Had a look at the masters web site last night it sounds like its a huge event with a lot of people who would remeber the golden age of sidecars couldn't think of a better way to show case the sport. If we have missed the cut off date for next year, we should be lobbying for its inclusion for 2012 but it will require people to get off there bums and do something!

Good news! Spoken to one of the organizers at the masters games they have an open mind about the sidecars, and said to me as long as, at least 6 teams turned up they would let us join in. The track is at Reedy creek (where ever that is) I believe it is going to be natural terrain however there will be some jumps in it and have been told it will be sandy they are happy to let the moderns join in and if it helps to raise the numbers that has to be a plus, the classes could be worked out by ages, if we have a big turn out. I think the event is from the 6th to the 14th of November 2010. The sub regs have to be worked out by mid Feb so we need to start planning. The cost is $90.00 per person so 180.00 per sidecar team and you will need a national race licence ( dont think day licences will be allowed ) If you are racing at Broadford you should already have a national licence. I don,t want us to get bogged down in politics of what is allowed because we have the chance to display our great team sport to an expected 10,000 participants, I can't think of a better way to show case sidecar MX.
Have tried to contact the ASA as yet have had no response, but hopefully they could send a few teams over, some of the West Australians might be interested if they are going to CD7 and sending bikes in a container again, the Queensland guys might be able to store the container  until November for the event, and then send it back later. Remember its going to be hot that time of year as well. We need to get the ball rolling so if I can get some names and numbers, so that I have something to present to organizers to get us into the games that would be a good start.  If you want, send info as a pm to me, thats ok.

Post by: odd1 on December 19, 2009, 06:26:12 am
Thats the attitude we want. What about the Husband and wife team on the RM do you think you could get them to come along? Remember we can make the rules so I'm sure we could come up with something to accomadate the slower riders and beginers but it has to be workable and simple.
Title: Re: Masters Games
Post by: VMX247 on December 19, 2009, 10:35:43 am
What about the Husband and wife team on the RM

I believe they are too young...don't you have to be over 50/55 for the Masters games.  8)
cheers
Title: Re: Masters Games
Post by: odd1 on December 19, 2009, 06:29:52 pm
The minimum age is 30 so most of the sidecar teams are well into thier old age (probably approaching thier old old age). How many classes depends on how many turn up. Have made contact with the ASA will send an email next week to put them in the picture.
Title: Re: Masters Games
Post by: odd1 on December 23, 2009, 11:28:19 am
I have been given some more information sent to me so hers the up date.  The games are open to anyone 30 and over as a team there ages will be added together and divided by 2 to get their average age and that will be the age group they will race in. The cost is approximately $200 per team. The rules are to be as MA G.C.R.s  as this is an MA sanctioned event. The sidecars will be racing on Sunday the 7th of November 2010. There is also a vinduro and enduro on the 6th of November the enduro is open to modern bikes however the vinduro is only open  to pre 85 solos and there is also a motocross on the Sunday for the solo's. At the moment we have about 3or4 teams from QLD. I have mentioned on the vmx forum that the event was at reedy creek I have since been corrected and been told it will be on the gold coast somewhere. We will need at least six teams to get a start. The organizers don't mind if moderns  and oldies run together as this will help to boost numbers. If  any of the members are thinking about going to CD7 we might be able to arrange somewhere to store them until November and then the teams could fly in  and get the outfits shipped back to SA.
Title: Re: Masters Games
Post by: VMX247 on December 23, 2009, 02:27:39 pm
Good show old chap...well done.  8)
I wouldn't think you would have a problem in finding enough outfits for the grid...
If you get short you can always pull passengers out of the Vinduro or MX class, there is always some one keen to be different  ;D
Happy Christmas
cheers

Odd one reedy creek is in the gold coast shire, there will be 6 in Bmcc next year possibly 7 I'd say all will attend, I can store a couple no worries, and I dare say a few of the other guys could find a spot in the shed for them, you have my number so pass it on if you want

Title: Re: Masters Games
Post by: EML on December 31, 2009, 07:34:52 pm
All very good news!!
As a suggestion I wonder if the rule of total combined age including sidecar could be used in this event, that may discurage two 30 yr olds turning up on a modern and making us all look giriatric (spell check reqd.)
That way even Don Newell could ride on a new outfit with a young passenger and maybe pull a medal.
Title: Re: Masters Games
Post by: odd1 on January 01, 2010, 09:49:29 am
Sounds like a fair rule to me. If everyone who intends to enter is happy I will ask it might encourage more people to enter older bikes which would be great. If there are riders that would have a go if that rule was introduced let me know. Mind you those youngsters will have to be pretty quick to make you and popeye look like geriatrics !

To clarify a query re eligibility--- sidecars Pre 85 [MX only] ,Vinduro & Classic MX Evo & earlier solos.
Title: Re: Masters Games
Post by: supersenior 50 on August 12, 2010, 11:15:41 am
Discount entries close 3rd Sept--final close 22nd Oct--NO LATE ENTRIES.
Discussions with sidecar guys has resulted in opening entries to later outfits whereby we may adopt staggered starts if there is a great descrepancy between machines. We'll take advice on this when entries are known.

Ok guys and girls time to muster the passengers and drivers and get your entries into the masters games the first sidecar is entered lets put on a good show for the spectators and show them that old guys rule.

Very dissappointing from the sidecar people. come on and get your entries in. We have entered also and our new EML will hopefully be arriving in Bris on the 31st of October and we would like to race it at the masters games. We are driving 1000 km to be there and camping at the track. So come on, time is running out.

Have spoken to a couple of them and they tell me that the entry fee is too high. I explained that it would probably be a once-in-a-life typr thing and that they should get into it.
We might have to do a chook raffler or take the hat around.. :D

I have had a friend from Russia call me about hiring a bike from a shop on the Gold Coast. He said he was Ima Gettoffalot ex Russian sidecar champ and his passenger Ikin Hangonnawell and he was looking for a sidecar to race in the Masters Games-seems that they have never heard of sidecar cross and refered him to the local Cossack dealer for proper translation.

Entries close in less than 3 weeks--only 3 entries asat 30 Sept. Yes entry is expensive with two crew having to enter ,however if you both ride a solo also ,it becomes cheaper than  recent Nats.If you do Vinduro and/or Enduro  as well it is great value. Bear in mind you get free entry into all other venues ,entertainment ,social activities etc it is cheap [the headline entertainment would cost you $70-$100 per show outside this event.

Well all the excitment is over and I have had time to reflect on what a great time was had by all, and despite popular belief that the world would end if the the so called moderns mixed it with the classics it didn't ! In fact a pre 75 bike won the event expertly steered by Jamie and passengered by Wayne and If Popeye and Vaughn could get there sidecar to do more than one lap I'm sure the results might have been different but thats sidecar racing. I thank Col for letting us have a race and as he said it was looking doutfull a few weeks before but thanks to all the teams that made the effort to turn up. We are now looking forward to the Sidecar spectacular next year run by the ASA. See you there.
