Is it a real 74 RH motor?
Eng # 10402
-
Maybe I wasn't paying attention or maybe time has blurred my memory but I seem to remember Andy doing most of his 250 class winning on a TM powered TM. I'm not doubting that Andy owned and raced this RH engined bike but it's a newie on me.
Stumpy? Walter? am I right or wrong?

should the engine number have a rh in front off the numbers

Yes it should have RH250-10402 ..but it does look like an RH engine and the numbers are right.
By those numbers it's a '75 motor but no difference to '74.

Yes Firko i only saw him on TM engined TM's but that was a long time ago, maybe this bike was near the end of his vintage racing days.

Firko
Maybe you could buy this and mount the engine in a Maico frame? That would be a cool pre 75 racer.
-
Jeeezus Slakey...I've done some dumb engine swaps over the years, who could forget the XL Honda powered Montesa King Scorpion that I sold you? but that one would top 'em all. There's only one place an RH engine should go .......in an RH frame (or maybe a Cheney Suzuki frame, to be a bit different and close to politically correct).
For what it's worth, the Suzuki motor probably won't fit....the offset exhaust would be blocked by the front downtube. It needs a single downtube frame....maybe a King Scorpion Monty ;D ;D

JohnnyO...Why is it badged as a 250 and not sancasted ??
thanks A

The last 2 pics show another TM250 that is a TM250 Alison. Don't know why those pics are included in the RH/TM listing :-\

Alison the RH250 part of the engine # will be sand cast in the case if it is an RH engine
-
Thanks for confirming..thats the magic photo on the sellers listing I was looking for... :P
cheers A

Alison that 2nd last pic of the ID plate riveted to the case is a TM engine i believe as i can see the oil injection line, the engine number on an RH is cast into the case below the front sprocket.
Maybe ask Rosco for a close up pic of it?

As I have said in another post...I can remember being on the starting line at Ravo many years ago at a Nats ...along side was 211 and next to him was A.C..... they were having a discussion about the RH motor in the TM at the time........that same meeting is the cover shot on VMX 1 (tho not actually numbered 1)....so that was 1998 and the RH is in it then....

You're right Brian...I just had a look at some old photos from that meeting at Ravo and vaguely remember Ray Ryan pointing out the RH motor to me. I remember doing a piece on Andy for ADB in the mid 90's and Andy gave me a guided tour of his bikes (250 and 400) and remember how stock they actually were. The TM250 was most definitely all TM. It even had those dreaded TS185 shocks ;D.

You're right Brian...I just had a look at some old photos from that meeting at Ravo and vaguely remember Ray Ryan pointing out the RH motor to me. To my knowledge that was the first time Andy raced vintage outside of S.A. and boy didn't he let us know he's arrived! By coincidence it was the last time the previous "king" Ronny Dinsdale rode for a long time so it was kind of "the king is dead..long live the (new) king"...my apologies to Willian Shakespeare.
I raced against Andy in '94 at the Qld Cherribah nats and he was TM mounted then and i ended up winning the title.. might have been different if the RH motor was in his bike ;)

That's it, Iremember now, Cherabah was where I interviewed Andy for the ADB piece. You're one of the very few who ever beat Andy John, quite an achievement mate ;)
How good were both of the Cherabah Nats? I reckon they were right up there as two of the best race meetings, vintage or otherwise that I ever attended.

Thanks Firko.. I only did the first Cheribah and it was a great meeting and a good track, i think there were about 150 entries and the classes were just pre '75 and earlier back then so that's good numbers.

What were you racing back then John .

Did someone buy this?I think the other stuff sold.I think we'll be kicking ourselves about not grabbing this stuff when it came up for auction in years to come.I think the term Legend is over used these days but I reckon AC was the real deal and it would be great to have one of his bikes in the shed or on the track.Sad reflection on the GFC and how things have tightened up a bit financially. :-\
-
I think the provenance is kosher on the RH/TM but I'm a bit iffy about any of that other stuff being Andy's actual race tackle. They look too well used to be the bikes I saw Andy ride.
-
I would have thought 3k just for a RH would be worth it. Money is getting tighter
-
Alison did you grab the rh / tm ?
