Post by: rtb on June 30, 2013, 07:59:33 am
Well the year is rushing by and believe it or not it is almost half gone already. We have had two great meetings at Glenbawn and another at Canberra, we now head up the coast to Bulahdelah for Rd4 of the series and also the first of our 2013 Roy East Pre65 Classic Scrambles Series meetings.

You will find on our website the flyers and entry forms for round 4

Should only need 3 to make a race, doesn't make much of a spectator spectacle though, would be nice to have a stand alone race, will you be lining up on the rm,looking forward to see it perform after 30 pages of forum talk about it LOL.

How many 125's in Pre 78 have entered? How many do we need to stand alone?

The club rules say (and always have) that to form a seperate grid (race) there needs to be 10 entrants if less than 10 then races can be combined until at least 10 on the grid. The combined classes are scored seperately. We run races with less than 10 if we can not combine races for some reason eg someone has entered a Pre78 125 & 250 and someone else has entered Pre78 125 & 500 machine. It has always been the same

The race procedures (rules) are on the WEB page

If we had grids of 3 in every race we would have to start the meeting on Wednesday evening :P ::) ;D

The big question is will my 125 finish a race ::) ::) ;D

Well it sadens me to report the short story, my pre-65 mount wont be ready for the first round of the series ::) :'(

Neither will Beggars Jawa endevours by the sound of it ::) :'(

But, the silver lining is Beggar, Brownie and myself can make it to the Working-Bee on this comingSunday the 14 of July.

I have a German UNBREAKO brush cutter to chase the snakes out of the tyre walls things.

Beggar is bringing an oxy-set with welding and braising rods and a cutting head!

Beggar is also bringing an inverter stick welder and electrodes for the Heaven Generator, just in-case.

He can also bring a paint spray pot with charged gas bottles to push it if needed? Let us/me know!

Should we stop at Macca's? for  breakfast? or is that on too?
If so? what time should we all be there?

Remember, we have a few events coming up at this complex now, and the more of us that can make it to this Sunday's Working-Bee=the easier it will be and the sooner we can hit the frog and toad for a relaxed drive home.

A hell of a lot has already been done by the hard working Stalwarts of the club, we just have to tidy up, fine tune :) and have a BBQ to boot!

See you on Sunday if you can make it for a few hours :)

Only 1 more sleep then its off to the track we go, looking forward to seeing and hearing the pre 65 thumpers go round.

Geez I hope Ted brings a big plasma screen TV along with his electric blanket/fridge/BBQ/fire drum & Tardis like trailer, so we can watch The Ashes whilst we're having a few on Fri & Sat night  ::) ;D

Big entry guys
almost 90 pre entries 8) ;D

7 Pre65s have pre entered. I've even scored a 'sponsored' ride on Matchie Matisse ;D ;D ;D Does ride it like you stole it apply ;) ::) Oh sorry Carl I'll baby it OK. The one up three down right hand gear change may take the smile off my face

7 doesn't sound like a massive entry but over the last year or so numbers have been down to 0 or 1 so our entry of 7 is a good start and all indications are that the number will be much bigger come rounds 2 & 3. Just think of the look on the Canowindra local golfers in October if 12 or so Pre65 machines are zooming around Canowindra showground 8) 8) 8)

Can not wait :D

Ted is even riding the RM125 so the scrutineers are bringing their sunglasses, rule book and magnets to inspect for alloy where there should be none ;D ;D  :P :P

Awesome, Awesome race meeting! The conditions turned out to be excellent. The track had been prepared perfectly. The Pits were full. The Roy East Racing was a sight to behold and a raving success. Congrats to the Heaven Committee and all the volunteer helpers for a classic Vintage MOTOCROSS meeting.

100% correct Ken, heaps of work by the committee, working bee attendees & Peter C & his Bulahdelah mates made for a brilliant weekend with a great bunch of people. Great to have the lions club there too, hope they made enough to come back for the CRC.

Cheers Stewart

Thanks to HEAVEN for producing a great weekend of racing on what looked to be an almost perfect vintage track. The weather was great, the racing was terrific and the camaraderie fantastic. I'd especially like to thank Scrivo for his tireless enthusiasm and for the T-shirt. It was a tad disappointing to see the less than expected numbers of pre 65 bikes but they still put on a great show and I think the entries will improve as the old bikes are slowly dragged out of their hiding places. It was wonderful to see the legendary Vern Grayson back riding his absolutely legal pre 65 Cheney Triumph after a 15 year hiatus. Both he and the bike were a little rusty but by next round the 71 year old legend will be up and at 'em with his usual speed.

Thanks Firko but I am only a minor part of putting on what was a great weekend of racing. The whole meeting ran so smoothly because everyone worked together so well 8) flaggies/riders, officials and especially Pete Crampton for such excellent track prep also all the guys & gals that showed up for the working bee 8)

The Polo shirt was not free ;) it comes with strings attached you have to stir up all the Pre65 you can as we want more bikes for the CRC meeting and more again for the Canowindra Cup meeting ;D. I think the shirts look a treat (thanks to Kenneth Swan for the production of the shirts and Jim Scaysbrook for the period photo of Roy that we used).

We had 7 entries for Pre65 but some of the bikes have been asleep for a while so there where some wake-up grumbles from a few. seeing two Jawa (Jawas? whats the plural of Jawa) was great.

I had a ball.

Highlights for me
1) Finding out just how well the Metisse frames handle. They hold a line, turn in and do whatever you what the bike to do in the most amazing manner 8).
2) The first 3 laps of the Pre65s on Carl's Matchless Metisse.
3) Seeing Vern mix it up particularly in Pre65 races 3 & 4 when he started to finding his race legs again.
4) Watching Birko on the Pre65 250 Husky & Carl on the Triumph Metisse mix it up from just behind them.

Low Points for me
1) Feeling the Matchless engine tighten up at the completion of lap three of the Pre65s
2) My Monty 414 loosing an exhaust stud meaning I missed my final race :(

Agreed, my son and I had a ball too.

It was our first time racing on the 'home track' and all of the work done on the working bee paid off in spades!

Great facility!
Great racing!
Great weather!
Great group of people to share the weekend with!

Highs -
Saturday's track conditions, as mentioned above. Super tacky, very nice!
Fireside banter amongst old and new friends.
Seeing the kids having nearly as much fun out on the track as the adults

Lows -
Base gasket blow out during pre '85 pre race sighting laps on Sunday morning spelling the end of proceedings

See you at the next one :)

Running the Triumph as a Twingle at 10.5 - 1 with no through bolting has proved a little too much for the old girl

Had a pretty good day at Bulahdelah as well.
Highlights of the day was getting showered with rocks off Scrivo in the last 2 pre78 motos.. ;D
Watching the pre65 guys blast there way around on some awesome machinery
and finally getting all the quirks sorted in the CZ...
Lowlights ??  Well there wasn't many, probably seeing the some of the pre85 and evo guys getting
banged up after the lunch break was not a good sight..
Wanted to meet firko but was too shy... ;D
Thanks Andrew.

Hi Guys,
As you may or may not be aware our wonderful photographer is abstaining from alcohol for "Dry July", see her post below.

Hey guys,

This has absolutely nothing to do with my photos but I am calling out for any donations for my Dry July Fundraiser for Cancer.

Any donations would be greatly appreciated in honour of my beautiful cousin Annie who fell victim to Cancer last month.

https://au.dryjuly.com/profile/dianaharding

Thank you,

Mrs H....

I have committed to donate $1 for ever photo I see of myself from last weekend, & I challenge all the other Heaven VMX members to get behind our photographer's charity effort and show the true club spirit & suppport & donate at a level they can afford to this fine cause.

PS If I offend there is no intent, just trying to support a lovely person who supports all of our ego's & doesn't even ride.

The smell of Castor supplemented highly tooned 4 strokes - was  an uber special memory for this weekends racers and goers,  who were born before 1960.  For the rest of us post 60's units it was a memory we will live with for many years to come.

This meeting was in honour of Mr Roy East - he was an A Grade all rounder.

The mix of Pre 65 bikes that competed for the sake of competition was as varied as it was interesting. Yes we at Heaven have some regular pre 65 exotica that Carl B # 7 brings along, but this event we had Vern on his Trumpy Tiger 500 twin. The most Perfect sounding bike at the meet.  Brilliant Cottons, Boat Tail Bultacos, bolt together frame Husky, fresh out of the shed KTMs.   Brilliant presentation of bike and rider. @ 71 years young - Vern was a picture of health. Fit for a fight and fight and fight he did. Out of the same mould as our own Jewel of Heaven - Jens Olsen (not present). Hard like barbed wire - plus smart due to experience (read age).

The duelling Jawa's - a sight to behold. Never a snowballs chance of winning The Event but they knew that before they started. The boys on the Jawa's added another fantastic memory for all  of us. Close racing between them - so close - mainly due to the smoke screen they laid down for each other. (Jawa's work better in high wind by the looks)

Sir Firko  arrived,  to cast a careful eye over proceedings. We past inspection by all accounts. (knew we would). Those competitors, too shy to approach a VMX legend such as The Firko have missed out this time. Don't let it happen again. I am sure he will be at the next event and happy to take questions, give advice and tell race stories.

Yes the weather. I am getting to that. Once again it was perfect for what we do.  A bit of piffy drizzle on Friday evening. Hardly enough to wet my Husaberg cap.  After that, bit of wind and sun. Perfect track receipt.

Saturday practice started in a Gentlemanly fashion. Results of Friday nights fellowship were evident on the faces of some our best Camp Fire racers - Seano # 1, Ted # 84 and the best of all Bob B #90 (shocker!!!).

Dennis #555 and KTM guru took over where Fernando left off with the ritual passing around of Bottled Fire Water. This time is was some home grown concoction of Rum and chocolate. I noted however it was only offered to the Fast Guys by Dennis. Blokes like me were told we didn't need any - in fact you may as well put the beer down and drink water. Obviously no threat on the track.

Those of us who are there as purists of the racing code were bright eyed and bushy tailed Sunday morning. Keen to get into the sticky mud of Bulahdelah. (after the juniors had cleaned the worst sticky crap off the track)

 :D ;D :P

Mrs Hardo told me to use those yellow smilie faces to liven the script up. Hope it worked. 8)

Down to the racin'.

Well, if you were here, you have to admit it was soopa fast and soopa close. The track is not really that wide and with a bit of racin' and dry weather it resulted in a track where you could not - could not brake traction. Left Right or off the line. The brave hearts won out.

The race of the day for me (watching) and for many others was the Pre 85 all in after smoke-0 (also known as the race of the duelling Jawa's)

CR 500's  x  2 and KX 250's x 2 made up the fast 4 at the front. The rest were spectators.  Carl B on #7, Carl R on #2, Liam #97 and Hardo # 10. By this stage the track was at its best and so were the racers. Old vs Young vs 500 vs 250 vs Team Green vs Team Red. It had it all. It was so good to watch I have NFI who actually one.

The Juniors had a corker of a weekend. All of them improved over the two day and got a greater appreciation of Pre 65 cast iron. And they loved it.  Spotlight on Fridie night was the highlight for them with an after party of red drink and sossage sambos. Heaven - kid style.

The ladies didn't disappoint. Great mix of old and new too. Pre-race rituals, such as hair braiding, produced some outstanding results on the track. Smooth, dispute free and full of smilies. Just how we would like all racers to be. Mrs Hardo and Mrs Justin are now looking for sponsored rides to be part of the action.

Seano (also known as # 1) has secured  Pre Race H. B. ing from Brigette in an effort to make up a distinct lack of  points - due to none starting issues.

The list of maintenance issues is long and wide. Over compressed Pomie twins resulting in cast iron barrel fracture, Spanish clutches, NON genuine Husky handlebar and throttles, weak Suzuki rear shocks (side load), cheap after market YZ mufflers and 500 singles getting hot and tight. Note - not one Hodaka issue - cause there wasn't any at the race.

Homework for Heaven members - find out what Mike G # 25 has done to that TT 500 4 stroker to get it that fast. I just gotsta know.

Special mention too for young Rob Shoie #61 turning up with a trifecta or Huskies. Pre 75, pre 78 and Evo big bores. Used Saturday to identify some operational issues which will be sorted prior to the Crawford River Classic.

We should say a big thanks to the members who worked at the most fun working bee ever. The additions to the Complex were appreciated.

New members - some of which are father and son KTM teams were on board this time round. Thanks to Teds Big Day Out the other month.

Enough talk. Back to polishing the Maico and planning the next race strategy.

Pete

Great wrap up #100. You are very good at it.

Was good to see Heaven's newest recruits out there. I heard the son had a race meeting booked elsewhere for the Sunday and was only going to ride the Saturday. He had so much fun he cancelled his race meet and hung out with us to race the Sunday with Heaven.

 Great effort and welcome gentlemen.

Hi guys (and girls of course)

The boss has told me to load the photos in the "Foto Forum" so as all good wives do, I have obeyed the Master  :)

Nearly sorted and ready to upload I have put a few up for you to see.

Great race meeting and good fun as well.

Thanks to the organisers for all their efforts, I'm becoming a tad addicted to this little Heaven Family  :)

Update on Carl # 2 and Daz on #127

Those who were at the track on the weekend will remember a bit of flag waving going on - in particular during the Pre 85 and Evo races.

Carl # 2 on Evo XC Husky got tangled up in a spill on one of the S bends. Resulted in him falling awkwardly. Dave the Medic was able to provide reassuring info and advice.

I would like to thank all those officials, medical professionals, riders, mums and kids who helped Carl and I last Sunday afternoon.

Heaven is so much more than just a race club.

Daz by he own admission out raced himself - The Red Mist took hold and it was welcome too - until he did some steering lock to steering lock flip flops and chucked himself on the hardest bit of the bulahdelah pavement. Much sore body all round but fit for another fight soon and keen.

Old Mate # 19 on the Superb A5 KX 250 (and fast) chucked it away all on his own around the right hand sweeper just before the finish straight. The Big Tan truck wasn't needed as he walked off unaided so I hope that was a sign all is well.

Many thanks again

Pete and Carl

I can report that #19 on the SWEEEEET KX A5 ( Shawn Tomkins ) is okay - although he has had a hard time getting shoes on and off from all reports and is quite bruised and battered from a nice little (big) high-sider...

He'll be back for Team Green..... never fear ....
