Is it any wonder that there's been a mass exodus from the forum? The real reason for this forums very existence has been forgotten by the political science professors and bar room economists over on the carbon tax thread. The last time I looked the forum was called OZVMX not Global Warming Tragics.Com.

If it wasn't for the Classic Dirt Track boys and their great photo thread this forum would be almost totally devoid of anything of any interest to do with old dirt bikes. Jeez ::)

KTM or Maico, I don't know. The Grips look firm, but soft. I am sure she would handle well in the rough, just a guess with out checking out her rear end setup.

This forum went off track months ago and most of the old school motocross guys moved on and what you have now is the result.
Any time someone puts up some real VMX content it gets buried in shit...

Race pants? Ummm, OK, go for it. But can you get ummm a proper model to show them off? Someone err younger and more curvy, perhaps even female?

Now, without meaning to piss in Jason's pocket, isn't that KX250 from East Coast Vintage gorgeous? Man I love the look of those things.

Here it is again (or if you prefer, look at the pic full size: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v234/jpw3578/Vintage%20Motorcross/1979%20KX250%20Fox%20Air/DSC07056.jpg)

hell what about another good 'real HL500' topic, we can usually milk that out for 15 or 20 pages.

OR how about roach of the month, my magnificent low millage YZ250A that will be going on the slab next year when I return to NZ to lead my people.

There are thirty bike related threads on this forum. In those thirty threads are hundreds of bike related topics. There is one general discussion thread.  General discussion is usually for any off topic subjects that us motorcyclists are interested in.  In the hundreds of topics in the general discussion there is one about carbon tax.  Obviously it has some interest to people, as it has run for twenty odd pages.

I don't understand why the angst over one thread amongst hundreds.  It is to some degree still a free country and you can avoid that one thread.  Reading it and then wining about it doesn't contribute to the forum.  Go out to the shed take pictures of your bike junk and start a bike junk in shed thread or something.

As for soft porn, it lowers the forum further and I now have to make sure my kids aren't on my lap when I'm on here.  Those who complain the forum is going downhill may actually be oiling the wheels of decline.

If you were to look at the recent posts part of this forum anytime in the last week or so you'd see that about 80% of the topics were nothing to do with Vintage Motocross.
Myself and a lot of friends get on here to look and talk VMX... if we wanted to talk politics we'd get on a political forum.
I don't see Vital mx, MXtrax, Fullnoise or Mototalk forums cluttered with political and non bike related crap..

Bikes busy enough as it is, I am back in NZ next year for maybe good and really keen to get the spanners out. I have the shits with having to travel and hour across Tokyo to get some shop time.

I figured between Mikes obvious panel skills and mine with lathe and mill we will be able to double production.

Listen here Slakewell .. I undertand you are a popular contributor on this forum but I don't know you from a bar of soap, in fact I probably walked past you a dozen or more times at CD8 and didn't have a clue who you were, however I have come to admire your work .. your avatar and your pictures are second to none.

So please, on behalf of those of us that are are comfortable with ourselves, our sexuality, understand that it takes all types to make the world go around, realise that forums are good fun, are a great source of advice, assistance and tips (and sometimes humour), please please please do not compromise your outstanding standards (eg pictures like miss stiff nipples a few pages back and your Avatar) just to suit someone elses small minded view on the world.

And as for the carbon tax saga .. I haven't read one single page of it.  Maybe those complaining can do the same.  If it's in general discussion and the title doesn't grab you then don't read it.  But if you make the mistake of opening a thread only to discover that it doesn't suit your view of the world or the forum, simply close it and move on.

Nuff said  ;D

In honour of your missing Avatar,I will now proceed to change mine to a more politically incorrect version.  Feel free to join me  ;)

This is a dynamic of this forum that fascinates me: the apparent compulsion to read every post in every thread, even the ones that irritate and/or bore the reader.
I mean when there's a thread about Carbon Tax, does anyone click on it thinking its going to be about Suzuki footpegs?

Ironically, I've copped grief in the past for being a bore by posting up "too much" info about old dirt bikes.

The forum is what you make it. Wanna talk about bikes? Then go ahead and do it!
The day you stop expecting people to entertain you, will be the day you suddenly realise how valuable the forums really can be.

Oh, and the curly pics don’t worry me at all, but spare a thought for the people who are using work computers. In the past, there have been images posted that could have resulted in disciplinary action at my work if anyone else had seen them/the net nanny had caught them.

I'm far from small minded and the avatars never bothered me, but when I pulled up a full page picture, I had to scroll quickly.  Some of us have the computer in the family room and have small kids hanging around.  It's not a big deal, but I thought I should mention it because it can get out of hand.  There has to be a line.

If you really need to be titillated outside of your bedroom there are websites for porn and you can get a decent dose of it. You can even download it to your phone.  Like those complaining about the carbon tax thread, I too come here for the bikes.

If it wasn't for the Classic Dirt Track boys and their great photo thread this forum would be almost totally devoid of anything of any interest to do with old dirt bikes. Jeez ::)
That's exactly right but most of the people left on here just don't get it ???
My God you guys bang on about things don't you :-[.

Don't you get it? Forums, and the internet generally, are the world's largest democracies.  Build a bridge, get over it. People vote by posting.

But even at the practical level forums need a certain volume of posts to be successful - too few and it's not worth visiting, too many and it is too hard to follow. I can point you to plenty of unsuccessful forums which are very very specialised with very little throughput. I think this forum has it about right.

Gee, how hard is it to read the thread title and make a decision to open it or not ::).

As others have said, its under the title of General Discussion not Go Fast Tips for '68 CZ's. There is no pretense of being VMX.

(I'll have to change my avatar - it is just too tame in this company ::))

I got a good laugh out of your avatar.

John, post some pictures of that Bultaco I sold you.

The carbon tax does affect us old bike nuts.  It could come down to selling a few of the collection to pay the bills.

It's in storage in brisbane at the moment mate but i did restore it and got Jim Pomeroy to sign the tank when he was here :)

I'm glad it went to a good home John.  There was one for sale at Nerang last year that was fully restored and had a Pomeroy signature on the tank. I thought it was yours at the time.  Out of all the bikes I sold I regret selling the MK9 370 Pursang the most.  That was a fun bike to ride.

When I was 14 I was belting around on a DT250a and I met a bloke with a 74 250 Pursang who gave me a ride of it.  I remember sitting on it idling and it had that distinctive bangda bangda sound that was so different to the ringading of my Yam. I took off on it like a shot out of a rocket and crapped myself when the corner came up too fast, but the Bully just took itself round the corner with the grace of a ballerina. I just went WOW, how good does this handle.  Apart from the time I jumped of my TY onto a SherpaT the only other bike that has impressed me so much is the new Husabergs.

I saw that one in nerang on ebay and was tempted to check it out at the time, he had a few nice ones.

What, you've never ridden one?  Spanish bikes have beautiful handling, in my opinion. When I was trials riding my TY I jumped onto the Sherpa T and it was night and day.  It made the TY feel like a heavy piece of crap. Felt sorry for Mick Andrews, but he was good enough to overcome the handicap I guess.  I had a 80's Montessa Cota that rode good as well.  Currently have a half restored Ossa Explorer that I must finish one day. Got way laid searching for a clutch pushrod for it. Took ten years to locate one so I never got back to it. I fell in love with one at Peter Stevens when I was 12.  I think it was the bronze paint job.

Before I bought the DT I had a new TY and this rich kid had a MAR Ossa and was keen to ride my TY.  I thought I had the better bike because Mick had switched to Yamaha. He handed it back and didn't say a word.  I can see why now.  Luckily at the time I didn't ride his Ossa.

John, before I rode the Maico last year, the Mk 8 was the most balanced bike I had ridden of that vintage (probably still ranks higher than all the post-81 bikes that I have ridden)

Too hard apparently. How about some respect for our site administrator???He started the carbon tax thread and why not ?Its a big issue.Where else would he start a discussion about it if he needed some opinions on it ?At the pub ? or the kindy playground?I think he was interested in the views of friends and VMX minded people.Thats his interest, his group ,so why not ask? He must have considered it worthwhile.ie. OUR OPINIONS worthwhile.
As MX250 already said in was under general discussion and its not as if fossil fuels, emissions and carbon tax aren't at all related to our sport. Some of you guys just want to keep your head in a VMX sandpit and forget everything else thats going on around you.One day you might just find that the Greens have gained such an influence that our politically incorrect pastime of VMX is nolonger allowed.
No one was holding a gun against your head to read or contribute to the thread , just like no one is holding one agianst me to read the Bultaco sub section .So I dont - whats the problem with you lot?

John,  that's Chris Richardson.  I remember watching him get 3rd in the Australian Championships at Mt Kembla in the late 60's when I was a young lad.  He still gets around at a smart pace, but mostly sticks with bitumen now and helps out with organisation of enduro events.

Gaz, the closest i can come to a 250 is the picure on the wall behind them. That was my 74 bike at Ravenswood.
John, the tank is a GP tank the same as used by Vic Allen in the 74 GP season.

Goof, that's Snake Gully, South Australia circa 1976. I think that was the year Mike Landman won the South Australian Championships at that venue.
