This track is currently in use in France and was the venue for a recent twin shock event. Heaven. No foot breaking table-tops there. And its on the edge of an industrial estate.

Well, maybe a couple of table-tops !!!!!

Sadly know were I'm aware of. Sadly again if you did the first things riders would say( In Aus ) it's to fast.
Our tracks are little more than stretched out SX tracks with hardly a use for 4th gear.
-
It's not quite that nice, but QVMX's Coles Creek track is not that different! Once a year down this way the Bega club run a grasstrack at Coopers Creek and it's again a nice big fast grasstrack on the side of a series of rolling hills. They have a club day there in late June - after all the rain there this year I suspect it's gonna be nice and lush.
But yes, I'd LOVE to ride that track in the piccies. On a nice 250/Open Class twin shocker.
-
Ya beat me to it Graeme,
The Far South Coast MCC runs a beaut event at Coopers Gully, a natural terrain event at an awesome venue, they also run Amcross at the old Bega racecourse.
Check the Club's website www.fscmcc.com.au for any info.
The next Coopers Gully event, from the website, 26th June

A track like that would never work here anyway.... Track's too long and the hills are too steep.... Too far for all those Euro bikes getting pushed back to the pits, and then having to be pushed up those hills too.... Nah, never work here.. ::) ::)
-
don't think i could manage 3 laps there either ;D, :P
-
You blokes are whimps, and you call yourselfs motocrossers :-[ ;D

Actually that track above used to have a deeper gully in the middle but over the years has been filled up with Euro bikes.
No where near so elaborate because they were setup over a weekend but some of QVMX's earlier tracks had a similar feel, Smiths and Fraser's at Canungra and Janine Dve, Beenliegh (also a Mr MX was run there in the 80's). Covered with houses now of course.

Old motocrossers!

Who you calling Block? ;D

What a grouss track would love to ride the Beeza there bit softer ground than when i came over to ride your Nats at Mt Kembla. As an outsider i would have thought the right to ride any land (not approved only - so you just go mark out a paddock like in Un Zud) would have been better than tinkering with the class rules?
-
Toowoomba was great smaller version of what's in the picture raced there about a month ago.
-
If that was an Aussie track it'd have another 25 corners in it and be a 10th of the length.

Toowoomba is a fantastic track and only a couple of years ago we were racing the Evo class there in the Thunder X series.
-
nothing wrong with old motocrossers - if we didn't make up the pack there wouldn't be much for you guys at the front to crow about ;D
-
If we could muster up 100000 spectators like they do it could be a goer. :)
-
Mount Kembla was a great track

Someone should send this photo to Brisbane City Council as an example of what is needed here, I know a few new sites have been talked about, like something to replace Fort Lytton in the Port Precinct and also a move of a venue currently being used by two clubs to another location. If they could allocate decent land and facilities for young kids, intermediate and expert modern MX as well as the growing VMX, Flattrack and sidecars it would be a venue and a asset to Brisbane.
Some place safe and organised for kids to learn and enjoy their bikes with Mom and Dad, a place that could hold Australian and possibly International events, a place we could all use and local clubs could benefit from the income produced. A place that was media friendly that would allow TV broadcast of events and advertising. I see money being poured into RSL Clubs after the floods so the locals who have lost their properties could go in and loose their shirts. I see money being spent on toll tunnels that we didn't want and don't use. But I see very little money being spent on our sport/sports, and for the life of me I can not understand why not?
-
You do know about the new ride park out on the Boonah-Beaudesert Road don't you?
-
Another item of the track that is missing/dissappearing slowly in Oz and noticable on this pic is the spectator access to the middle track-upclose viewing area :P :P
cheers A

I'm a life member of the Flat Track society but even I'd like to ride that track.
Shouldn't the question be, Why can't we?
-
Now if MNSW could convince the NSW govt to give them the right to build a Classic and Post Classic track in the top corner of Eastern Creek on the go kart track side and maintain that part of the facility i.e. don't clash with the main facility and allow camping up there when there are big events at the sealed track then a State owned piece of land could be used by more than one motorsport organisation in NSW.
Or... how about a Junior rider skill and training MX track that is rider friendly to VMX run on the concept of a "Mens Shed" that caters for all juniors regardless of gender up there in that forgotten corner of the world. Or NSWIS MX training facility.....
Or am I dreaming ... yeah I'm dreaming ??? :'(
I just woke up and I'm still in NSW ;D

Not all but a lot of the 90's Thumper Nats tracks were great race circuits. They offered very fast long straights, steep fast up and down hills, big single ski jumps, wide multi line corners mostly all on natural type terrain.
What happened to these tracks when MX turned totally four stroke?
Stan.

Stan.
Excellent point Stan - even when they started the TN series I was wondering then why all MX tracks weren't like that, they appeared suddenly (except for Conondale obviously) and then vanished.
I have a seen a distinct lack of imagination in tracks even with limited resources and as JohnnyO points out, too many tight corners 20 bloody meters from each other.
-
Well my dreaming idea for Eastern Creek is out the window as most of that spare land has bee allocated to take in the new road race track....
Must be some land around the Creek fit to build a VMX track and training facility on without compromising Prospect reservoir.

But they'll find $20mil to give to the forking V8's to have a race in a public park 10 kays from a White Elephant govt owner race track ::)
-
I'll be interested to see how this one works out...

I have to applaud the South East Queensland Councils and the State Government for taking a chance on something like this.
Pee Wee MX area, Novice MX area, Natural Terrain MX area, Supercross area, Freestyle area, Trials area, Flat Track, marked Enduro loops, ample paved parking.... And Motorcycling Queensland won the tender to run it.. ;D

So, I do have to applaud the Qld Governmrnt on this initative.... can't wait to drive north and spend my hard earned dollars in Queensland ....... C'mon Barry stop trying to screw the public service in NSW and do something useful for the State ... build a motorcycle riding complex!! ya fool ::)

Geez it's a long way out (further than Smith Rd) and certainly a bonus for responsible riders but doesn't cure the problem of the ones who cause trouble anyway. I wonder how many non-bike Dads who would have taken Johnny to Stanmore/Wheelstanders with his 80 will go that distance...

Fort Lytton needs replacing its a shit track! no disrespect to the guy who runs it!!! he is doing an awesome job with fork all resources and land! but its a mini bike V's SX track and not much fun at all! 2nd gear all day long:(
give me rolling hills and wide open spaces anyday:)
but they need something. and better that

it may look a long way i drove up there to have a look a few months ago took about 45 min to get there im in mt warren park near beenleigh.were i ride every weekend most people are travelling around half an hour to get there to ride illeagally most i speak to where i ride cant wait for it to open me likewise.but depends on pricing to how much people will go there.cheers gary

that track is not as nice as it looks, i rode it around 8 years ago and its real hard work.
-
The problem with Aus tracks is a very simple one. Most Aus clubs are run by mini bikes parents so they build tracks to suit. Most have no understanding of what a motorcross track really needs and they mostly listen to little Jonny hot shot racers opinion who thinks he is a SX god.
A case in point, a local track I used to race on is run this way, This track is were Josh Strang cut his early laps. After a huge revamp the club officials all feeling chuffed with themselves ask Josh who was home at the time to do a few laps and give his opinion after doing 10 or so laps he comes in and tells them the track is just ok for SX practice and has no were to pass. Needless to say the Club officials stop asking Josh and just went on their path regardless.
-
Most tracks are approved by a offical track inspector by a State Body of Motorcycling Australia and comply to so many meters wide,by so many jumps and corners.
All the track we have left are designed and have been at the same venue for over 50 years.
Having natural terrain tracks is the other option.
This is why us as vmx riders/people we have to have respect and nuture our farmers/property owners, if not then we are doomed. :o
re:travelling to an event..example:dont people travel from the Blue Mountains on a train down to Syndey for WORK :-\
cheers A

Dave, I thought I was the wimp :D ?
Apart from Farleigh Castle, what other great tracks are there in UK and Europe that are twin-shock friendly? Didn't you do an event in Belgium this year?
-
I love the look of that track, reminds me of the old wallan track. or the old bianco park track any of the good tracks of old where built in a valley or ampitheatre more come to mind like the melanisia track at hervey bay, conondale ect. you have to remember that SX was an invention of the USA and when it started i think it may have been indoors cause of the crapy snowy and frozen winters so you could race all year round may be i dont know. Then australia whent mad for SX (stadium cross) so you could have a spectical for entertainment you know a saturday night out tight tracks action aplenty. Then some dumb people build Quads and table tops into our great outdoor tracks and basicaly ruin them at the Hervey Bay MCC (not to be confused with the club there now) we even caved into pressure from some people and added quads, why i dont know . I guess it was just the done thing, in hindsight i wish that we just added an extra 1 Km to the already 2.5 K track that would have made it better as Moto's were 30 or 40 minutes plus one lap almost on the edge of a tank of fuel in those days now that would have made for better rideing. ;D
-
You be lucky to burn 5 liters in a whole race day these days as the tracks are covered with so much BS.
-
I know what your saying :'(
-
I could get close to it on my farm. Those drop off are pretty cool.
-
;D imagine having to wait for the pee wee's to do their 3 laps, yawn :o :o
-
Pirie593, No I have never raced in Belguim, Mt Kembla would have been close, I have never had the privilage to fly out of Australia, only one can dream, the track on this thread in France would be brilliant, I love track like that, but It lacks a long straight, to whine the bike out.
