via on line calculator:
skid/ crate, 130 kg , 170 x 90 x 60 dimensions can be sent from
mel.(Dandenong) to bris (pinkenba 5mins from airport)for $160, return is $108.

If anyone is interested in this im happy to pick  up + store a crate(s), drop off , or if 2 fly in riders teamed to hire a ute may be worth a thought.
I am 1 hr north from the airport, 2 hrs from the track , im sure others closer to the track can help too.

Camping fee's for the racing days should be paid with the entry fee if possible or contact Col (supersenior50) directly.
Days outside of this event should be sorted with the QMP staff as per the link put up by Kev (KTM47).
it would really be appreciated if the pit area/camping begins from the friday morning, there will be enough time, there was last year, so there should be again for this years event.
We also understand the needs of interstate travellers etc for earlier arrivals.
we'll have a clearer idea in the next week or so as there's a few details that need some fine tuning.
any special requests with reguards to camping, PM me.
Vandy

Sarah and Rob Dillon have already entered on my TM400 and DT1 and I'll be sending in Clarkies entry for my Cheney in today. I've bought a flash new Quickshade as the 10 year old one is starting to look like its owner, a tad worn out ::) and all the bikes will have shiny new stands. We'll be camping at the track and hope to bring along a blender and some Margarita fixings to help ease the post race pain. This'll be my first Nats since Conondale so I'm more than a bit pumped.

That's great news. It says something when one of the most obscure and quirky classes in our sport can get championship level entries. It might keep the " pre 65 is doomed" naysayers quiet for a while longer ::). How are the pre 65/500 and pre 60 entries coming in Col?

A couple of points which may remove some doubts:-
The event WILL proceed, so if you were sitting on the fence you can be confident to lodge your entry.
There will be no static noise testing for classic bikes at this meeting (advised by the Manager of MQ).Ride by testing will take place.

Hi, I need two able bodied helpers at the start line to organise the riders and operate the gate, racing may be a bit boring if the gate can't drop.
Any travellers not riding from interstate would be ideal as you get involved and close to the action . Please contact Andrew 0439 478404 if you can help.

Ride by testing is the only offical way to test , by the moms for our classes, so bikes just need to meet the current quiet target.  How you muffle, exhaust or silence em is up to you, but how it reads on the track is up to the SCO

Kerry, you need to fill in an entry form.
Ive got you down for Pre75 263+ Open and age, No.211, Kawasaki.
Talking sidecars, it's a Pre75 Class not Pre78 (should be looked at for 2014) Take that as a submission from me to you as a CMX Commissioner.
Title: Re: 2013 Classic Nationals Organiser's thread
Post by: EML on October 12, 2013, 10:50:32 am
Col the sidecars are pretty much the same pre75 but a fair bit different pre85....10 yrs of development that the untrained eye probably wouldn't see. Having said that, my 1976 RT15a is alot closer to pre75 than pre85 in more ways than 1 but the cut off needs to be somewhere.
Sidecars need to be classed in other ways to get closer racing i.e. a 500 class would be good and encourage more newbies, and it's alot more to do with the team than the outfit in most cases. That is a great team on a shite sidecar will always beat a so-so team on the best unit.

In recognition of the 10 Triumphs already entered, we will have two demonstration rides (one each day) to celebrate this iconic engine. The sound of these all together will move even the hardest souls.
If you have a Triumph and dont intend to enter the Championship, you can have a ride in the demonstation runs for just the QMP fee ($35), no licence, entry etc needed.

Late entries will be accepted up to 25th at a further fee of $50, but will not be in the printed programn and take their chances re race order, class cancellation, or over subscribed class.

Col   final instructions are a bit vague ?????    sup regs  item 21-- riders brief .....tell us we will be advised of time in final instructions.
Final instructions  item.... practice and starts   #4 says to refer to sup regs ?????

please clarify.

21. RIDERS BRIEFING
A riders briefing will be held prior to the commencement of racing, which ALL competitors MUST attend. Details will be
included in the final instructions. RIDERS BRIEFING IS A NON SMOKING AREA.

PRACTICE & RACE STARTS
1. It is the rider's responsibility to undertake practice to familiarise themselves with the
track. These sessions will not be delayed.
2. Grid positions will be by peg draw.
3. Starts for any event will not be delayed or held up for latecomers.
4. Refer to Supplementary Regulations for further details on rider’s briefings, track
inspections, noise, drug testing, code of conduct etc.

123 entries, 250 bikes. Every bike class except sidecars has championship numbers. Younger age groups dont make medal numbers but of course trophies apply as per Sup-regs. A lot of interesting old bikes we havnt see at the Nationals in recent memory. Several riders returning that havn't contested a Nats for 15  years.

Just one sour note. Ray Buchanan rang to say someone stole the Monster banners, and one of their Quickshades, and asked us to keep an eye out for them

Bugger.  Shouldn't be hard to spot as they would stand out.

Of course I would be checking that container heading for WA .. that mob all looked like escaped cons to me :)  Or maybe those thieving South Australians that Davey was referring to earlier .. they looked as dodgy as hell as well :)

Just joking of course .... the usual inter state rivalry still going strong :)  I would not expect the perpetrators to be one of the excellent VMX community that attended .... maybe some day trippers?  Were they left up after Sunday night Col ?

Are you serious.

I packed my truck late Sunday arvo and slept under the stars. About 2am I woke up, put on my thongs and had a piss. I was awoken shortly after this when I heard some talking. Thinking nothing of it I went back to sleep. When I got up to leave I noticed my thongs had gone missing. I know thongs, stiff shit, but in all the years of being in VMX I have never had one thing stolen. I just hope these two things are not related. I would hate to think that we had a thief roaming around on Sunday night. I had my trailer unlocked and open and have still not unloaded it. I hope nothing was taken from it.

Probably the same mob camped next door from last year, helped themselves to deck chairs, tables and even the kettle.  ::)  :o
Only to have older Auntie M walk right up to them, giving an ear full. Then taking our WA gear back and emptying their contents off the table onto the ground.  :o  :)
There is benefits of being an older lady  ;)  ;D

We got a bit pissed on Sunday night so we didn't bother to put the bikes on the trailer or even put the tools away. I had a bit of a panic attack during the wee hours and got up to find tools scattered all over the ground......right where we'd left them ;). A few hours later a huge wind gust blew through the pit area and picked up my Quickshade and threw it over my Jeep, scratching a fair bit of paint off it and depositing a fair bit of white Quikshade paint on the Jeeps black surface......quite a mess but it could have been much worse. Thanks to the young Bowen boys and their mate from Victoria for collecting my Q-shade, folding it up and laying it safely by our trailer before us hungover old farts could get out of bed. ;D

I left at 10pm after being held to ransome by, Firko, Slakewell, Ted (Geoff Toovey's pillow cushion  ;D) and then the 2 headed houso's from Whyalla, the Monster tent was still up at the main gate at that stage....it shits me when things like that happen.
Title: Re: 2013 Classic Nationals Organiser's thread
Post by: firko on November 06, 2013, 11:01:31 am
I'm almost sure the Monster tent at the gate was up when we left at 9ish on Monday morning.  There's not a chance it was a vintage racer who took it, none of us would be seen anywhere near the thing ::). It must have been one of those young whipper snippers from the freestyle pit but it's us vintage racers that'll cop the flack. Bastards.

It was more like 10 when we left and there was almost no one left and it was near the gate then. I for one would not been seen dead in such a out of vintage fashion statement as that quickshade. You will need to ask the younger crowd who were there ridding moderns.

Was it that late Slakes?, no wonder I was hungry ;D............Micks right though, there weren't many folks there by the time we got our shit together and left. I remember thinking that the Quikshade looked a bit vulnerable as I drove past.

We now know who stole the Monster Quickshade and banners. They are vintage guys, and we know who you are.
Apart from the moral and legal implications of theft, in this instance it could jeopardise future support of Classic Motocross by Monster Energy (and any other sponsors who may hear of this.) This stupid action could have an adverse affect on all of us, and is very disappointing.
At this point only a very few people know, so if the goods are received at Queensland Moto Park (can be anonimous ) within ten days no further action will be taken. If not there are options we may pursue.
