Hey Stan
Very Cool,
Merry Xmas to you see @ CD8

Even though I've been into Kwaka's for years and even working in Bike shops for years, I still don't understand why K called them SR's ?
Like Honda with the road race specials were RCB's not CBR's od RVF's not VFR's.
Doe it mean "Special Racing" or "Super Rare" or "Salubrious Rooly"
Anybody wanna explain?.
-
Thats awesome Stan.....they sure are pretty little things 8)
-
Thanks Stan ;D some very cool iron in there :)

So many cool Kawi's, a couple in that collection are ex Aussie bikes ridden by Graeme Smythe in the late 70's.
#48 big bore and #01 behind it.

Or perhaps this one.

Nice find Stan. Looks like 84 was the first KIPS valve

What's the history on that one Bahnzy? I'd hate to slide too far forward on that thing!!
-
After riding my 84 RM125, which has had the magic wand waved over it, i thought that it was pretty quick, untill i rode this one. Bottom end does not exist, but mid range and top end are beyond explanation. Sounds like a 250 and explodes like one.
Engine wise there are more factory bits than you can poke a stick at. It runs a heavily modified 39mm carburettor with a factory works pipe and muffler. From the factory the bike would have been fitted with a single left side radiator whereas this bike is fitted with twin radiators. Suspension is nothing like i've ever seen or ridden on before, specifically for something built in the early eighties,
I'm not 100% sure of the exact origins of the bike although a certain Queensland Kawasaki collector may know more but i was of the understanding that it came out of Europe/UK some time back.

The tank is pretty much par for the course on the 80/81 works machines. The story goes that the bikes cooked in the deep sand of the euro tracks so they fitted twin radiators to keep them cool. The problem then was that they had no room for a decent fuel tank required to get the bike through the power sapping sand and the 40 minute motos, hence the "awkward" tank design. Check out Lackeys bike from the above listed site.

Do you own that pretty thing Bahnzy? I'm taking note that your a lucky bugger to get to ride it as described, but to own it....

Lets just say that it is in the stable ;)
And its no show queen. It did the majority of the VIPER rounds this year as well as the Honda Bonanza, although it's now resting gently in semi retirement.

nice bike Rod
a real gem ;)

I have snapped a couple of SR's myself.
This one would have been a really good shot except this stupid dork wouldn't get off the bike

Ya probably would snap one now ;D

Would someone hazard aguess that its approx 85 model. The rear suspension had an adjustment witha screw and locknut, which we can see ilistrated, is this a std type of adj or is it special for The SR's.

Works bikes never had a year model persay as the spec of the bike could be 2 or more years in advance of the technology that came on the production model. I'd guess that it would have been a bike that was raced in 84/85 given the side covers. The adjustable rear link was standard fair for 85 models till the lower link setup came into production (86 from memory)

Klub Kevlar Grand Poobah Frank Stanborough looked after these bikes like they were his own children when he ran team Amco Kawasaki back in '74-77. He reckons the ex Weinert 400 was a very fragile bike, fast but you never knew what was going to break next. By the time he'd finished with it the bike had a complete Stansborough gearbox with ratios more suited to our shorter tracks and with much stronger gears. The ports had been modified by Gary Treadwell and he's also made the pipe, resulting in a faster yet more user friendly power delivery. The 250 was not an ex Weinert bike as rumoured but was an ex Japanese series development bike, used in Japanese events to try works tricks before they went onto the works bikes out in the field. It was much tricker than the 400 but for some reason wasn't used as much, possibly because the Mr Motocross series was for open class bikes. Because of that it wasn't as modified as the 400 although Frank thinks it may have recieved one of his transmissions and a Treadwell pipe.

Are you asking about the ones I posted?
If so then...
"19" is 84 SX
&
"8" is 85 MX
both were Goat Brekkers

Tell us more about the first pic, GMC. Taking a photo of a bike in the pits is one thing, but getting a sit on a year-old works bike is a pretty big deal - particularly if you were away from a race meet/team workshop/museum (as the background suggests).
FWIW, the production 125 got the 'normal' linkage in 86. The production KX250 & 500 got it in 87.

GOATS BIKE IS A PRODUCTION 1986 250
WITH FACTORY PARTS BOLTED ON ;)
-
Ya cheeky bastards ;D

Yeah, I was thinking that too as I wheeled it out of the back of Goats garage for a quick photo shoot.
But it just some old dunger that Goat had laying around. :o ;D
GOATS BIKE IS A PRODUCTION 1986 250

I don’t know calling it a production bike with works parts would be correct as this photo was taken in March 85.
More likely the production bike was based on the works bike.
-
you may be right geoff after looking closer
its a 1985sr250
the only thing confusing me is the adj link it looks production
nice bike i want it ;D
-
I saw a bike for sale the other day with that type of adj link, he said it was a 86 kx250, pertty rough. i was getting a bit excited thinking i may have stumbled upon a SR. no such luck. This bike was advertised as imaculate 89. Once i got there it turned into a 86 which was a pile of shit. Still if it had of been an SR, it would have been cheap...

Not sure about Billy Liles 85 500, it may have been a modded production bike.
The swingarm is modified for the rear disc, not sure what else.
