It would appear that unless you are a shop ready with a $5000.00 order he is not interested.
But this topic is not "Lets Bag Steve" it is "Where Can I Get"
Thanks everyone

Thanks LWC82PE,
I am sure he won't have it but I am equally sure he will be able to get them.
I will give them a call.

Steve Cramer won't deal with anyone who hasn't got an account with the business. He only opens accounts if you have a francise to sell one of the major Mbike brands .
I tried for ever to get an account up until one day Igot Steve on the phone and spoke with him directly.
So the options are to get yourself a dealership or give up. I gave up.

All I wanted was "What springs are available for my Ohlins shocks"
I started by saying I was going to order the parts through a shop.
May be it is time someone else handled the good name of Ohlins?

You can go through a shop , but best find one tht is sympathetic to the old bikes.I find that alot of the time they just don't want to know or dont understand and you end up with something thats not what you wanted.
-
I would have no chance going through a shop trying to find info about a spring.
Conversation with shoppe,
Ji;I need to know what Ohlin springs will fit my shocks
Shoppe; What bike is it for
Ji;A Maico
Shoppe; What
Ji;It does not matter I just need to know what springs are available for these Ohlins shocks
Shoppe; What size do you require
Ji; 200mm to 210mm long, 20-22N/mm rate linier not progressive with a 46mm ID
Shoppe; I will get back to you.
The answer would not be right and would take six weeks.I ended up talking to Ohlins US and they sent me the spring chart with in a few days and refered me to their vintage MX service guy. Great Service Ohlins US, why can we not have the same service here in Austraila?

Hi Walter,
I would like to have a Ohlins spring if you can get them.
The part number is 00280-20 and of course I would require a pair.
Ji

I totally understand.
The "O" is for "O boy look at the price"

A very big thanks to Walter for offering to get the springs from Steve Cramer for me.
This topic was to try and purchase the springs from someone that has them right here right now and I know that SC does not stock required springs. SC would not be able to deliever for 6 to 8 weeks. If I have to wait that long and pay the extra for SC I would rather get them from the States in two weeks at a reduced cost. So please understand that I am not trying to up set any one nor get the springs for a less amount, I am just trying to reward someone that is trying to cater for the VMX crowd. If there is no one then it will be off to the States.
Thanks all

Thanks LWC82PE,
Leith has shone a brighter light on this subject than all the Ohlins dealers I have spoken to so far.
You are a great asset to this forum.
Keep well mate

must they be ohlins springs? theres plenty of alternatives out there
-
As you know Walter I wrote a program that calculates spring rates, so this did not take much time. As I have stated I am prepared to pay extra to get the springs from a seller here that stocks them. The savings buying from the States direct are only $20-$40 at most. The reason I will not purchase springs from SC or any reseller of his is due to the poor service I received. All SC had to do was forward a list of Ohlins springs with a 46 ID 200 - 210mm long.
I thank you again for all your assistance and offer to help.
I was willing to purchase your YSS springs until I discovered they are progressive.
Your springs are very well priced and come in two great finishes.

Why do some have their handle bars up in the charge position while others have them down, Personnel preference.
I now have YSS, Works Performance, KYB and Ohlins shocks to choose from and test on one bike.
This does not make me an expert, but at least it allows me to talk about such things with some experience.
I have also spoken to three Ex pro racers about springs and they agree with my findings.
For a progressive spring to work properly it needs to be the length of a fork spring. Short progressive springs are too soft, which is fine if you have the valving heavy. Sure you can get stiffer progressive springs that will work but I have found that if you take a progressive spring and a linear spring with the same start up rate the progressive spring will sag more.
That said I am talking about a shock with only 100mm of travel, so having a slight less tension can make a big difference.
On a modern bike with 300mm of wheel travel no biggy.
Before all rip into me this is my findings after using 4 different shocks on the same bike, so don't be to quick to throw the first stone.
Ji
-
Hey Walter,
Can you confirm or disprove that a progressive spring will sag more under a bike only sag load than a linear spring of the same spring start rate?
Ji
-
Hi Walter,
Thanks mate.

This is where I bow to the technology you have.
Your shock dyno should arrive at the exact location for the shocks.
My simple home made tests can not compete but they still give a predictable outcome each time.
Plus I can feel the difference on the track when riding.

Hi Walter,
Here is where I would get the springs from if there is no one here with them and it would seem there is not.

So landed here the springs including airmail will cost $120.00AUD
Okay I was wrong, that is a $80.00 dollar saving.
Ji
-
$200.00 divided by 11 is $18.20 for GST
So excluding GST springs cost $181.80
Landed the springs will cost $120.00
181.80 - 120.00 = $61.80
As I said if anyone had them here for $200.00 I would purchase but it would seem they do not and if I order them I would have to wait 6 to 8 weeks to get them.
This way I actualy save $80.00 and only have to wait 2 weeks.
Order sent.
