You're mad!
-
Nasty Brute Nathan ;D Retract that and tell everyone how Yamaha engines make great sidecar power plants and I will give you about two thirds of an electric start AT125 (Has no wheels .plastic covers, pipe or seat covering but good metal seat base) Cheers bugger Tim
-
Who said Mad was a bad thing? ;)
Of course Yamaha engines are excellent for sidecars - they're excellent for everything, including minding the kids, adding flavour to exotic meals, and reducing the effects of Climate Change.
-
Crikey that was very very sucky ::) I accept ;)Pick up the 125 when you can... ::) (Sidecars/SL70s hint)
-
Funny, the Boss and I were discussing your madness just before I posted... We agreed that - like most VMX types - you are "good mad". Wasn't trying to suck up at all... :o
Sure you don't want the DT125 wheels for your AT1?
Er... Sidecars. Weren't we supposed to be talking about sidecars?
-
Making an SL70 Sidecar........... of course ::)
-
Cant wait to see the sl sidecar Tim ;D
-
I once made a side car out of one and a half push bikes. (Does that count?)
Passenger and rider both pedaled, worked a treat til it broke in half. Thank F I was riding that day!

who was doing who to get this side car lot there own sub board ?
next thing it will be rally car drivers in here :o

Hey Tim,
Tell us about your Bathurst exploits on the triple.I'm assuming that was before The Chase.Airbourne over the last hump at 150mph!!! Apparently Peter Campbell is restoring the 'Flying Bedsted'* did you ever see that piece of insanity?
* The Flying Bedsted as it became known was a 'sidecar' in name only was similar to a Morgan(2 wheels at the front) the insane thing about the Bedsted was the swinger sat right at the very front between the wheels,so if you were not holding on when the brakes were applied .........
-
Was that the Mini powered thing? I (along with a few others, thanks to another forum member) am in possession of a DVD which includes some circuit sidecar stuff from the late 1960s or early 70s.
There's one that looks like a Mini special but with only one rear wheel - and the crew sit in it, next to each other. The commentary describes it as "controversial"...
-
Lozza I will get back later about Bathurst Suffice to say it was before the wossie chase and run offs and kitty litter and all that fairy shit. Nathan they are called Cyclecars. I think Jim Scarsbrooks Australian Motorcycle Heritage Books should cover those " different " Machines. Cheers
-
Yes yes as I thought Tim,pre everything. ;D
I don't think the Bedstead had a mini engine I think it might have had a Vincent 1000,might have had it at one stage.I'll try and dig up the article.Frightening just to look at.
Tim or Walter you got any links to engine companies(besides Zabel) two stroke of course.Preferablytwins 800-1000cc range?
Cheers
-
Lozza the giant two stroke twins were banned from the world title scene some years back. Much the pity. >:(
-
And it is awesome !!!!! Folan 1000cc two stroke engine I believe Walter? Can you give any specs or maybe post a photo please? ;) Tim

Just read The VMX Commissioners recommendations for VMX sidecars , Being that Left hand and Right Hand outfits be able to race together as was the case in past days. Excellent work ;). Strange that it is now not permitted for any era... must be the huge fields of LH/RH sidecars causing panic and distress to all??????????. MA please to review this strange rule for all eras .Thank you. Tim.

now this is a topic i like!. Walter was advertising a EML jumbo outfit in just bikes a month or 2 ago. that is a big 2 stroke twin.
-

Trevor (Crazy) Anthony in Vic had one of these back in late 80's close to 1000cc 2 stoke twin (i think they run RM465 suzuki pistons?) big and heavy but lots of power, but not very tractable more suited to dirt/grass track.
the light weights with CR500 or KX500 engines were the go !
-
Hi Walter Glad to hear you have the jumbo. I swung for Bernard Mueller back in about 82/83 for a short time and then Grant Dargue and i remember racing against you (but not successfully).
as i remember of that era Bergemier and Stewart were the ones to beat. That 750 weslake of bergy's was something else. i rode with Rob duke in the chair when bernard went to Europe at the same time you did, any idea what happened to Bernard's 2 KTM540 EML's (1986 & 87 models)?
-
:o :o There is a short DVD around, with Dave Moleneux describing how he and his swinger went over backwards at 145 mph during practice for the ' 06 Isle of Man. Air under the chair. Shots in the background of the outfit burning like a tanker while Dave jokes about the experience and all the noise. You blokes really are good Mad, but how do you stop those big balls from choking the Mikunis ??

In 78 I was luck enough to see the Dutch round of the GP series including the sidecars.I think then most of them were Z900 and such powered outfits.Hmmm there's a nice spot on the fence that nobody wants, after the first lap I could see why.The crowd was very happy with the Dutch OK team doing very well IIRC. Fantastic to watch, but geez they dig some furrows ;D
T250 I wish I could find the article where Alan Cathcart swung on an LCR outfit,he had arm pump so bad the mechanics had to prise his hand off ;D

Go to the events board and answer the poll Question if you like ? Please everybody lets gauge where it is at. Do we have the awesome MX machines out and breathing fire, life and muscle, or do they get just join the scrap for China never to be seen or heard in anger again?
