It's always a slow process getting a bike from the US but if the price is right it's all good. :)

ILL GIVE YOU THE BIG TIP, IT DONT TAKE 6 MONTHS TO GET A BIKE OUT THE USA - ID BE ONTO IT PRITY HARD............
-
It depends on who you use to ship the bike here. I waited close to 6 months a couple of times for bikes to arrive but it was shipped for a cheap
price so was worth the wait.

First of all let's get something straightened up - the implication the we are trying to sham someone on a bike needs to be squandered.
We are not freight forwarder's - we buy / restore / sell vintage MX bikes. We have a legitamite business that helps us with our transport from our location to you guys in AUS. We try to help with the process by offering a solution for many who do not have one.
If you have a better one - GREAT - we don't make a single penny on the transport.
I cannot control how slow or fast it goes once it leaves here. If you would like to discuss this with him I'll provide you his info AGAIN.........

in support of jason i import bikes.1st you have to have import paperslast lot took 6weeks the 2 previous import papers 9 weeks.you can NOT send bikes without paperwork.also have to work in with the bike transport co to move the bike within the usa-that can take upto 2wks ,they have put runs together.you then have get it on a container so unless you are sending a complete container of your own,you have to wait till a container is full no point sending half full or you end up paying more!then you have shipping time 4-6wks just to get here.then you have to wait to get the container off the wharf, then be in line to get unloaded, then aqis has to be booked ,so you are waiting on them, customs has to be booked, again waiting waiting.whoops aqis want something washed, you got it more waiting! realistily, unless all the moons and stars align and you are holding your tongue the right way minimum is 4mths if dotars is on the ball minimum 3mths if worried get a container no that the bike is in so you can track it.i recently sold a bike straight out of the usa ,told the guy the time frame a mth later he is angry cause his bike isnt her ???

I think you'll find it'll go for a lot less than that.. prices are down in the US compared to here.

Just to add to JohnnyO's post, I am also waiting for a bike I purchased from the US (from another seller to the one mentioned in this thread) that I purchased back in early March 2011. So around 4 months ago. It was scheduled to be here early July (being shipped via Schumacher Cargo Logistics) however I have just received an email stating it's been delayed until 17th July.
And I also shipped out a brand new Bayliner boat 2 years ago and it took close to 6 months to get here .. seemed to circumnavigate the globe (in a container) before finally getting here ... hence it's name "well travelled" ;D
I'm sure there is a fast way of getting them here but the "economy route" does seem to take some time unfortunately.

Johnny O is correct - the reserve is WAY less than that!

There are heap of freight options, the budget ones will usually be small outfits, filling a sea container or back of a car some place and they will buy a part container load (PCL) which is then turned into a full container by sharing the space with other people.....it takes a while to consolidate a container to your destination.
A bigger company like LinFox, MainFreight etc will have a bunch of local partners and 3PL who help to fill the container and it is much faster but costs a bit more as you need full insurance, security etc etc etc.
Finally a third party logistics company (3PL) like Panalpina has its own containers on regular routes and dispatches regardless of whether it is full or not and will use air and sea to maintain delivery schedules, and it costs accordingly.
The evil part is that container shipping rates are at about 2003 levels despite 10x increase in bunker fuel costs etc.... so the shipping company isn't getting rich off his 200 million investment. The real cost is insurance, security checks, bio security, port clearances and the massive bureaucracy Governments have placed around shipping.
-
Air Freight .... now if you have something valuable, then don't discount air freight .... sometimes with all costs included it is very close to sea freight providing you can have the shipment boxed.
If you call Qantas the soon to be fired bitch serving you will quote you full IATA rate which is calculated off a non discount first class ticket etc etc .... if you go to Khuene and Nagel, Panalpina or similar, get past the bitch they have on the counter and talk to one of their agents .... the you may be pleasantly surprised, usually airport customs and security is far cheaper as it is better set up for small consignments.
If you have to use an airline to ship try Emirates, they are run by two ex BA guys who want your business and are very flexible... on excess baggage everything

Just over $3000, didn't make reserve.

Just over $3000, didn't make reserve.
Markets just crazy at the moment...cant justife doing a rebuild or resto when these prices are so cheap here and offshore :P
-
Yeah good time to buy from the US.. guess that's why so many are doing just that :)
-
Gentlemen,
Just an update -the bike did not meet reserve - but we did sell to a buyer after the fact in the UK who missed the auction for $3,950. I was hoping with the rebuilt Fox Air Shocks that this bike would do a bit more - but again the market is tough right now. Kinda comes down to availability and how bad a buyer wants THAT particular bike. How many A5's are listed at any given time?
I do have a 78 KX250 A4 coming as well as the even harder to find 78 KX125 A4.........will post pics of those as they arrive / are completed.......
The big swap meet here in the US is this weekend at Mid Ohio so any US buying selling online will more than likely come to a halt as most are heading there to buy / sell.......probably a good time to be on eBay looking if there is something of interest.
-
$950 US total transport to any of the major ports in AUS - that's crating / ground transport / ocean freight / customs documentation - and insurance up to the full amount of the bike!!

I think your pricing is very good Jason, I'll seriously consider buying a bike from you, you looked after me when I've bought JT riding gear off you.

Hi
I'm waiting on a Suzuki RM370 I bought from East Coast Vintage MX back in late November, all going well should be here by the end of January. Once the bike was loaded on the ship it will take less then a month to get to Sydney and all up around 2 months for the whole purchase and delivery, but as I haven't received the bike yet that might change. I will post an update once the bike lands in Sydney.
I have found Jason from East Coast Vintage MX in the USA to be a decent person to deal with and helpful along the way.

JaseGP - was that the white one that was listed and is now marked as sold?

-
Yes that's the one, hope it's ok.
-
keep us posted as to how the whole sale/delivery goes. I have been talking to Jason recently - he also looked after me with my JT gear - and I think he has the best bikes advertised commercially at the moment.

Rossco

My bike finally arrived in Sydney and after a week or 2 of hold up's and problems getting past Customs and Quarantine I have collected it from the warehouse. The whole procedure has been a roller coaster ride and very steep learning curve from my end. I would make sure if you are going to import a bike do a lot of research before hand and get a fixed price for shipping door to door as costs really add up once the bike arrives in Australia.
My bike failed quarantine checks and to pass Quarantine the bike had to be cleaned and the crate destroyed. This left me out of pocket after I had to pay the clean up bill from Quarantine. I'm sure if more care was taken with the cleaning and crating of the bike before exporting this would of been avoided.
So again make sure you do your research before importing a bike from the US and select your exporter/importer carefully as if thing go wrong you will be left to clean up the mess and pay the bills.

Jase, did you buy the A4 or A5

I understand this is an old post. I would like to know what had to be done that JaseGP is talking about to avoid added cost from cleaning and crating.
I see the price East Coast mx sells his machines for and I'm amazed. I can't buy a bike and restore it to the condition he sells them for and even break even on the price he sells them at.
