8) Way cool Doc
-
Wow that was awesome Doc track looks great ,How many riders in one race ?. Luv the Torana and the Sheila in Flares .
-
yeah it's not bad quality on dvd either.. I converted the whole deal for posting online last nght but the moment I went to look at the decoded movie my computer spazzed blue screened and hasn't been able to boot up since :'( bloody thing!! has to be chinese!! will fix it asap..or at least someone will fix it asap :P
-
great video doc, thanks for making the effort to share it. Good choice of soundtrack too ;D
-
Careful what you say about the sheila in flares, I think I might know her.
Pity you can't read the numbers, but I reckon the bloke on the suzuki in front is Sam Kendall, not positive though.
Where did you get them, from your own archives? and any sidecar stuff at all?
-
Holeshot was the generous bloke who gave me the DVD. It was a while back and I have no idea who took it. I may (if extremely lucky) to be to get the whole thing online tonight, but it's both years with no titles or any sort of giveaway as to who's doing the filming. No sound whatsoever but that 'may' have been lost if someone messed up the audio conversion from film to DVD so the original may have sound :-\ no sidehacks sorry EML.
-
is the echo valley track still there and if so is it still used?
-
Thumbs up from me doc.....that was great....damn i was only 11 then!
Hey Doc,is there a way of getting that footage buying or d/loading it?
cheers...mario
-
Hoony Echo Valley is still there, it's the Toowoomba round of the current MX Nationals. Track has changed a bit but many of the old sections are still used today.
-
Thanks Johnny,
being a mexican i never had the chance to ride it, but i did walk sections of it back in the early 80's.
-
Awesome track.. one of the best in Oz in my opinion.
For the Queenslanders on here, the #030 Maico at the start is current MA steward and vintage racer Kev Mortimer back in the day.
-
if someone wants a copy of the whole dvd i could do it for them
limited numbers of course
which means only if i like you ;D
and if i have time :'(

In other words.. 'No Chance' :)
-
JohnnyO how the hell did you see Kevs no. I couldn;t see anything at all of the numbers, but yes 030 is big Kev. That might mean that the guy on the Suzuki might be Stewy MacLaughlin.
It's also likely that Bryan Fleming is in the mix.
The guy on the Yammy with fork accumulators is also a Redcliffe boy whos name escapes me, but I remember his brother was/is a cop in Brissy. I'll think of it shortly.
And the sound you can't hear is Bob Johnston on the mic.
-
EML i'm pretty sure that's Cameron McLachlan, younger brother of Stewie, leading the junior race in the red open face helmet on an RM125b.
You can see Kev's Maico sitting in the pits with the #030.
-
You are probably correct as Stewie had a more 'up and at you'- broad shouldered riding stance.
It would be great to sit and study it for a while with better eyes.
No. 45 would be Mike Landman?? so it must have been a fairly large event.
-
on the full dvd it shows the program
gall gunter landman bailey kendall etc etc
was a big meeting
cheers rusty ;D
-
Yes that is Landman on 45 and you can see Trevor Flood's #5 Yamaha in the background.
I've just found my original race program from the day. It is Cam McLachlan on the Suzuki.
Mountain Man was always a big meeting, all the stars from down south came up every year.
Looking at the results Gall won the day and local vintage racer and former Qld champ Andrew Bailey was 5th.
-
okay, I'm baaaaack ;D don't say I never tried and don't ever download any DVD to AVI conversion software called 4Movy V2. it comes packaged with a big nasty virus that rendered my old hard drive a complete and utter spastic >:( will see if I can't convert the rest of the movie asap. I had it done before the big crash of 2009 but the quality was crap even compared to the first vid I posted :-\ will get it up there sooner or later but maybe best in 3 parts ;) and yes, I agree with Rustle, it was a BIG meeting! 8)
-
here's some more from 1977. No sound and again the quality dies in the arse when uploaded onto the internet ::) ;)

Great stuff Doc.. love watching that old footage, brings back many good memories.
Pretty much the who's who's of Oz motocross was at that race.
-
Doc well done, 8) What a grouse fast flowing track, If you ever get round to wacking them onto DVD I'll pay for a copy .
cheers KB,
-
Hell Yeah, I'd pay for a copy too!
I was there that day (as a 13 year old) with my Dad... Keep looking in the background to see if I can see us! ;D ;D ;D
-
My computers all back to good so I'll run off half a dozen or so dvd's this week and post a notice when they're done for anyone interested ;)

Hey Johnny,
Is that Peter Boyle on 55 it looks like Gally and Landman were on "E's" for that meeting Floody was still on a "D" model Dust gotta luv it,the track surface isn't like that any more,That is Cam in the Junior race for sure
#8
-
Yeah Gary that's Boyle on the #55 Suzuki. If my memory is right i think Gall and Landman were on factory bikes with alloy swingarms and alloy tanks while Flood was on a production bike.

I dont remember Landman ever having a OW I am pretty sure there E's at that time of year,

When we raced at Dalby on the weekend, Ronnie Ash gave me some old programs to copy for him. One is from Echo Valley 1975 and all of the riders above seem to be mentioned. I'll see if I can get it onto this page some how though the slot in the front of my computer seems to be too small to mail it direct.
