Title: YZ 125 E arm now legal for D models
Post by: GMC on April 01, 2013, 10:04:01 am
I had been avoiding bringing this up as I thought my memories may have been fading over the years and that I had my timelines mixed up, but with some spare time over Easter I dug through some old files and found the actual receipt for my optional Yamaha Alloy swingarm that I bought early in 77 for my 125 D that I was racing.
In essence this arm is the same as the ā€˜E’ arm that came out the following year.

This should be proof enough for anyone to run an E arm in their D now.
Suzukites will have to keep searching some more for their proof.

This means that my YZ125E is now pre 78 legal as its the same as a D apart form the alloy arm. What a day in History!
Surely no one will notice that the frame is cromoly.
LOTS OF LAUGHS

Dont open any mail Geoff, I can see those letter bombs from the Suzuki nutters arriving soon, you will be the most hated person in Victoria (yes, even more than Mont ;D).

I am sure that Geoff has just thrown it out there to try and fill up the "recent posts page" with one thread and extinguish the forever debated RM125B ally arm debate.

Well that's interesting Geoff, I didn't know there was a genuine alloy arm available for D models but there you have it. Is it in the parts book as an option?
Have you got any pics of it fitted?

And YZ's minus 43 mm forks and twin leading brakes, now who doesn't have 3 or 4 of them sitting around the shed

I saw somewhere that the 77 RM optional alloy arm was $ 280. What was the cost of a 77 RM 125. $ 1,000.00 thereabouts. I think this is the probably the main reason there is not too many kicking around OZ. More than 25 percent of purchase price just for a bit of alloy.

And you are right GMC is rolling in it :o

That's probably heavier that the original steel version.

I guess what has to be proved now, is the D alloy arm really the same as the E arm?  RM125B optional arms are not the same as catalogued C arms.

I was only joking about putting a78 swing arm on my d model last week in the great Suzuki debate,I think I have enough time to get it fitted before next weekends heaven opener.did it really make a world of difference back then other than aesthetics.

I'm sure that there was one on eBay last week for 30 bucks.
