-
I like to do Mortlake Vic I have only seen pictures
-
On my brother-in-laws magnificintly manicured lawns and shrubbery......
-
Would just like to get time to ride dont care where.
-
The golf course at Magoos wake....it wasn"t as good in a rental car compared to what I think a bike would have done ;D
-
Any sand belt golf course....... :D with a healthy new body be handy too....
Mortlake to those who don't know ,has/had the track around inside the rim of an extinct volcano.
Off you go Dave dredge up your old Promoter skills and knowledge as I think an open VMX meeting in the crater would be very well patronized ;)
-
Clarence
-
X Box....do the biggest whips.biggest jumps and stuff up so bad while never getting hurt ;D
cheers S
-
Carlsbad, the Citadel, Hawkestone Park and any of those green pasture tracks in NZ 8).

Hey Slakewell, there will be a VMX meeting at Echo Valley next year, sometime around Sept/Oct....get your bikes ready.....Also at Qld Moto Park.
-
I liked the old Oran pk track , Bulladela CRC , Deloraine 03 Nats , The NZ grass tracks look a lot like Tassie .
-
Mammoth Mountain or Saddleback.
-
Namur would be good
in oz done most of the tracks , prob manjimup
in US Unadilla
-
ALL of the above + 1...The Pilbara region of WA is where I'd love to be able to race VMX because it's where I live & so bloody far to everywhere else!

Do they use the older version with the full front straight?
-
It will be a first as far as Vintage goes Mic, I'm sure I'll be able to drag some old boys up there to help oversee the design...where are you JohnnyO.... :D

I rode there in the late 80's I always did the Mountain Man race, The car club didn't like the bikes crossing there part of the complex so they shorten the track some what. In the 80's you would be in top gear for a long time on the main straight and the 500's ruled. It was a real 500 track one of the very few in Aus. Sadly last time I called in to watch a race there they had even stopped using the BIG hill. I will make the effort to race there again regardless of track layout I will even try and get the younger Lewis brother to drag out his 490 Maico as he has a soft spot for this track.

I've raced there a few times at the Thunder X in the Evo class in the last decade or so on a 490 Maico and CR250RA, awesome track.
Yes they use the full track, it's still pretty similar to the 80's layout with a few extra jumps.. the car track no longer gets used.
-
Im unsure but it could be too rough for Pre 75? I remember one year a guy did a demo lap on a b50 and he crashed in the rain trench.
-
It'll be fine Mic, it will be fully prepped and watered, bring as many N S Weshmen as you can, we want to make this an anual event...."Vintage Mountain Man"...I will see if Gally wants to ride it and hopefully get a few of the "Pro's" from the Conondale Classic to ride it. There are not many tracks left to ride on from back in the day and the Toowoomba region had alot of great riders so we are hoping to get some of them going on the old girls....hopefully I'll have a date in a couple of weeks....2013 is going to be a big year.
-
Christmas Hills , Victoria if they emptied the water. Gum Valley Mackay on a nice June day. Too bloody hot at the start/end of the year
-
Any where on Unzuds green rooling hills, conondale and Elsinore calafornia

Mangere mountain in the 70s
-
Christmas Hills , Victoria if they emptied the water. Hey Rosco the track is NOT under the dams water ;)
-
That's what I meant Tim. Few years back though I saw the bottom of Eildon on a way through to Melb. Wouldn't wish a drought on ya though. Been weird, with the big drought and then all the floods in the last few years. Can't remember weather like that when I was a kid in the 60s and 70s. Back home after Xmas, hope the weather gods will be kind. Have a week in Mackay next week, will enjoy seeing the daughter but not looking forward to the heat. Just a big sook now can't each day be between 25 and 27. Have a goodChrissy and I hope Elmore is nice and green.

Longwarry
Smithton
Wallan
Elaine
Lakes Entrance
to name a few.
-
stew Mangere mountain was so cool, specially when i lived at scott
ave at the foot of the mountain, just ride the M2 Honda up the road.
-
I just thought of another one....I'd love to ride the old Amaroo circuit from its glory days with the legendary tyre chicane coming onto the well oiled main straight, circa 1973/4. I loved that track.
-
Somalia.
Surely even I could win a race there...... ::)
-
The US of A on any of the old tracks . thats only because I have ticked OZ off the list. but I love riding at Connandale.
-
Mike , did you ever do the Xmas circuit.....Rotorua - Taupo - Whakatane - Waihi beach. 4 race events run in 2 weeks on the best ever natural terrain tracks.
-
The CD6 & CD7 Pre85 MX tracks.
Not just the tracks but the same conditions would be great. They were spot on for my 175 ;)
Any track when conditions are just right.
-
Yes I raced those 4 events back in the day Stu.Whakatane is still running we had our 40th anniversary last year and had a good turnout of vmx bikes .Not natural terrain anymore and name changed from Whakatane Christmas motocross now called Summercross .550 entries last year ,huge 2 days of MX

Race tracks are an important matter to me at the moment; all I want in my later years is to ride on some great tracks. I WILL get to ride at Glen Helen in SoCal in the next year or so and maybe with my younger Bro that rides VMX in England.
But mainly I will build my own track here in Victoria; I have just been advised that I can claim all my Super so I am now actively searching for land. I will build a track that is safe & fun, one that can be used year-round; is not affected by heavy rain and has dust control.
I have been involved with building many MX tracks over the years, aswell as riding on some horrors, I will build a great track that I hope you all will love riding on.
-
Carlsbad, the Citadel, Hawkestone Park and any of those green pasture tracks in NZ 8).
Carlsbad would be the last track that I'd want to ride again.
-
OOPS Typo Christmas Hills , Victoria if they emptied the water. Hey Rosco the track is NOT under the dams water
-
can we have 4 meets in 2 weeks again in NZ....we'll bring the pre85 outfits..I promise!

You gaurantee you will bring them we gaurantee we will put on 4 events in 2 weeks

Righto...... there's a challenge then!!
If the road toad boys can di it every year I can't see why we can't have a crack.
Leave it with me.
Would Taupo be on the list TM?
-
Rosco and Tim Re Christmas Hills FYI I jumped the fence at Sugarloaf dam a couple of years back when the drought was on. I managed to find where the track was but sadly all features have been removed by MMBW, inundation and time. If you squinted though and used your imagination the memories came flooding back. J

Good onya Vaughn , yep Taupo would be a contender along with hopfully Whakatane, Fielding and maybe Auckland or Wanganui :)
-
OK I'll work on the logistics-shall we aim for this time next year.
Prob only get 6 - to 10 that would do eh?
I 'll go for big twins but might get a couple of 500 singles in the mix.
We'll leave the pre90s till the year after.
-
My daytime tracks in SoCal were Indian Dunes, De Anza, Saddleback Park, Escape Country and Carlsbad - would love to race any of them again. Tried to qualify at Unadilla and broke the bike badly, but loved the track - these days unfortunately it is just not the same. Didn't race Oz at all so can't comment, but visited a few tracks way over there and Sittendorf, Lommel, Hawkstone, Farleigh Castle, Va;kenswaard and Maggoria are tracks I would have loved to have raced.
-

I was lucky to race there in the 90's, it would have to be one of the most enjoyable tracks i have ever ridden. i belted around there on my 74 XR75 for hours on the Saturday prior to Sunday races, raced Sunday in the juniors and missed my 2nd place trophy presentation as i was still cutting laps afterwards:)
Dad had to collect my sash:)
Wicked track, would have to come a close 2nd to Barrabool:)
-
Yeah nada, Mortlake was a great natural terrain track. I raced there many times in the 70's and also rode a 79 CCM there at a meeting in the 90's. It was the only track I could get the CCM with it's 3 speed box flat out in top. I raced many times at Barrabool in the 70's 80's and 90's but the best I ever saw it was when it was prepared for the first Thumper Nat's meeting there in about 96?
A real fun track in the 70's was in the centre of the roadrace track at Mac Park Mt Gambier, it always started off as smooth as a bowling green and always ended with bike swallowing woops in the bottomless sand.
Wallan, Amaroo, Atajara Park were all great tracks to race on but my favourite track to race on was Christmas Hills.
Stan.

I must say, I have only heard raving reviews about Xmas Hills!!! its a shame its not around still.
I have fond memories of being perched in the front of the car listening to the old man and often one of his mates raving about the old tracks. I must say I do miss those days, and thanks to the VMX scene I saw a lot of this wonderful country.
I was in ore when i saw the track layout of the Aussie Titles in SA (Barossa Valley) I think 1995-96, my memory is slightly hazy on the exact year! im sure someone will correct me.! but, that was a magical track.
It had undulation and fantastic natural terrain table top through a creek bed, amazing. Jason Dunstall won the Pre 75 250 class and was still at his peak in those days on a modern bike. He was whipping the Elsinore over the table top, i still have the photos somewhere:)
The club put on a fantastic show afterwards at one of the wineries :)

It was indeed a great track at Tanunda in '95. That was the last motocross Nats I rode so it has some sentimentality. I tweaked my knee coming out of the creek in pre 70 moto 2 and the knee still gives me shit to this day....four operations later and a replacement coming soon. I remember the banquet in the big marquee and getting on the piss with Alby Iskra and Mick Murnane later in town. I recall there were two overseas racers....Rick Doughty riding the then late GE's bikes and Kurt Gustaffson from Sweden on his genuine GP Monark pre 65er.
-
Hey Firko, funny you say last Nats you rode. It was my first and talked into by Mick Murnane. I will never forget it as I broke my coxick bone in that creek. Yep broken ass. Had a local anesetic at the doctors on Sunday morn and had all worn off by lunch. Won't ever forget that drive home to Melbourne...I blamed the bar at the back of seat on the tm125.

Forgive me if im wrong, but i do believe you had a very original little Husqvarna 125 present there aswell, i remember the old man drewling over it at the hotel?? im not sure if you rode it or not:):):)
-
That year my cz 400, my rider Mick Moran from Colac got 2rd overall in the Australian Titles, I kepted fixing it all weekend, my restored cotton wouldn`t run so it was parked and concentated on the 400, great weekend.

Youre forgiven ;D.I've never owned a 125 Husky..I rode my 350 Maico in pre 70 and GE's YZ360A in pre 75 500 but opted not to ride the YZ after practice as Doughty wanted to ride it. That suited me as one bike per meeting was about my fitness level. ::)
-
Farliegh Castle
-
Brad Lewis owned that Husqvarna 125
-
Gee..what a suprise...none of you east of the rabbit proof fence want to come and ride with us on the west side of the island..!! come on ...bring your sand tyres and get over here.. ;D
-
OK Brian.....Manjimup ;D
