Which well known collector/racer/forum member and all round good bloke has achieved the almost impossible by managing to wangle a CCM out of one of the sports more colourful collector racers? ::) The CCM is totally new ground to our intrepid hero but one thing is for certain, the bike is in good hands and will be as neat as a pin once he's restored it. 8)
I've been mates with the seller for 25 years and this is the first time I've seen him sell a bike since his wife sold his Alron from under him while he was at work 20 years ago ;D.
-
so did he sell or fork the wife off for selling his Alron ??? ???
-
The Rumour is true ;).
Got a text message friday afternoon, come and pick up the CCM its yours for what it owes me. So in a joint venture Husky Central now have a 78 CCM ;D ;D ;D
Still working on getting the 4 V head out of him ;)

Your a cruel man Paul ;D funny as fork but cruel :D
-
Will you fit the correct forks? have a set hung up in the garage
-
Ben
currently husky forks with all the husky casting marks and name machined off.
Send us a PM if you would like te sell the fork set and we will consider it in our resto budget. We plan on a race resto and not so much a concourse resto

Awesome bike gone to a great home :)
-
The seller of the CCM has replaced it with a C&J Honda......he can't help himself ;D.
-
We saw photographs of the C&J that Mark speaks of and is a work of art " and "i wish it was in our shed
-
It's not the prettiest C&J on Planet Earth but it'll look much nicer once it's been "prettified" 8) The aim is for a Bill Bell Honda style look.

-
Straighten the silencer ,loose the MR tank , fit a 79 CR250 tank, fit a preston petty headlight and that would be even more sensational
-
I think Sudman's genuine Bill Bell bike is close to what Alan's aiming for.

That build of Tonys is a thing of beauty 8) another mate raced it at the Johnny Old and said it was the best 4 stoke he had ever ridden .
-
How's Tony going Bill?
-
Better check Marky, i think he has replaced the CCM with another make as well ;)
-
How's Tony going Bill?
Ask this kiwi bro 8)
I call in and see Tony (sudman) every trip through thru palmie and have a coffee , he is getting weaker all the time but still seems to be in good spirits & takes a keen interest in my progress with the '74 C&J XL412 that I bought off him (the black one on page 1 of this thread)
Tony is a top bloke , the world needs more sudmen

Oh....you mean this little thing Petey?

That's the one ;D

I doubt the replacement will handle the rigors of a scramble track like the CCM.....

Tank & seat done ;)

-
Are you going to fit a groovy marble effect seat like the NOS bike in the bottom photo Pete 8)?
Mark The mighty CCM is getting the Marbelled red seat cover.
Shoey and Husky Pete are big fibbers, that Tijuana tuck and roll seat looks black to me ;D. The tank looks good Pete ;).....so does the rest of the bike actually, good work lads.
This might have got the Klub Kevlar/Husky Central Bling Award if it had been judged this year. We'll have to pick up our game to challenge the mighty CCM next time its on. Jonesy's not in the race, the C&J's too fugly ;D and nothing else is close to finished. The marvellous Cheney looks pretty shiny though ;)......it's all about style, as some Kiwi once told me ;D.
-
shoey and pete im liking the seat and tank
-
Very nice fellas. The attention to detail is a credit to you.
-
Yes the seat is black but the marbelled red seat is on the way ;)

Pine cone craft ...nice touch 8)

Man that is such a sexy bike. The black seat doesn't look so out of place now with the side covers on and with white guards. The motor should be in by saturday!
-
Pete, don't get any ideas about putting my Triumph motor in the CCM ;D...........It's looking pretty bloody nice.
-
Pete ask firko for a freedie racing decal left 1 with him for you at the weekend

Lookin' sharp as a rat with a gold tooth there Shoey! :)
-
looking sharp guys, not sure on the Evil Kinevil stripe on the front guard
-
Thanks , today was a real top day
-
What happened to the original Castrol front number plate boys? I thought that was the coolest part of the bike because they nearly all self destructed.
-
Wow that bike looks awesome!!!! Bet it sounds awesome too!
-
Mark
We have an original and a repro. front number plate will the Castrol logo , but they look a bit ordinary , almost like an enduro bike headlight missing the lense. i think we will be using a black oval with the cable saver
-
Great work men! Another CCM back from the near dead ;D The only thing that could make the bike better would be living beside my B50 in my shed!
-
I see a Husky part has made it onto the CCM ;D ;D Nice work gents. Look forward to the report on how it starts and runs 8)
-
Just needs a Freddie racing sticker to be way cool

Cool, it's your bike. Maybe it'd look better with the yellow background and numbers? Are you bringing it down the farm on the weekend? I'll be sorting my bikes for the Nats and AJ and Frank are bringing some bikes down for some test & tune time.
-
Already on there Mikey ;)

Cool. I've got a couple of great Upper Hunter reds and a nice bottle of rum for Friday night.
-
Here's a heartening trend, 20 British bikes entered for the Classic Nats and 3 more definitely coming
-
craig eckhart are myself are feverishly trying to get a 74 and 75 ccm ready in time as well....
-
Go for it, we'd love to see those bikes.
Also great to see Craig back..

-
WoW..... you blokes sure do know how to put a bike together! And make others green with envy....or is that black? Well done! Have you started the beastie yet?
-
Well done.....awesome bike.

maybe this afternoon it will fire up in anger
This CCM came with a Runtronic ignition so we will see how it goes.
In the world of ”real” engines, the RUNTRONIC system can bring new life into old machines. Take a vintage racing motorcycle, for instance: what a relief to get rid of the whole complicated and touchy magneto! Where flywheel magnetos are used, they can be replaced by a much lighter impulse generator (a disc with a magnet) plus a RUNTRONIC ignition module. You will get easier starting, better acceleration, more power and much improved reliability. For high speed two-cycle engines, that require reduced advance at the highest speeds, the advance curve can be tailored to a specific engine and a specific application.
If you are building your own SI engines, you will find the RUNTRONIC system to be an easy-to-use, bolt-on unit, that will breathe sparkling life into your creation.
The Runtronic spark ignition system is provided with an electronic advance and retard circuit for rpm controlled ignition timing. The system generates three sparks in two degrees of crankshaft rotation up to 4000rpm and then single spark thereafter which makes the engine easy to hand start. The engine will not kick-back, since the ignition point is automatically retarded at start.
No mechanical advance and retard device is needed. Total advance and retard range is up to 30 degrees stepless variable.

FIGURE: BASIC COMPONENTS
Technical specification:
Basic design: CDI unit with all electronic parts potted in a block of epoxy
Advance range: Zero degrees (at start) to 35 degrees is standard;
50 degrees with new “flux sensor”.
Operating voltage: 3.6 to 6 V (6 to 24 V can be handled by means of an optional,
built-in voltage converter).
Current consumption: at 5 V input: 12 mA at 0 RPM (stand-by), 120 mA at
5 000 RPM, 225 mA at 10 000 RPM, 350 mA at
20 000 RPM.
Spark rise time: 7 microseconds.
Max spark frequency: Z: 25 000 sparks/min; S: 40 000 sparks/min
Firing voltage: 24 000 V with 5 V input, 28 000 V with 6 V input.
Dimensions: Z: 1.2 X 1.2 X 1.0 ” (30 X 30 X 25 mm)
S: 2.0 X 1.4 X 1.0 ” (50 X 35 X 25 mm)
Weight of ignition
module, incl. dual-
output coil: Z: 1.4 oz (40 g); S: 2.0 oz (55 g).
Included in basic set is:
Electronic module with dual-output coil
Sensor and trigger magnet
Ignition cable with spark plug boot (for ¼” plugs or for full-size plugs)
Power leads (S-model only)
-
Unless you use a shielded cable from the printed circuit board / unit to the spark plug cap , or the printed circuit board is fixed to the frame or engine ,"the unit also needs a earth connection" , not shown on the circuit diagram.
No earth from a fibreglass airbox , so a earth wire connect is required.
-
So, from what I can figure this replaces the standard CD1 ECU and coil. If, for instance I'm using DT400 Yamaha ignition on my Yamaha 360 engine so I presume that I still use the Yamaha stator and rotor but the Runtronic replaces the ECU and coil....have I read it right Pete? If that's the case it's probably a similar setup to what I'm running..... a Rex's Speed Shop ECU that's made specifically to suit early Yamaha CDI units.
I think that any alternative to the over rated and over priced PVL is a good thing. There's a number of good alternatives available out of the UK & Europe but this Runtronic setup seems to be a good unit that's well priced.

Any chance it will be at Canowindra this weekend ??

Mark
Not quite

Stewart , We may run the CCM at Canowindra this week-end , we will see how it go's when we run it this week. It if run's OK , it will be there.

Thanks Rob.....Pete just rang me to give me the run through on how it works. I like it so I think I'll give it a squirt on my next engine build.......probably the YZ250-A engine in #2 Hindall. Thankfully our Blacktown based race engineer is up to speed on the process ;).
-
Cool, be great if you guys get there, love the sound they make.
-
Thought I would add this picture of my friends CCM, its a 79 2V which he has had for 18 yrs or so, he race it in the british twin shock championships(1995 ish) before it siezed and ending up in boxes until reciently. he put it back together before taking it to Rob Spry`s to be finished as you see it now
-
Sorry Its my first time!!!!
this is the link to the CCM pic , hope it works

I recognise that tank....! Bike looks great
-
Very interesting. Price landed in Aus should be less than $300 by the looks. Much cheaper than PVL, Powerdynamo etc but this has much less hardware involved so should be less costly to manufacture.
Don't know how long Runtronic has been making products but does look a little bit like a cottage industry product so hopefully manufacturers backup support is there is needed.
Requires a 5v nicad battery so I guess VMX bikes will be total loss. Just need to have a spare charged battery on hand - shouldn't be too difficult to remember!
Is it a simple process to mount the magnet in the flywheel? Drill a hole and glue in the magnet?

Hi Huskypete.
What a nice rebuild.
This is my fathers old bike. This bike was sold new 1978 in Halmstad at the Swedish west coast and my father buy it 1 year later at the same dealer who sold it new. He rode it from 1979 to 1983 and after that we have it storage in the garage. We sold the bike to a friend around 1995 and he never rode it. i Think he sold it just Before its arive to your country on the other side of the World.
My father applicated the Husky Wheels and the forks and maybe even the Öhlins (I think it was a pair of Koni on it from the begining). This parts come from Another friend who rode for the Husky factory at this time.
I rode this bike a few times when i was a 15 year old boy and it was tricky with the brake pedal at the left.
i hope you can ride with it and feel the same good feeling that i have.
Regards
Mikael Svensson

It's about time someone posted a bike with real class on here. What took so long to get the beast going Pete?
