Title: kx 500 NOT SURE OF YEAR HAS DRUM BRAKES
Post by: Freakshow on May 21, 2012, 02:15:24 pm
Someone can probally shed more light on this one.  not sure what model it is or what year other than its an air cooled 500 with druym brakes...

Motors locked up but have no idea why, plastice broken or missing but a good core progect i will never get too.

what are these jobbies worth and who interested in loosing some arms or teeth trying to see if they can ride one.

NAh dont want one, trying to get rid of all the projects and this is one.   Reckon it only owes me $1500 so at your $5000 there is a lot of coin AKA $3500 for some to put towards making this a sweet ride !

Already has the pre 85 front end drum brake mod !

Quick before i change my mind  :D

$300 to any of the 3 east coast capital depots !

What are bits like to source for these KX 500's by way of availability and cost? . I have the opportunity to score one for a carton of Bundy cans but don't want to spend years chasing parts.

Thanks.

like most KX's, the term rocking horse poo comes to mind when trying to find parts.  At least you can get a GMC pipe and Nightmare plastics. Some mechanical 83 and 84 parts are interchangeable but not many. Rod kits, gaskets, clutch plates and pistons are generally available

1. It will cost you all of the $3500 and more to get that bike up and going to anything like John & Teds bikes.

2. Disc front end is legal for Pre85.

3. 83/84 Engine parts are not readily available. Adapting late model parts is possible and is what most do. If you have gearbox issues, good luck!

4. Aside from basic engine parts and the front suspension, nothing else is interchangeable.

Fail assumption 297 ---  what it owes me and what id sell it for are 2 differant things re read it.

Maybe you need to ask the right questions ? hence the PM.  Also free to pick up and just queitly i doubt you would get it commercially to Qld for less than $300.

Do i have to restore it for you as well ?  jeeze.....  your a hard bunch to please.  thats a whole bike for less than the cost of a pipe or a rear shock.......  hello  ::)

Dude I was only trying to explain where Ted got the figure.

Maybe you should have a look at what you typed. I'll quote it again;

"Reckon it only owes me $1500 so at your $5000 there is a lot of coin AKA $3500 for some to put towards making this a sweet ride !" $1,500 + $3,500 = $5,000 You mention no other figure so...go figure  ;D

As both myself and Ted live in Sydney the $300 figure also needs to be accounted for. I am not saying that it's an inflated price. I got a bike moved from Brisbane to Sydney for the same though.

Cheers
Shaun

Carting before the horse  ::) As Shaun said, I quite obviously assumed that it owes you $1500 and freight was $300, then you didn`t mention a selling price so what am i to assume. I asked you a very simple question being How much do you want for it ? I don`t make offers. Once again, put up how much you want for it and if it`s viable i will take it off your hands. Your call

That doesn't change the fact that it's a shitbox and needs thousands spent on it to make into a good race bike..

Okay everyone .. step away from your keyboards, take a walk around outside and breath a little .... sheeesh

But I've got a message for Ted though .. mate you are not allowed to buy this bike if it means my little XR200 loses it's place under the tarp  ;D  ;D

So its a Shitbox of 90% of a bike..... doenst change the fact that you cant ride a pipe and a shock very far does it ?

like i said i couldnt even tell you what the green thing is.  i just work in the normal world, unless it has a yamaha sticker on it any else ios a shit box no matter how fancy a pipe you fit on it ;D

Paul, Dont need to sell bike hence no price up.  But if someone is chasing one and can bother to offer around the mark happy to be rid of it as im never going to do jack shit with it and id like some room.   After the nats im going to make time for a garage re-jigg and serious moveo n some of these projects and bikes i keep half arsed putting out there for sale.  Been saying that for 2 years but this time its gotta happen  :o

Now it`s don`t need to sell hence no price up

Well just what did you mean in your opening blab " Whos interested in losing arms and teeth trying to ride one "

Man up, put a price on it. Sure you will get abused by some, but you may just sell it. If not , do like the rest of us do and keep it.

Three people that own one of them have all shown interest / commented on it . They all would be interested in it at the right price.

If you want an offer, mine is $10.00.....work me up from there.Bearing in mind it will cost me $300 to get it here and i will only rat bits off it when need be , if at all. I will definitely not restore it.

Cheers Ted
