Hmm I think that was the year I kicked off the WR500 as a hopeless joke of a motorcycle and bought WR250 .... I think that Frankenbike is step backward.

Sprung for a 225/250 lb rider? They bred them big over in the US of A.
Cheers, Grahame

I had a trick 92 WR250 , I think that was about my peak , I won more big races on that bike than any others , The main thing on that bike when I lined up I knew if I didn't win I just wasn't twisting the wire enough.

A mate had a WR500 I rode it a bit, compaired to a CR or KX 500 they were a bit behind the times. I think Yamaha were just using up old stock. They didn't have a wide ratio gearbox like the 200 and 250, they were basicly the same YZ490 motor from the early 80s. I still have a 92 WR250. I get it out the bush a few times a year, all the boys on the new 450 hang shit on it, being a ratty looking old bike, but she still keeps up and does what it has to.

there was a mint WR250 came up the other day and I wanted it bad... awesome bike, I had 3 of them when I was at my fastest, they never broke unlike RMXs and KDXs and just did everything well. WR500 was not a patch on the YZ490s I had but they were all cranky beasts compared to a CR500. WR500 had no bottom end, plenty of mid range but would not rev out which made it a pile in the whoops. Robbie Twyerold worked over my motor which made it much better, but nowhere as good as a CR500 or RM500 for that matter.
