I've posted about these guys before, but it beats me how they do this stuff. Skillz, balance and a healthy disregard for gravel rash?

There are no cops in that town, I would like to see them on the race track using their talent.
-
Fu#king wankers, awful fu#king sound track. That stuff's an insult to anyone who's been busted for changing lanes without indicating or pinged for having an obscured # plate on their enduro bike. These dickweeds have no rego, no helmets and break every rule in the book and seem to get away with it.

Great talent,
It urks me that i turned up at menia with my registered Modern enduro on the trailer for a ride and was told by the police to stay out and that it was queens land by the officer (i think he meant crown land). But these guys seem to get away with this on the street.

I have read some where that a lot of the bikes are stolen which may explain the disregard for them they however are good riders but the videos I have seen they seem to be always going flatout it would be more impressive if they were going really slow.
That is when you know some one is good when they can go really slow not just holding on using the power and speed to keep the bike there.
I can go forever on my mountain bike what ever speed and do one handers no drama but when it comes to my motorbikes I just don't want to flip and bugger them which these guys don't seem to worry about.
I seen a bloke when I was last riding my 360 in the bush on a ktm 250 going flatout no foot wear no helmet or shirt just shorts on the road absolutely mental.
-
I didn't actually see any bikes harmed in the making of this movie!! ??? Yeah they may be breaking some laws and have total disregard for their safety but didn't Evil Kenivel? Seth Enslow? Robbie Madison? and most of us would say their feats were sheer brilliance. The only emotion this vid sparks in me is jealousy!! :'( If i could wheelie that looooooooooooong and stable damn happy with myself too!!!! :P ;D
-
I'd be seriously pissed off if I lived in wherever the hell that is, and payed my taxes so a local police department could sit around and let these deadshits do whatever they wanted.
-
Do the have Gyros hooked to their front wheels? That used the be the "Wheelie King's" (Doug K) trick. The front wheels never stop spinning no matter how long the wheelie is.
???

Ballarat Rovers Rider Rod Sizeland wheelied around monza park during the lunch break and the same at a indoor track event at Avalon back in the early 90s and he used a motor on the front wheel (even though he could have done it without one) because of the slow speed and the long period of time it took.Rod Sizeland is the wheelie King and i know thats a big call but anyone in Ballarat will tell you he is the best.

Hardex, your right, Rod is the best i've seen. (nice sticker on the bash plate and pic of his minder in the background of the first shot ;D)

The H6/360 Montessa was made for this stuff.
5 mph mono's no probs.
60 mph mono's just as easy.
I have the tickets to prove it ;D
I have never had another bike that would pop up as easy as the monty.
-
what does the bash-plate sticker say? My eyes cannot discern it..
-
Hi Stan. I was just a one of Rods Groupies ;D Mike52 The Monty may well be a great wheelie bike but you still need to know how to do it properly and Rod can wheelie anything all day.Lukeb1961 the sticker is Hard On dirt bikes that me and Greg flood owned back in the day.

I once got the front wheel of my DT 400 about a foot in the air while going over a railway line.
The copper on a bike going in the opposite direction was non too pleased.
He let me off with a warning as I was on L plates,
but not before he ripped me a new one.

+1 on Firko's assessment. Nothing more than oxygen thieves with lots of practice on what will either be stolen or drug money funded. They get away with it because, largely, the cops have given up, i mean how would you stop them? Shoot them? Run over them? Chase them til they run out of fuel? As far as going to the track, the would be too busy sleeping in after the night befores activities to bother.
Rant over, back to Jim Beam.

I admire their skill , and it takes skill and balls to wheelie that long at that speed . Jeez some of you blokes are hard ::) we used to do it all the time as kids (allbeit no where near as well as our mates on the video )
Why does everyone assume the bikes are stolen or bought with drug money ::) because the young fellas are black ? :o
They have a talent and are enjoying life to the full ;D sure their probably a pain in arse to other road users , but we were to, when we were young .
Would prefer they wore helmets ::) but at the end of the day there out there enjoying themselves , IF the bikes are stolen then thats not cool but if there (bought as many want to believe ) with drug money then at least their not buying guns ;)
I really dont like 90% of young people i meet today ::) but i can admire skills especially when shown on a motorcycle :D

I'm with you Bill. I only posted this to highlight their amazing skills. Sure there are all sorts of social commentary we could make, but I am in awe of their abilities. How the fork they do that I have no idea. Back in my day I was pretty good at wheelies - pretty much as far as I wanted on my old TT500s and what not. And while some have found fault with these guys doing it on the public street (and I recognise what's being said), I got my jollies wheelieing everywhere and anywhere. Nothing quite like cruising down the highway on the backwheel in my book. Sadly the only way I'd get the front wheel up nowadays would be if I hit a bump while out of control.
All of that aside though, there's no need for the racial slurs. Hey, in private I'm happy to make racial observations and cast shit too, but let's not have it on OzVMX. So just drop that part of it. People want me to moderate tougher, that's what ya got.
-
Sorry, but I can't admire anyone who does dumb shit like that. Talented or not.
They're pissing everyone else off and giving all motorcyclists a bad name. That includes you and me.
And if the worst happens and they do get run over, imagine what the poor sod driving the car/truck would be going through for the rest of his life after seeing that.
I've seen the results of a guy falling off with a helmet and it ain't pretty.
-
Damd hard to do and with throttle and brake control that these guy's seem to have, they could this at what ever speed they wanted l would expect, yeah be good see them in a controled enviroment with gear on, but they where probably bought up to not no any better.....
Get em all together and make a show of it and they'de probably make a motza..

Brings back memories of a Bloke back in late 70's who had a Honda motorsport 250 that would wheelie every where ( on public roads ... Motorways . Pretty sure they made a home made movie back then - even more Impressive he would do a Mx event on the back wheel.
This stuff is not new by any mean's as I have pointed out above .....
Common own up I bet at some stage we have all done a mono on the public road ;)
Bazza what was his name ????? Horrie - Horris

Poser!
Standing on the seat is even more impressive, no back brake available, all throttle control.
I'm impressed with their ability and it's really just a sign of the times, thumbing their nose at society's rules and regulations, never happened in our day. ;) ;D
-
Horrie (blaire harrison) and his side kick Terry Meeks.
-
Not bad Hoony. Extra points if you can still do that! ;D
-
Very nice Hoony
-
I should add, way back when, I thought I was pretty good doing a mono until I was egg'd on to do one while leaving a party with a few Nitro's in the tank and turned it over in front of everyone without gloves or a helmet on, never done it on request since.
Tore the knee's out of my new jean's and took a lot of bark off both my hands.
I'm sure we've all had at least one "DOH" momment.
-
Nice one, Hoony!
A mate of mine used to wheelie his XR500 for miles kneeling on the seat.
One day the throttle cable started to fray and stuck............ it was yucky........... :-\
-
Yep, we all have plenty of those stories. Mate of mine looped out his Katana 1100 wearing just T-shirt and shorts, nice road rash up his back and thighs. Another turned over his KZ750 in the carpark of the local after a few too many raspberries. I was always careful to wear all the gear but still managed a good thumb dislocation when I lost my IT175 in 4th along a gravel road. Those things have a near vertical balance point and I never knew about using the rear brake... :'(
-
Was 16 yrs old on a twinshock XR200 ::) and had a reputation as a bit of a gun at wheelies .
one mid summer evening was showwing off to a group of girls who were in a park by wheelying up and down the road parralell to the park .
parked up and talking to the girls decided to do a few more ::) now only wearing a T shirt and no helmet ::) came wheelying past the cheerleaders ;D with the thing tapped out in 3rd gear when for some reason i still dont know i just hooked 4th with out backing off :o
The thing looped out that bloody quick i didn't know what the fork had happened :-[ I lost bark all over me body , a reasonable amount of hair , about a pint of blood ::)
The XR came off even worse , trashed the tank , seat , rear gaurd, bars and controls and the thing must have carried on down the road on the mag cover cos it ground it all away and a fair bit of the coils inside :(
Fortunatley the girls took pity on me and visited me in hospital ;D and im still in touch with a couple of them to this day :)
-
Stan and I didn`t on a h6 360 montesa with me swingin on the back in ballarat, lucky I had a lot of faith in stans ability, but I was glad to get off, we when up the bitchem road on the back wheel down a hill and up the hill, main back roads, I am not sure how fast we where going, I just hung on.
-
guilty as charged 9pm main street port macquarie around 1974 full lenght of street wheel stand rl250 3rd gear put it down to go around corner then around the block back to in front of the picture theatre , then a bloke came outa the crowd ( a mate of some friends from maroubra) 'twisso' and gave it a spin , knees out scraping the pegs , turned out to be a road racer from sydney big night in the main drag
-
I had a couple of sherbets at a mates place after work one day when I was 17 and decided that doing wheelies with both hands was a bit easy so as I rode away from his place I pulled her up only holding on with my right hand. Well I reckon I went only about 3 feet before I was skating down the road mixed up with the bike.
Another one was at a trial wearing the usual 1976 trials gear (rubber boots, stubby shorts and a big hat). There was a dirt road past the trials site and of course the usual young women so I couldn't resist doing a trademark wheelie up the road in 5th gear. Trouble was I looked at the women as I went past and went over the balance point. Don't know why but I tried to save myself by hitting the ground running at 60 kays. I still have the scar on my right knee 35 years later

Now that's opened up a can of worms.
Sorry for the Hijack, maybe we need whole new topic.
What is your biggest " Drongo " momment?
P.S. Drongo was race horse that never won a race.
-
maybe they could be described as moments of reflection whilst your laying there usually bent and perhaps bleeding where we reflect on the moments leading up to a climax of undecision or lack of proper posture and thoughtless control of what would seem a weapon of somewhat capability to do mass destruction.
other than that your probably right
its a hard one decscribing the exact feeling you have after the event that caused you sooo much pain and anguish and so many others laughter and jest :D :D :D :D ;) not to mention the debriefing
more events please , you know youve all got em, and if you dont dob your mates in ;D
-
Now I know we've gone off on a tangent but that's the beauty of this interwebs stuff. So, yep let's hear all those stories - best wheelie, biggest 'moment', dumbest thing you ever did on a bike, biggest scar, whatever... Even better if you have the pics to illustrate it! No being shy, this is your chance to impress the Hell out of all the chicks that aren't reading this but should be.
I started early. Ripping round and round my house in the burbs on my first full sized bike, a TS100, when I see some girls from school riding past. Pinned it to show how well I could slide into the driveway and through the carport but a slight miscalculation (read lost it) and bang. Down with a broken toe... Yow!
-
Yeah Graeme I've got one.
It was a drizzley Saturday afternoon in sunny Ballarat and a mate and I were at a bit of a loss as what to do so we decided to knock off a bottle of Finke port that I had had for a while. Anyway as you do after about 3/4's of it we would get my 360 Bully fired up. It wouldn't fire up so I got my mate to give me a push and sure enough it sprang into life as I rode down my paddock. I turned around and pulled a ripper wheelie up the paddock in 2nd,3rd,4th before the fuel ran out (read forgot to turn the taps back on after it was loaded up) anyway it looped in the biggest possible way and end for ended up the paddock with me cartwheeling after it with tee shirt, shorts, thongs, and no helmet on. The port seemed to numb the pain untill I saw my lovely Bultaco wrecked. Even the forks were bent forwards and everything else smashed.
Amazingly enough that 360 ended up on the cover of VMX #5 after a lot of work.
Stan.

LEARN TO WHEELIE
This book is a piece of history. It shows you how to wheelie in very basic steps. Most of the action photos are taken on a Hodaka Ace 90, so if you’re a fan of those great old trail bikes, this is a bonus. I located this book from 1970 in the bottom of a box that had been sealed since the mid-70s. How it survived is amazing. So I’m making it available in disc form for $10 including mailing anywhere in the US. The disc is in pdf format, so you can print out any or all pages easily.
