Title: Franken fourstroke bike YZ/XR500
Post by: head on June 24, 2012, 08:27:54 pm
Need to sell a bike, so the Hybrid four stroke has got to go. Pictures are better than words.
YZ250L Modified chassis to take a XL500S motor. Lots of good bits fitted when I built bike.
Renthal fat bars, cartridge emulators, .48 fork springs, rear shock modified with modern piston and valving, stiffer shock spring, new linkage,  swing arm and steering head bearings. Custom stainless exhaust, new oversize valves, new springs with titanium retainers, new valve guides, new cam chain, new megacycle cam, new bottom end, all engine bearings replaced, new piston and rod was fitted. (modern short skirt type) Flywheel lightened, counter balancers removed. New plastics, new seat foam and cover. Wheels are YZ250J as is tank and seat. Wheels could do with new spokes. Dellorto 38mm carby. YZ air filter. Titanium foot pegs.

Bike Vibrates, but is fast. Bars are rubber mounted. Bike hooks up really well and is nearly always first off the start to the first corner.
If you are after something different for Pre 85 or Four stroke racing this could be bike for you.
Motor has had a lot of money spent on it. It is way lighter than a TT or XR counter part. Wheels let it down a little as they need new spokes. Bike is ready to race as is and is very competitive.
Asking $2700

Yes I was thinking that last night.  A lot of bike and workmanship for not much money really.

If it had an electric start?  I would be out gathering flowers and jewllery for the minister finnance.

I'm a bit tempted myself Paul .. but after riding my HL look a like on the weekend I probably don't need it.

You should buy it mate and we can bang handlebars together (on account they will be higher than those on the CZ  ;D).

No need for an electric start. These motors start like clockwork.... with the right procedure :)

A couple of options here Paul.

1. You forget about the new kitchen or whatever it was you said you were doing at home and buy this bike and store it at my place, or

2. I buy the bike and tell my wife that you did and I'm doing you a favour by letting you keep it at my place.

Either way works for me  ;D

What did you need to modify with the frame.  Looks like the motor was made for the frame.

Had to change front twin down tube to single. Remove cradle, alter backbone. Was not an easy conversion.

Thanks Neil.  And Sorry Ted but I need to buy this bike so Paul and I can bang handlebars together  ;D

But to be honest it sounds like the 2nd buyer checking it out on Monday will take it as he knows the bike apparently but that's okay.

Now now Ted .. no need to resort to that  ;D

I was hoping to pick it up at CD9 along with the others but maybe I would be better off paying you to "race prep" the XR  ;D
