Title: QVMX ECHO VALLEY RD5
Post by: popeye on August 07, 2013, 06:04:45 am
Should be a great event- Any body going up don't forget about the road works, I'd allow double the normal time to get there as I have heard that its taking some people 2-2/12 hrs to get from Brisbane to Toowoomba some days, maybe it won't be so bad on a Sunday just thought I'd mention it...

See ya there.....

Okay thanks Popeye ... if my shoulder is sufficiently healed I'm in for sure.  Will be riding my new Cee Zuds (still can't stop smiling about those  ;D ;D) even if the shoulder isn't 100% but will only ride a sidecar if it is for obvious reasons  ;)

Now have you organised me a sidecar for the nationals yet?  That would be brilliant if you could manage that mate  8)

Unless the meeting is permitted as a Inter-Club Commercial there can't be a spectator charge. You should know that John after Conondale.

Vaughn it is a two day meeting you have to be there Saturday to help the clubs set up and water the track.

Where are the road works. Can we just head towards Warwick from Gatton and come in on the Warwick road.

I was up there last night Kev and there are 3 lots of road works, the worst being the range, single lane up and down, more just this side of Helidon and again at Minden, so pot luck with the Traffic, you can go through Walloon to Laidley then to Gatton and up the back way to Clifton Dryton area, I'm going up Cunninghams Gap and through Goomburra State Forrest, its about 30 klms longer but no Traffic at all.

Luck of the draw Stewy I think,  Saturday  arvo or Sunday morning I don't think you will have an issue, but hey I could be wrong, I'd be leaving a little early if I was going on Sunday morning that's all.

I'll be coming from QMP so I will just go over to Aratula then head towards Warwick and come in from the Warwick Toowoomba road. I'll try it out this weekend.

The matterhorn is still there Mic. You should get the Horwoods to come up and have a ride in a couple of weeks....I think Army and Deacon are riding....Get those big KTM's fired up again. 8)

The run down that hill, from skyline will be there. The Mattahorn may not all the dirt is gone and it is down to rock, but they may put it back for this week. We had a ThunderX meeting there one year. The track was run backwards, I remember passing three bikes going up towards the Mattahorn (backwards). I pulled across and filled each one in as I went by, (Maico 490 power).

As for roadworks if you are coming from Northside of Brisbane just go through Esk/Crows Nest. That's the way I will be going home to Redcliffe.

John as much as I love to be racing at that great track it is on the same weekend as Crawthford river classic which is 30 min from my house not 7hrs.
The CRC is a cool track as well so it's all good. Not sure what the boys are up to regarding Toowoomba they haven't yet made a decision that I know off. Pete and Brad could go to either race. Will be there for Nats thou with bells on. My tricked up 84 KTM 495 will be sorted and race ready.

If you're coming from Brisbane, you could turn at Blacksoil towards Fernvale and Esk and turn onto the Esk-Hampton Road and then head to Toowoomba from Hampton, it's about 50km longer than going up the range, but with all the road works it may be quicker.

If you're as far north as Burpengary or Caboolture, the quickest way is Woodford, Kilcoy, Toogoolawah, Crows Nest to Toowoomba

Another way to avoid the range itself is to take the Spring Bluff/Murphys Creek turnoff just after you get off the Gatton bypass.  Its nearly 20km longer, but depends how long it takes to get up the range.

If you get a 1200GS in time you can fit one in each saddlebag.
Do you have the trip logged on GPS?

Please keep the Matterhorn in. If you think the pre75 and or pre 78's will have issues making it up, put a short cut in for them and Evo onwards run right up the top. It ain't toowoomba without it !

I don't see why we cant use the Matterhorn. I went today to check out the place for 2 weeks time and next years post classic nats around Easter time. The track is as I remember it....awesome. The pits are way bigger and so no problems with camping. The club ran a great meet. Anyone who wants to run on the track in 2 weeks time....do it...a real track and I know a few guys that rode there in the 70's that are champing at the bit to ride there in the 2010's....bloody old bastards. ;D. A couple of things I noticed where there is a lot of 2 stokes getting raced at the modern nats, the numbers in the classes was really low (the promotors must be worried or at least should be worried) and those farking 4 strokes are WAY too noisy....the sooner they get rid of them or shut them up , the better. I cant wait for the meeting and I cant even ride the bloody thing!!!.

If anyone was offended by the noise the Suzuki made, that had the baffle fall out in the 1st MX1 race, please ring or email MA. I complained and was told it wasn't dangerous etc, etc. I think that was just bulls@#$, the bike wasn't black flagged because there were only sixteen bikes in the race. Also I thought it was No 77 apparently it was No 11.

As for it not being dangerous, I believe it was dangerous to the health of the spectators and the other riders. It is also dangerous for the future of our sport to ignore things like that.

Bring back 2 strokes and get rid of those noisy, smelly, expensive four strokes.

Post by: JohnnyO on August 27, 2013, 01:34:39 pm
Maybe no one at the track complained about the noise of that thing but there are so many houses close to the track and you only need a couple of them to complain to council and the tracks future is in jeapody. With several of the mx tracks closed in SE Qld recently from noise complaints it's not worth the risk.
Title: Re: QVMX ECHO VALLEY RD5
Post by: KTM47 on August 27, 2013, 01:45:47 pm
Don't worry I'm sure someone complained, but because someone is a law unto themselves nothing was done. When the chance comes I will try another approach. The sport can't afford to ignore things like this so the rule book needs to cover it.

I parked in the back streets off Nelson St. I could hear the bikes from there. It wasn't loud but that was the muffled bikes.

Yes you are right. Email MA and ask them why it wasn't done. Also GCR 12.8.3.1 a) says "Be fitted with silencers" is a silencer still a silencer if it falls apart. If your muffler falls off on the road can you get booked. Yes you will.

Which conondale track? The one used at the classic was not very long, Toowoomba would be longer but a lot faster. Most conondale modern tracks are much longer than the classic track.

There were more delays going up Cunningham's Gap four lots of road works. Echo Valley should be at least 1.6 klms, probably longer than track used at Conondale for Classic.
