First up, I have no idea.
However, my opinion is that it sounds weird that they'd go to the trouble of stamping an engine so they could remember who's bike it is. :D :D
I'm totally prepared to be wrong on this one and it could be easily proven by giving CD a call.

Common practice in the US on works bikes. Initials anyways.
The rims are "Peter Jackson" blue???
-
That's what I was thinking E.R.
Been on the plonk tonight Tony?

Obviously, I'm just a bit dumb.......... :D

Yeah the Pink and Blue looks great?????? :o

First question, what year YZ is that.
Second question, what years did Dack ride for Yamaha.
I thought he was with Honda around the approx year of this bike.
-
Went to Yamaha for 1988.
The Ebay bike is a 92 model, (or thereabouts - too lazy to go back and check the listing)..
-
The Peter jackson bike is in Geelong l have seen it nice bike.
-
I dont know about you guys, but wouldnt it be great if it was an ex Dacka bike. Its cool having a bike with real race history.

Yeah it would be, but it looks like a stocker with blue rims and what is perhaps an Ex-Dack cylinder. Hardly something with a real race history…
It could be his, he retired at the end of '92. But it doesn't look particularly trick…

are yamaha engine number stamp pads serrated?

Has'nt anyone noticed the swingarm?

Sorry #8, I completely missed it. Well spotted.
Maybe there is more to this than I thought [wouldn't be the first time].
-
dacky is a bit hard to get hold of, but you could speak with Ross McWatters from McWatter Racing Developements (find him on google search) he was looking after the Yamaka racing team back then i think, he is a nice bloke and will be happy to answer your questions, he lives in the Sydney area still.

Oops, Rosco would be annoyed! Got the name wrong AND forgot to post his phone number- 0406 448 455.
RING HIM, he will know if they stamped names on engines or not, he will have been the guy doing the stamping!
On a sad not he know rides Kawaks himself!

The swing arm seems to be a modified standard unit which is odd

Have you never seen a pic of a swingarm on a factory bike?
-
Thats right, a lot of factory stuff looked home made and agricultural and not mass produced by robots.

Hi maybe able to explain the bike, I worked very closely with procycles & yamaha teams at that time, guys like dack etc usually had many cylinders ported for different power delivery etc( SX & outdoor), they were usually marked A,B,C. also all ex race bike are returned to almost standard so secrets dont get out & insurance reasons, hope this is of help , cheers middo ;)
-
Yeah I know someone in WA who was mates with Dack at the time who scored one of his team bikes.... it was basically rebuilt stocker when it turned up with new plastics.
-
Yeah your correct middo i was a riding buddy of Glen Bell's during the 80's & that's exactly what happened to his bikes. Frank Pons was his mechanic & he carried out a lot of his work through Pro Cycles.
