Shane - is that effectively the 930 turbo?
Title: Re: VMX riders other rides
Post by: STW996 on July 17, 2010, 08:34:39 am
Hey Alison I thought the how much was for Firko's girlfriend :D

Banhsy, I too had one of the mighty UX1's great little car, sold mine back in 87 so the prices were still low then, having said that bought it for 3300 and sold for 4500 so I was happy with that!!

Rossco, no mate only a 911, it is a turbo body (from factory) was bought into Australia by a guy that bought it from a German Doctor in 87. It is a 77 model.

Since that photo I have upgraded with 3.6 litre engine, GT3 Cup cams full stainless Fabspeed exhaust puts out 290 HP and only weighs 1100 KG. So on paper it is quicker than a 930 but not as good as the real thing!

That's a bit smicko Dave! Somehow I had you made as a Hilux ute kinda bloke :-\.

That's a nice little Porsche Shane, you kept that one quiet! I once came within a poofteenth of becoming a 911 owner. I took the car for a test drive and I detected a ticking noise, kinda like a sticky lifter on an old Holden so I backed away from it. About a month later I saw it going past on the back of a tilt tray tow truck so my instincts may have been right. If the right one came along I'd buy it in a heartbeat (if I could afford it that is.) but intil then my big pussy (the car) will do me.

My Dad had a Daytona Bronze LC GTR Torana which made me the guy with the cool dad amongst my mates. The day he came home with a new HJ Holden Premier after trading the Torana was a black day in our relationship. It took me weeks to get over it.

It's a pity the Muzzy's in NZ Bazza, the Wednesday night street drags at Eastern Creek are soon to host the first annual Klub Kevlar muscle car shootout. AJs Mustang v Chris's Camaro v Steepys Corvette v Edgars HO (maybe)..the winner then gets to race me and my Jaggy around the GP track on open drive days! They might beat me by a second or two at the drags but I reckon I've got 'em nailed once the big girls wound up (the car, again).  What was your ET Baz? I reckon 13's for AJ and Chris 15's for the Vette and Jag.

Nice 450 I wish I had the time to own older cars (or the money to pay someone to fix them) Mine is a 98 I owned it about 7 years now just service it put in more fuel and drive it. I can only get around 25,000KM from the tyres thou dosent matter what i try they just wear out. The bloke I buy them off reakons I could try slowing down for corners but that seems a little over the top.

Merc Benz 300E 1992 as the daily runner.

And my Nissan 1400 LDV 2004. My weekend and bike delivery wagon. Basically a Datsun 1200 GX with a very large boot and some minor upgrades like 1400cc engine and disk brakes. Believe it or not but you could still buy these new last year in SA! Costs about zero to run so will never sell this.

Thanks Firko (about the Porsche), yes mate a big cheque book user them 911's  ???

Hey your would get on great with an old kart racing mate of mine Ron Moore. He has about 8 Jags of differing types and years and at least 3 of the big V12 Cats.

Still the best sounding race car on song was the 3 mighty Walkinshaw team Jags at Bathurst 85. Music to the ears ;)

This is the under construction project, with a bit of luck she'll be a driver around christmas.
So far she's got the 9" fitted measured up, the brakes are partially done, 17x10 & 17x9 Bridgestone RE050's are fitted. The Stillen motorsport VG30ET is nearly built, just a small battle with finding a gearbox that will handle 350+HP and still retain the OEM floor shift. Gearbox could be the deal breaker if i can't sort something.

In the meantime i'll continue to drive the bumblebee till the rego runs out then mothball the old girl. She deserves a rest after a few years of good service.

Ok, here's my latest 'old man car'.  :D

It cost bugger all and has done a few good trips lately. e.g. 20 hours driving to Ruffy and back in 2 days and I felt great at the end of it.  8)
It tows the caravan with ease and being mid 70's, it is period correct for most of my bikes.
Not bad for 650 bucks!!!  ;D

No I bought mine from A bloke called Tom in Rockhampton and the other one from a copper in S.A.  The cars in the pictures aren't mine.  I just found some pics of my models on the web because I actually don't really have to many pictures of my cars.

yup, love the old Valries 8) my eldest bro had a beautiful stock as a rock mustard coloured '71 2 door VG with the 245. Used to love driving that car but sadly he moved it on for much the same as he paid..about $1000 :( where's that bloody foresight when you need it! ::) I had the Goss Special 2 XB also but again I lacked a whole shitload of foresight and sold it off :(...actually swapped it for some quality GM bits which I may have previously mentioned :P so now I'm left with this old girl..owned it for what must be near 30 years. This will be the 3rd and last time I rebuild it though still undecided to go grey or red. I'm thinking grey as I have some nice accessories for those ;)

I'm sure I've posted this pic on the forum somewhere before but I may as well post again, me ( the short arse) and my bro on his wedding day..early 90's

My mate has a very warm 202 in his FX ute.
It must feel good to have something thats lasted 30 odd years and appreciated in value.
I just enjoy driving my HQ and HJ coupes because of all the silly noises and simplicity, plus i get a big head when i get the "thumbs up" from people when taking them out  ;D

Mario, no, the engines are in the garage here and the rest of the car is at my Mum's place. It will look the same again when it's finished. Not rusted out badly or anything, just needs rewiring and basically putting back together replacing worn brakes, tie rods and kingpins along the way, it had a hard life in my earlier years :P used to run the XU1 spec 202 and celica ironcase 4 speed with 3.89 ratio in the rear, in such a light car with that gearing it 'never' blew up a diff and fairly hammered off the line leaving many wondering WTF! ;D but would run out of puff before it got to 90mph :D I love the old girl and never really looked at it as an investment but yes, I suppose it has appreciated ;)

just out of curiosity,  would anyone on the forum know who'd be able to restore the wood on the steering wheel pictured below and how much this type of repair may cost?

When I figure out how to put pics on by myself I shall show my list of cars from age 17 ['36 ford sedan]  through MG TF 1500, A/Healy 100, and a fair few more, including things I should have never sold [500cc Excelsior Manxman] and some that I should never bought! cheers pancho.

yea burgundy was one of the more popular colours in the vj range. i picked mine up from wagga wagga. that isnt the original colour. its a few shades lighter than the original. it got restored in the mid 80s. it had been my dream car since i was 8. when i twas 15 found one for 8k... i came up about 5 k short.. ha. was spewing. 10 years on this one came up. i couldnt let her get away from me. they are a wolf in sheeps clothing... people wont understand what they go like for a stockie until you ride in one. mine has a set of extractors an some pipes an it leaves my mates vu ss as if it was standing still. staged or rolling. it wont care.
