Nope, other than a half dozen red bulls annually I've not joined the cult. You might be interested to know that new laws have been passed in the US regarding energy drink brand saturation on kids and adults motorcycle apparel and protective gear. Because of some kids drinking the stuff to the point of near or looming death, Monster Energy, Rockstar and Red Bull branding will no longer appear on ANY riding gear, helmets, boots etc on 2014 product lines in any country. You'll notice that the colors of each brand are still used by some manufactures in a vein attempt to satisfy the customers brainwashed by the marketing BUT you'll not see the brand names anywhere. AWESOME!! :D

As a non-caffeine drinker, these really work for me - including lying awake at 5am after already being awake for 24 hours...
As they say in the classics: fork that shit.
-
My wife's a teacher and she has told of grade 1 kids coming to school with the shit in their lunch pack!! Needless to say they were removed by the teachers. J
-
they are bad for my blood pressure makes it spike real high doc warned me off them years ago also way too sweet for me

Check out tonight's Catalyst on ABC iView
-
Gotta be bad for you.
They taste shit anyway.
-
The major ingredient in them is a "Taurine"
"Taurine" along with "pseudoephedrine" are the major ingredients that make up the drug "speed"
I'm sure you can make a rash decision on that evidence:)

I have a theory that energy drinks mixed with alcohol (Vodka and Red Bull for one) are a major contributor to the rise in late night/early morning club and pub violence. Mix that again with ecstasy and other party drugs and you've got a room full of bad ju ju. I picked up this theory observing some early twenty year old girls partying on this concoction and it all ended ugly with them getting into an all in blue amongst themselves. Funnily enough the ones that were drinking wine or non energy drink cocktails instead of Red Bull and Vodka were pissed but in no way aggressive and actually helped break up the fight before it got really ugly. I've thrown my theory at a few young people from the same circle of friends and they reckon there might be something to my theory.
-
Catalyst really shows their impact on a person and its ugly. 2 red bulls and your blood becomes much thicker, sets off cardio issues like 240 volts and also creates blood vessel problems hours after consumption...beware.
-
Yeah saw that article on catalyst. Not that I drink the stuff but one of the fellas in question was drinking these drinks to stay awake at work and now due to the side effects and damage to his heart he can't work at all. It was pretty scary the footage they showed of a real heart going into cardiac arrest. And to think todays young kids are getting high on these drinks and mixes, real scary indeed.
-
Once again its all about the marketing, but there must be a sh;t load of money in it given the amount of sponsorship by red bull, monster etc. I think you can even buy enery soft drinks now, mountain dew I think.
I don't drink them, never have (taste like shite) and will not let my kids drink them.
-
I share Marks theory no wonder there's so much violence at night in town one of the apprentice got me a red bull and vodka I was buzzing for hours and I only had one they had heaps more than that , should be banned from night club venues would like to see the stats on violence after the ban bet they would go down
-
I suppose the govt will start to tax them like beer and cigarettes, but it probably wont reduce consumption, just increase govt revenue
-
Whats wrong with a jug of beer?
-
Not trendy like a red bull and vodka.....I like the new Jugs coming out which are about a metre tall, hold about 6 pots and have a small tap for pouring. the best bit is the tube of ice cubes that sits down the middle keeping the beer cold...I love them.
back on topic.
a bloke I know was a 2 can first thing in the morning drinker (red bull) and he ended up being flown out from his work site with heart issues. it was put down to stress but this guy was pretty relaxed about sh*t so I suspect the scam in a can got him. of course he came good in hossie as he wasn't sculling RB's all day.
US Navy pilots are banned from drinking the stuff before flying as it shoots their reactions to bits and they had some "incidents" attributed to consuming RB. that hasn't been made public.....
-
I dont mind"1" after a night on the sauce or prior to the long drive home after a days racing, but only the little cans.
I was coming back from canberra last year and stopped to gey one and they had a special on the largies 2 for $5 so being the tight ass I am I went for it, struggled thru one of them and about 30 min later started to get all jittery and stressed so that did it for me, one only and a little can at that.
No wonder the streets are filled with wide awake pissed f***wits every weekend :o
-
Had a mate that was O D'ing on them for years.....was as hypo as a kid in a lolly shop....had a funny turn, went to hospital, Doc's thought he was having a heart attack, did all the tests, asked if a drug addict, at the end of the day....energy drinks, hospital not happy, wasting there time and money. They are the new tobacco.....very cheap to make, huge profits, huge sponsorships, Govt will eventually start taxing them bigtime=money for jam like alcohol/tobacco....wont ever ban them though.
-
I dont need energy drinks to make me go fast, that comes natually. :o
-
Good marketing etc ( Just like smokes used to be) and people dont get how bad they are ( Just like smokes used to be) I stay well away from them.
The guberment should start Taxing the heck out them right now I say.
-
Cuppa tea does it for me.
-
For me this highlights a weird thing about people. And that is that they are so unquestioning of things. maybe I just go overboard, but if something isn't natural you gotta ask, what's it doing to me?
I'll offer a few other examples. Hair spray. Girls spray the heck out of their hair, even spray it in the air and run their heads through it. If they inhale that stuff, can that be good for them? How about insect sprays? That stuff kills living things. You're a living thing. See any connection? How about underarm deodorants? Girls roll that stuff on after shaving their underarms, which means that it is likely there is some kind of breach of the skin (eg small cuts/abrasions). I'm not keen on that idea. Weed sprays etc. Blast the heck out of the patio... Hmmm... why not just some white vinegar and salt?
Energy drinks - if you don't have enough energy, get more sleep. Why would bunging all sorts of drugs into your system be a better option? I saw that Catalyst and I reckon it was pretty eye-opening. And a real worry...
-
Man made junk, dont eat it or drink it, my back ground being a license pest controller, fly spray, thats worse than smoking.
-
And that is that they are so unquestioning of things.
DDT and all those other old 70's stuff and we are still making them :( :-\

On the hairspray, a few years back we all had orange cannons and always on the lookout for more bang.
Turned out the most explosive thing that we could find was el cheapo hair spray.
The ingredients, Fragrance, glue and benzine.
No wonder all the chicks look so happy when they leave the salon. 8)

DDT and all those other old 70's stuff and we are still making them :( :-\
I run small a rubbish transfer station in a rural area of North central Victoria. Old rusty metal drums of, DDT , Dieldrin, 24D and 24T (aka agent orange!!) CFCs, organophosphates, vermin eradication baits, growth hormone injections, etc etc see and deal with them ...regularly...
Did I mention I also run the area Agricultural and Veterinarian chemical empty drum return service. As of today I have 1864 5lt to 25lt drums in my cage, only about seven weeks collection as it is the slow season.. ,it can hold approx 6700 empties stacked to the roof.
Most are class 6A and 7A toxins..... Some commonly used organophosphate ones, if filled into one standard hypodermic needle and injected into a bull African elephant... would kill it in about seven minutes...... yes a commonly used agricultural spray...... .
We eat and breath tiny residues ever day....
Have a nice dinner . Tim754

there is no doubt the 20 -30-1960's chemicals can fix everything will be paid for by coming generations for years.
the first law suit against Red bull etc will pull it all up...same as coke a cola had cocaine in it for years. two aspirin in the bottle and away with fairies...
I see the discovery of aspirin was made while fiddling with coal tar extracts....as was heroin..

Fark guys
I have been living on V, Redbull, Mother and all the others for at least the last 10 years, normally 2x 500ml a day.
Absolutley addicted to it and between the stress of life (parenthood ,owning a small business, family illness etc) have become reliant on it but never thought about what it could be doing to me.
This is the first day i havent drank it for as long as i can remember.
I am not looking foreward to the cafine withdrawal headache but they can shove the giddyup up there arses.
Thanks for the wake up call.

go back to a plain old cappacino ;D

I had a friend that was a food scientist a while back. She did a lot of research into this crap and found that just 1 small can usually took a couple weeks to get all the crap out of the blood system. Given that munter and a bunch of other poison pushers put out cans with 4 or 5 times the recommended serving I am expecting in a few more years that these companies will disappear after a run of Class Action suits.
Way back when I was running the sx.com forums I used to get a lot of crap from both posters and management about my attitude to this crap. The common thought was that no matter how bad this crap is for people that since they pumped bucks into the sport we should just STFU and go with the flow. Fork that - I am of the opinion that unless they can prove it does not harm humans (not forking dogs) then they should not be able to sell it.
-
Yep, the mighty dollar calls the shots doesn't it? So many people and businesses will not rock the boat for fear of losing the dollars, regardless of how dangerous that boat is. I remember Geoff Eldridge had a strong position on tobacco ads in ADB and I think it probably cost him but he stuck to his guns. Good to see someone with that sort of integrity. Not seeing much of that in the sporting world these days.
Funny story, watching Dungey do the TV interview after a recent win and he was bolting down the obligatory Red Bull. He swilled it around his mouth and spat it while the interview was blathering away. It came out clear... And then I saw the gears turn in his mind. Now I have no idea what colour Red Bull is, but I betcha it aint clear. And I betcha not one of those guys would drink that stuff.
-
That says it all eh
-
I'm a hater of the way these drug pushers get away with marketing this crap.
When we had the local servo I sold this along with Coca C ( and cigs).
The kids would come in and want to by those 'energy' drinks and I always said 'come back with a note from your parents first'
pancho.
-
if you can make something that appeals to the world... you make millions. with the way red bull and monster have hit the extreme scene, they are making squillions.... be interesting to see who actually controls the money... as I suspect the whole thing will collapse like a pack of cards as soon as some no hoper with a crook ticker (and a sharp mouthpiece) spots an easy meal ticket ...Slater and Gordon special...they might even get Julia back for this one....

I read or saw somewere that while the human body is growing it can't properly process caffiene. As in children and teenagers. It reccomended that you shouldn't have caffiene until you are around 21. I have seen young children running around playing in the hot sun and their mothers asking them if they're thirsty and pouring them a glass of Coke. Not to mention the over weight 14 year old I saw come out of the shop skulling a large energy drink.
I read yesterday that 57% of Americans are dehydrated and 34% (Take or leave a few for my STML) no longer recognize thirst and mistake it for hunger.
Energy drinks don't give you energy. They stimulate your adrenal gland to release energy, if you do it continually your adrenal glands become exhausted. Then chronic fatigue sets in.
-
Now I have no idea what colour Red Bull is, but I betcha it aint clear. And I betcha not one of those guys would drink that stuff.
FYI Its the colour of urine:)
-
I guess, red bull are working on some population control..... good for them as with all Natural selection.... the idiots die first (I hope)

Good one John Cahil

Guys,
Sadly I have 1 small can a day it is very addictive like smokes or coffee
If I miss my redbull I feel shaky and I know it is not good for me as last year at SX we did an experiment I was hooked up to blood pressure and heart beat monitor by race safe before my can both were at a good level after I had my can I was at dangerous levels of heart beat of 170 bpm and my blood pressure went through the roof :o :o. As this does this to you I wounder why it is legal.

Couple of years ago a young bloke out at the local track though it would be a good idea to hydrate with it thru the day , at about 5 or 6 cans he started valve bouncin' big time :o got rushed to intensive car-- lucky to get out with his life , bet he loves good ol' h2o now :D
