Title: The number of SWM's in Australia.
Post by: 2T_vs_4T on June 05, 2010, 02:36:58 pm
Hi, 2T_vs_4T here.
I'm new here, I joined after an long time riding friend told me about the site. I have two SWM's a 1978 RS 125 GS and a 1978 RS 175 GS. Both aquired some time ago after many phone calls in Queensland, New South Wales and Victoria.
I had a thought about finding out how many SWM's came to Australia, eg model and year.
So if you would like to add yours to the list, I'm starting with my two.

                                                *AUS*SWW*RS125GS*C*0003*
                                                *AUS*SWM*RS175GS*D*0002*

Cheers 2T_vs_4T.

Edgar Phipps has a pristine original SWM 250 he recently found under a house. Not sure of the year but it appears to be around '77/78. It's got a Rotax engine.

btw, check out      http://ozvmx.com/community/index.php?topic=13457.0

Did you only compete in one round of the 6 Day Series in 1982?

Between the 82 6 Day Series, and the 82 Condor Series, that makes at least 4 forum members that all competed against each other in enduros in 1982....    ::)  (2T_vs_4T, NSR, Mike52 and IT400C)

Small world............     ;)

Here is a pic of the SWM 125, found outside in the weather, it had been through a flood where it was found, the first 30cm or so of the expansion chamber had rusted away and the rings had rusted in the bore. The front wheel had been sold to a local farmer to use on a piece of farm equipment, but it was tracked down and exchanged for another wheel. There is also corrosion of the mag case around the rotary valve, so a little work to do, I think so. Here is a link to the pic. I will take so more pics soon, now that i know how to post them.

I really hope you can bring this wreck back to life. If you decide it's too big a project, I'd be interested in taking it on.

I know where this bike is........... In my shed. Was waiting for the time and $$ to do it up. Have managed to track down new plastics and parts for it. Was intending to start the resto shortly, however change of situation and will be putting it up for sale shortly. It's a 80 or 81 GS250. Same as the pictured one below your post.

Cheers.

What a great find.  I'd touch up the paint on the motor and that would be it.

Is there a bolt missing from the top triple clamp?

History?

The SWM is a 370 enduro that was issued to Mick Bowers in 1980!
Brought to our Oz shores in 2001.
The rest is not mine to tell  ;D   :'(

Hi gents from SOuth AFrica-I am  a collector and recently acquired an immaculate 1982 SWM 250 - the bike is immaculate and all that is missing is the tool cover and rubber straps on the fuel tank. Can anybody direct to where I can get a replacement? I would greatly appreciate the help.  Please send me an email to [email protected] REgards Gavin WIlliams

SWM number,

I just adding my 250 to the list,

AUS*SWM*RS250GSL*E*0016*

I think it was a blue bike with no signs of any other colour under the silver frame.

Chris.

A.J.Windor [ could be Windsor ] raced a 125 SWM on 7/8/83 in round 4 of the Yamaha 6 Day series at Toonumbar.
He came 6th in class which was pretty good because a LOT of the big boys DNF'ed that one.

Wonder where that bike ended up?

Bunch of Woolgoolga guys used to come up to sunny QLD to race in the Yamaha 6 day series and I got to know the Woolgoolga bike shop owner who sold a lot of KTM's.
Haven't seen him for a long time now.
Fell off a pushy and damaged himself if I remember right .

Those guys were so laid back I don't know how they kept their bikes upright and I'me stuffed if I know how they raced as that stuff they smoked slowed you down , so I'me told. ;)
They probably won't remember any of the time they spent up here  :o

KTM must stand for Karma Through Marijuana. No wonder those KTM boys run their bikes with plenty of two stroke oil.  They like their bikes to run smokey!
