Aussie Jason Crump races nex saturday for a 3rd world speedway crown, I suspect far less people in Australia know who he is but in europe he is a superstar, you can watch it live from 4am next Sunday morning for about $10 , details here http://events.servercorporation.com/index.asp?page=support
-
lets hope he gets better results than the last few rounds.
if he wins and i am sure he will we will have 2 world speedway champs
uder 21s already aussie world champ
-
Crumpy lays it on the line tonight.
Fingers crossed he has recovered enough to make the A final and clinch his 3rd title, he definitely deserves it this year.
-
I just went and bought a PC compatible 55 inch LED Television to watch it on ;D ;D ;D
Man!, I hope he clinches this title.... :P
-
Great news, 15 points was enough to win his 3rd Title.
We're on top of the Speedway World with Darcy Ward being the under 20 Champ as well.
-
Jason Crump, our newest World Champion!!!!, Congratulations to him! :)

this makes Crump our most successful ever.
i think Jack Young was a dual champ in 1950 & 51. (i think he was he our last until crump?)
others i know were Lionell Van pragg in 1936 (1st world champ) & Bluey Wilkinson.
-
I was going off a radio report earlier.
He scored 9 points & won the title by 15.
Leigh Adams finished second in the final round.
YEEHAA.

Jason Crump was crowned World Speedway Champion in the final Grand Prix of '09 at Bydgoszcz in Poland.
Crump landed his third World title in six years when he won Heat 13 ahead of outgoing champion Nicki Pedersen, Russian wonderkid Emil Sayfutdinov and Fredrik Lindgren.
The 34-year-old Aussie star went into the meeting requiring eight points on the night to take the crown, and that was trimmed to six when main challenger and local hero Tomasz Gollob finished third in Heat 12.
Crump, still nursing a painful arm injury that required a skin graft last month, had already gained five points from his first three rides, so only needed a point in Heat 13.
He completed the job in style by winning the race after a jet-propelled start from the outside gate left Pedersen trailing in his wake.
Crump, who won three of this year’s 11 GPs, said: “Five weeks ago I thought my season was over after my crash at Belle Vue, but a fantastic team of people have got me back on track and I have to thank them all. The first half of the season went like clockwork, but I messed up a little in the second half when I became a speedway rider rather than a speedway racer.
"The injury never helped but things came good at the end and it was pretty special to win Heat 13 when I only needed a point. It’s an awesome feeling to be World Champion again.”
Gollob finished runner-up in the series, with Sayfutdinov a remarkable third in his debut season, but Gollob’s hopes of winning on the night ended in a controversial second semi-final.
He had already gone down once in a tangle with Pedersen on the first turn, when in the re-run he felt he had been unfairly passed by the hard-charging Dane at the end of the first lap.
Gollob retired after getting out of shape and parked his bike on the start-finish line, forcing referee Tony Steele to stop the race and exclude the Pole.
Rune Holta and Pedersen kept Crump in third place to join Sebastian Ulamek and Leigh Adams in the final, with Adams, having announced his retirement from World Championship racing at Friday’s practice, bidding to end his GP career with a fairytale finish.
Adams pulled out all the stops in the final, but he had to be content with runners-up spot behind Pedersen, who ended a difficult and frustrating campaign as reigning World Champion with his first GP win of the year.
Ulamek, competing in his first GP final, was third and Holta fourth, but the latter had already done enough to win the battle to finish in the top eight and qualify automatically for the 2010 series.
Holta began the night in 10th place behind Andersen and Lindgren, but stormed to 11 point to reach the semi-finals as both his Scandinavian rivals missed the cut for the last eight.
Holta jumped to seventh place while Kenneth Bjerre, who had been vulnerable to the riders behind him, also stepped up to the plate to finish eighth overall.
However Holta admitted afterwards that he had still to make a final decision whether or not to ride in the 2010 GP series.
FIM Polish Grand Prix: Nicki Pedersen (Denmark) 18, Leigh Adams (Australia) 15, Sebastian Ulamek (Poland) 16, Rune Holta (Poland) 14, Andreas Jonsson (Sweden) 12, Tomasz Gollob (Poland) 11, Jason Crump (Australia) 9, Kenneth Bjerre (Denmark) 8, Greg Hancock (USA) 8, Emil Sayfutdinov (Russia) 8, Adrian Miedzinksi (Poland) 6, Fredrik Lindgren (Sweden) 6, Scott Nicholls (Great Britain) 4, Chris Harris (Great Britain) 3, Grzegorz Walasek (Poland) 3, Hans Andersen (Denmark) 3.
Final standings: Crump 159, Gollob 144, Sayfutdinov 139, Hancock 121, Jonsson 116, Pedersen 110, Holta 99, Bjerre 98, Lindgren 94, Andersen 91, Adams 81, Ulamek 75, Walasek 66, Harris 62, Nicholls 45, *Antonio Lindback (Sweden) 27, *Niels-Kristian Iversen (Denmark) 20, *Jarek Hampel (Poland) 9, *Matej Zagar (Slovenia) 7, Adrian Miedzinski (Poland) 6, Grigory Laguta (Russia) 6, *Edward Kennett (Great Britain) 4, *Guglielmo Franchetti (Italy) 2, *Matej Kus (Czech Republic) 1.

Congratulations to Leigh Adams on a long and amazing career.
Possibly the best rider not to win the world title.
He'll be missed.
I bet you're keen now Darren to get that brand new Jawa on the track.
Over 40's world champ would give us the trifecta.

Jason Crump, the current World Speedway Champion, has confirmed that he will be amongst the 16 riders lining up for Somerset Speedway’s 10 Year Anniversary Meeting on March 19th.
That’s the exciting news the Rebels management had been hoping for, with Crump’s confirmation made all the more of a coup by virtue of the fact that the World number 1 is not planning to ride on a regular basis in the UK this year, so his appearance at Somerset’s celebration meeting will be one of the few opportunities that British fans will get to see him racing here.
Crump’s victory in last year’s World Championship Grand Prix series was the third time that he has lifted speedway’s ultimate prize, his other titles coming in 2004 and 2006. Additionally Crump can count a World under 21 crown as well as twice being a winner of the Australian National Championship amongst his impressive list of major titles that he can list on his speedway CV.
For Crump, riding in Somerset’s Anniversary Meeting is almost a-kin to him returning to his roots as the 34 year old was actually born in Bristol, as his father Phil, a third place finisher himself in the 1976 World Final, was one of the sport's top riders of the 1970’s and 80’s riding as he did for Newport, Bristol and Swindon.
“To say that we are over the moon that Jason has confirmed his place in the line- up would be an understatement,” said a delighted Debbie Hancock, “the field already had a star studded ring to it, but to have the current World Champion is really something special.”
“I know that Jason was very disappointed that he had to pull out of Mark Lemon’s testimonial that was held here at the Oak Tree Arena towards the end of last season due to his well documented arm injury, but he did say at the time that if fit and other commitments permitting, he would come and ride in our Anniversary Meeting, and true to his word he confirmed his participation on Monday morning following his return to the UK from Australia.”
“In keeping with last season, three-time World Champion Crump is not planning to be competing full time in the British Elite League this year as he looks to retain his World Crown, and so his appearance at Somerset’s Anniversary Meeting could well be one of the few opportunities for fans to see him riding in the UK in 2010,” Hancock continued, “We are very honoured that he has chosen to make one of those rare appearances at the Oak Tree Arena.”

A Rampant Chris Holder wins his first final in SGP!...www.fullnoise.com
By: Erin Lamor
As a journalist you get to watch and report on the ups and downs in sport, sometimes on a weekly basis. Once in a while though, the 'ups' become something more, they become something special.
Lets set the scene. Sunday morning, 2am Australian time. In front of 44,000 fans Chris Holder comes out as the 2 minute siren sounds in the very first heat of the evening at the Cardiff round of the SGP series in England.
This first heat would set the tone for an amazing evening of international speedway. More importantly for one Australian in particular, Chris Holder.
A dominant display in his first heat with a win and the commentors are already talking potential for Chris tonight.
The indoor stadium in Cardiff was packed with fans from around the globe, all waving their national flags, of which high hopes where held for the British. There was a good mix of Australian flags and boxing kangaroos too! It was balmy in there and the track looked awesome.
Chris Holder's heat races never failed shorter than second place with a couple of wins and a great accumulation of points that set him up for a semi finals berth.
In one particular heat three aussies lined up against each other. Chris Holder, Jason Crump and Davey Watt. You could see throughout the night how important this round of the SGP was to all the riders and this heat showed that more than most. With Crump falling just after the first turn without any sign of contact and Chris speeding off into first place, the race was rerun with Crump allowed to start at the gate again, a decision that confused most.
The race turned into a real show stopper between Chris and Jason, neither one gave the other an inch. Crump was the victor on this occasion but both riders [Crump and Holder] appeared to be very animated heading back to the pits. Both riders later being summonsed to the match referee for clarification on what took place between them after the heat.
Jason Crump and Chris were both professional enough to put this behind them and move on, both stating that it was just hard racing.
So the semi final. Chris wins it with great patience, speed and determination. The stage was set for his first ever final in the SGP.
Track is prepared. Crowd buzzing with anticipation as to me, sitting at a mates place in front of the box. Due to Chris' win in the semi he gets to choose second and takes gate 2, coincidently the same gate he one his first of heat of the night via. Hamel is one the inside, Crump in gate four which had produced up and down results all night. Tape goes up and Chris flys out the box. First corner and he squeezes past Hamel, it would be this way for the entire 4 laps.
Crump and Hamel throw everything at Chris but by this stage he has the run of the track and knows where the best grip and drive can be found and sticks to it. This guy is a rider on the march, there is no doubt now as the black and white flag swirls and the gas flames sup out golden hues around him as he makes his maiden SGP final win!
Like a kid in a candy store he rolls around the track with a few tricks for the crowd, visibly overwhelmed by what he has just achieved.
As the podium presentation comes to an end, Chris holds up the specially designed Cardiff trophy and is shaking his head and looking upwards and out to the box where his family are watching from. He is humble. He is well respected. He is a great aussie. There is no need to doubt yourself anymore mate.
"Im lost for words, I don't know where to start" Chris explains.
"My family are here and they leave for home next week, so Im stoked. This is a dream come true for me"
Jason offers some nice words. "It was a tough out there. I would have like to win for sure, but if there was anyone I wanted to win apart from me its Chris. This is one in many SGP wins coming for Chris, he is a great rider no doubt". Concludes Crump.
The excitement and jubilation shown by Chris is magnificent and intoxicating. I don't think you often get to see someone doing what they were born to do, you see glimpses of brilliance now and then, but this night for me was different in so many ways. Australia has a new hero. In fact, I too have a new aussie hero and his name is Chris Holder.

Great to see another good young Aussie coming along to eventually take up where Crumpy leaves off, hopefully Crumpy will stay around for a few years yet.
This young Russian looks the goods though.
-
Gollob still riding, how old is the Pole now?
-
Apparently he's 39.. not a bad effort for the old boy.
-
great effort, a brilliant rider when on form
-
Without doubt Aussie Davey Watt was the revelation of this meeting and I reckon was on course for a semi and possible final berth until excluded from his last (I think) heat. Had beaten both Crump and Holder in seperate earlier heat races and was looking good. Fantastic effort on Chris Holder's part and hopefully the first of many SWGP wins. Great to see. If anybody watched it you'd agree it was one of the better SWGP'S spectator wise. Gollob always good value and he to was looking like a finals contender on the night until his DNF.

Rebuild time --best wish's Jason 8)
Surgery sidelines Crump from World Cup
Australia’s three-time World Speedway Champion, Jason Crump has announced from his English base today that he has regrettably withdrawn himself from Australia’s 2010 Speedway World Cup team.
Despite being comfortable in the chase for the 2010 Speedway Grand Prix title, the current World No 1 has confirmed that he will undergo further surgery on his left arm in an attempt to regain strength and movement.
Crump, who has been a member of the Australian team since its inception in 2001 said he was bitterly disappointed to have to withdraw but conceded that at this point in time his well being must take priority.
"It was a tough call for me to make as I have been in the team every year since it started and representing my country means a lot to me," Crump explained.
"On top of that, with Leigh retiring from international competition, the last thing I wanted to do was destabilise the team, but it was imperative that we try to get this arm right.
"The reality is that my arm should have been a little further along in its recovery process by now. My preference was to wait until the end of the season but my doctors would prefer to check and see if there is an issue sooner rather than later.
"The support from the Australian team and our team manager Craig Boyce has been humbling. I really hope they can go one better than we did last year and bring the cup home for Australia," he stated.
Crump suffered severe damage to his bicep in a racing incident in September 2009 and despite the injury, claimed his third world title a month later.
Although having endured a number of surgeries and skin grafts in the later part of 2009 the injury still left Crump in doubt of making the 2010 season opening European Speedway Grand Prix in April.
The Australian's never say die attitude has helped him carry the injury through this season to date scoring a win at the opening round and positioning himself in the title chase as the series enters the second half.
Crump is aiming to be back on the grid to continue his world title defence at the Scandinavian Speedway Grand Prix on Saturday August 18.
-
He was having a lot of trouble with that arm when i saw him at Xmas time and way behind in preparation for the 2010 season.

He comes home to the Gold Coast for about 3 months at the end of each year, i usually go motocross or dirt track riding with him while he's back.

When your a 3 time world champ and still at the top of his game, only the best will do. I would be surprised if Phil doesn't have the bike he won his first Oz title on at the Syd Showground, I was there and it was a revelation, he set the, still standing I think, track record in his first race.
Legendary.

Hoony is that a bike built by Neil Street, Jason's grandfather? Pretty sure i've seen it there and been told the story behind it.
-
That is indeed the one Streety built, talk about a speedway family.
the story and success behind that one is very interesting, i read it once many years ago but cannot recall any detail to post it here.
from Wikipedia
In 1974-1975 and his training as a skilled engineer came to prominence. Street had always built his own frames and tuned his engines. Ivan Tighe designed a four valve head for the Jawa engine, with input from Neil Street. The engine was off the drawing board and into manufacture in just four weeks. The engine was taken to Newcastle for a meeting there the night before the Australian championships, but the meeting was rained off, so the engine was yet to complete one lap.
Phil Crump used the engine in the Australian Championships at Sydney and, with the increased power, took nearly 3 seconds off the track record held by Jim Airey immediately. This was considered more remarkable feat considering the fact that the engine was straight from of the workshop and used in a top class speedway meeting. Crump had been given the option of his normal 2-valve engine, but after trying the 4-valve refused to get off the motorcycle.
-
Well done Hoony, that's pretty much how I remember it. The old Showground was the perfect track for the new engine, big & flat out. There was a big scramble afterwards to get a hold of the Street 4 valve conversion. What followed over the next year was a plethora of 4 valve conversions for the ever reliable Jawa 2 valve engine, then the Weslake Mk1 took over the world.
Also from memmory, Phil was desperately unlucky in the World Final in the same year when several of his races were immediately after the scheduled track watering, he may have scored a 3rd.
I have no doubt that if there was a series of GPs as there is today, instead of a one off Final, they would be the first Father / Son world champions.
-
Don't this stuff make ya feel all fuzzie to be an Aussie 8) :P
Holder: I am speechless
After the biggest moment of his career, realisation has yet to sink in for Chris Holder. After standing victorious at the Millenium Stadium, Cardiff, in front of 40,000 passionate fans, the moment he had dreamt of since childhood, had finally become reality.
The talk before the series had featured on what could this young Australian do? Exciting and fearless, it seemed he was likely to step up and be considered a contender for the top 8. After the accident in Torun where at first, it appeared he had a broken arm, it looked like he may lose serious points in the championship. However, a typical tough Aussie, he battled on and achieved more than many people expected at only his fifth GP!
A special moment for the 22 year old, watched on by his family. Unfortunately the celebrations that night were not going to be legendary, with a Polish fixture the following day!
He appeared lost for words in the post meeting conference and it was left to the elder statesmen, Jason Crump to do all the talking! It was nice however, to see a rider so ecstatic with taking his maiden victory as he said “I never wanted to leave the track, I could have stayed doing wheelies all night.”
The happiness amongst the whole SGP paddock was clear to see with so many riders joining in the celebrations and congratulations after the meeting. Clearly, a very popular winner and great for the sport too.
A week after the event at a vital fixture for his club Poole, in Elite League action at Peterborough, he said, “I’m not back to earth yet. It was such a big night for me. I still shake my head when I’m reminded now. I just want to make sure I stay in the top 8, be consistent and move on from Cardiff. It can be so easy to drop back down the table so I mustn’t let that happen.”
He admits he was bowled over by the fanatical support in the GP. There may have been no Brits’ to cheer on in the rostrum but the noise when Holder crossed the line, was electrifying. “The crowd went crazy. It was awesome. I was so lucky to have my first win there.”
Holder thinks Gollob has the edge on this year’s title chase. “The points are still close, though Hampel and Gollob have edged away at the top. Both the Poles are so good but Gollob has ridden unbelievable in the GP’s as well as the Polish league. Hopefully, for him and his army of fans in Poland, he will win the championship, he deserves it.”
Now there is the summer break in speedway from the GP’s and attention moves to the annual world cup event. The Aussies will be racing at the Norfolk Arena, Kings Lynn against home favourites Team GB! They will be without their leader Jason Crump and also ex GP star Leigh Adams.
“I’ve not rode at Kings Lynn for two years. We will miss our two big guns. Just us young ones will have to go out and do the job. I don’t feel there will be so much pressure on us. We will just enjoy it. Without the World Champion riding in our team, we are the underdogs, so we will have a go.”
Holder will be racing alongside best friends and Poole stars, Darcy Ward and Dave Watt along with Peterborough stars Troy Batchelor and Rory Schlein. This surely will be an entertaining event with plenty at stake to reach the final in Vojens, Denmark.

Australia’s three-time Speedway World Champion Jason Crump has recovered well from an operation to repair damage to his upper arm, finishing second at the Scandinavian Speedway Grand Prix in Malilla today, the round was won by Rune Holta
Despite only undergoing the operation three weeks ago, Crump returned to the track last Tuesday and spearheaded Swedish Elite League team Vetlanda to a 49-46 victory over Vargarna.
Crump, who has maintained impressive form following his surgery, took 15 championship points from today’s event and further reduced the points gap to world championship rival Jaroslaw Hampel in second.
“I had a pretty good day and most importantly I felt quite comfortable,” Crump stated.
“Having only had the operation three weeks ago I was a little unsure of how strong I would be so it was very pleasing to come away scoring points in all but one race.
“In the final Rune checked out and I battled with Thomsz for second throughout the race before finally pulling away from him on the last lap," Crump finished.
Winner Rune Holta said, “My goal has always been a medal. But I’ll take it one meeting at a time. If I keep up the same form as I produced last year, it will be good," the 36-year-old concluded.
Australian Chris Holder missed the cut after his debut win at Cardiff in July. Holder began with two last places including a titanic battle with Crump.
Holder though scored in each of his remaining heats, a second third time out preceeding a heat 13 victory. But in his final ride he was beaten by wild card Tomas H Jonasson and the eventual meeting winner Rune Holta for a 6 point tally which leaves him with 66 series points ranking him 6th in the standings with four rounds remaining.
The meeting saw Tomasz Gollob regain the series lead, stealing a march on his Polish rival Jaroslaw Hampel, despite sustaining a leg and hand injury when he impetuously tried to drill by Emil Sajfutdinov in heat 20.
The crash saw the young Russian, fresh back from a broken arm that had forced him to miss the previous 3 rounds, sustain a suspected broken wrist, whilst Gollob went on to win his semi-final and then finish third in the final, behind runner-up Crump and winner Holta who becomes the 6th different winner of a GP round this season.
Jason Crump will head straight to Poland for tomorrows Polish League quarter final where he will line up for Wroclaw when they take on Torun.

Jason Crump closing in on 4th world title.
Crumpy has had a tough year so far but has closed to within 10 points of the championship lead.
It looks like he is using consistancy to get within striking distance and once he's fully fit, look out.
-
Well thats what I thought a few weeks ago.
If anyone deserves a World Title even for persistance alone its Tomasz Gollob, up till now he has been one of the best riders not to win.
But the fat lady hasn't sung yet.
-
Yeah if it was'nt going to be an Aussie winner and after another round win in Italy last night and an up and down meeting for a couple of challengers I'm happy to see Gollob as the new and 2011 World Speedway Champion. As always a couple of ordinary races and quite a few corkers. Unfortunatly no Aussies made it thru to final with Watts, Holder and Crump all having an up and down night for a few reasons.
-
Hi Colmoody ,,where's your info coming from.??.I've been all over the net this morning and as usual aust is a bit slow on these events and results :(
cheers

It was live on Fox Sports this morning.
Cheers

Yeah if it was'nt going to be an Aussie winner and after another round win in Italy last night and an up and down meeting for a couple of challengers I'm happy to see Gollob as the new and 2011 World Speedway Champion.
A just reward for a long career at the top. Probably would have won a couple more titles, just unlucky to have been racing at the same time as Crump, and more so Tony Rickardsson. Not too sure I'd be happy about him being the 2011 champ though, Col... :D

Time to go fishing....It was an Italian disaster for Australian speedway bike superstar Jason Crump, earning just seven points at the FIM Nice Italian Speedway Grand Prix, ending his 2010 title dreams.
Engine failure plagued the three-time world champion’s hopes of back-to-back titles, with rival Tomasz Gollob confirmed as 2010 Speedway Grand Prix series winner.
Heading into the second last event of the season, Crump needed a podium finish to ensure the series went down to the final round in Poland, but the Aussie could not deliver, finishing the event with a season-low seven championship points.
“It just wasn’t a good day,’’ he said.
“The bottom line is I rode badly and didn’t do much right.
“The track wasn’t good, but we adapted and got the setup right.”
Just when Crump thought the setup was right the weather gods chimed in, throwing a spanner in the works.
“Then it rained and it looked like it was going to be soft, but it was actually quite hard,’’ he said.
“I made all the wrong choices at the wrong times.’’
Despite the disappointment of missing out on his fourth speedway crown, Crump will be keen to finish the season on a high note, as he looks to continue his amazing streak of nine consecutive top-three series finishes.
This model of consistency has seen Crump earn a season-ending podium finish every year since 2001.
The final round of the 2010 Speedway Grand Prix season takes place in Poland, starting October 9.

“I made all the wrong choices at the wrong times.’’ An honest assessment of your own performances, refreshing to hear that from a true World Championship Title winner Hey. :)
-
Jeez I'll say. Usually it's all everyone else's fault (btw not sure just how much setup there can be on a chassis with no suspension !) but he's fessed up this time. Crump does have his off nights from time to time but he's also ridden some of the most fearsome first laps you'll ever see... :o

One of North Queensland's best ever Solo riders, Merv Janke, is the latest star rider to nominate for the Gillman Classic Championships meeting to be held on Saturday night, 30 October.
Janke started riding in Townsville as a teenager and in 1977, at age 20, travelled to the UK where he joined Scottish team Coatbridge. He stayed with the "Tigers", who relocated to Glasgow, until 1979, when he also "doubled-up" with Halifax in the first division. He went full-time with Halifax in 1980, but missed the 1981 season, before returning for a final season in 1972 when he averaged 6.39 from 20 matches.
He continued to ride in Australia where even a broken back suffered at Townsville in 1988 failed to curb his enthusiasm, and he was one of the very best riders in the Queensland State League in the early 1990s when he regularly scored maximum points.
Janke is being sponsored by Bill's Bits & Bikes and will compete in the two valve and four valve Solo classes.
As well as Janke a number of other interstate riders are amongst the nominations received so far, including fellow Townsville rider Roy Stout, who has won the 2 valve class for the past three years. Last year's placegetters Kevin Webb, the spectacular Western Australian rider, and Mark Mitchell will also ride, as will another past placegetter, Rick Smith.
Webb's fellow WA riders Barry Kennington and Jim Phillips are also returning to compete in the JAP/ESO class for riders over 50, where they will be up against defending champion Jeff Fisher, regular placegetter Ken Carratt from the A.C.T., and former Rowley Park rider Bruce Smith.
Dave Wilkinson, from NSW, is Janke's main opposition in the Evolution (4 valve) class at the moment with nominations down on last year's numbers and only a few days to go before nominations close.
Riders are reminded nominations for the event close with the last mail on 4 October 2010, and late nominations will not be accepted.
The Supp Regs and Nomination Form can be found on the Gillman Speedway website on the Nominations page. http://www.gillmanspeedway.com/

Newly-crowned world champion Tomasz Gollob hopes the FIM Speedway Grand Prix series gold medal stays in Poland “for a while now” after collecting the sport’s biggest prize in Bydgoszcz on Saturday night.
The 39-year-old went into the 2010 FIM Bydgoszcz SGP of Poland with the title guaranteed after triumphing in Terenzano on September 25. This was fortunate for the Gorzow and Vastervik star, as he suffered a broken ankle in a motocross crash on Wednesday.
After extensive medical treatment, he was determined to race in his home town and stormed to victory in heat two. But Gollob’s engine seized in his second outing, before he pulled up in his third as the pain got the better of him and forced him to withdraw from the meeting.
He returned to the rostrum to milk the sold-out, 20,000-plus Polonia Stadium crowd’s applause and collect the gold medal he has been chasing for over two decades.
His fellow countryman Jaroslaw Hampel completed a special night for Polish speedway by beating former world champion Jason Crump to the silver medal.
The meeting was won by Bydgoszcz rider Andreas Jonsson, who passed British champion Chris Harris to win the gold, while wild card Janusz Kolodziej reached his second final in as many SGP outings and picked up the bronze. Rune Holta finished fourth in the final to secure fourth overall in the standings.
But the biggest Polish smile belonged to Gollob. Despite being barely able to stand, he was delighted to take his place atop the SGP series rostrum. It may have been 37 years since Poland last crowned a world champion, but Gollob hopes his country will not have to wait so long next time.
“I have to admit it has been a hard season. It has been very, very hard. Congratulations to Crumpie and Jarek for the last year," Gollob said.
"They have very much put me under pressure over the 11 meetings we’ve had together.

The young blokes coming home to Oz,,If you catch him out on a good swell, let him know he's a bloody great Aussie Hero :P 8)
As the rain and cold begin to blanket the UK and Europe, one of many Australian sports people are just weeks away from boarding a plane back to the sunny warm shores of our Great Southern Land.
One such aussie hero is Chris Holder.
By the time this article hits the streets, Chris' overseas campaign will be done for 2010.
It would be an understatement to say that Chris has had a busy year. Riding for 3 teams in 3 countries and competing in his first year in the SGP series, Chris has learnt alot.
"Yeah its been a massive year for sure. I have struggled a little this past couple of months. It's a big learning curve and I believe that I will be much better for it next year". says Chris.
You have to put into perspective what an athlete like Chris does on a weekly basis. He is not only a great speedway rider but he is his own manager and does all the business dealings and contract negotiations for himself. Flying between three countries consistently as he rides for Poole in the UK, Lejonen in Sweden and Torun in Poland and then several countries for the SGP rounds.
It's really no wonder why an athlete like Chris can get tired and drained from this kind of relentless schedule. It's not all plane flights either. Often there are drives of up to 14 hours to get to the next event, with only the thin foam mattress to keep you off the cold steel of the team van. On many occasions throughout his international campaign Chris wouldn't see his own place for weeks on end. So you can imagine how difficult it would be to stay on top of your health and fitness as well as be totally switched on and ride in one of the worlds most dynamic and hectic bike sports on earth.
"I'm thinking I may do things a little differently next year. Mainly in the way I handle the workload. Some of the guys race in Europe only and not the UK, this means they have up to 40 meeting less than I normally have. So I think I need to manage all my commitments in Europe better". Chris says.
With a smarter race schedule, Chris will be a lot fresher physically and mentally for the 2011 SGP series.
Chris continues, "I learnt a lot this year about that series [SGP]. Some of the tracks were my weak link and I know what to do to correct that for next year. It's a matter of riding better for the conditions. Some of the tracks were real slick. The guys I'm racing like Hancock and Golob have the experience to do this. So I will be working on being more consistent and stronger on the tracks that I typically find challenging".
Chris said that he has been happy with the bikes that he was running overseas this year. The equipment was definitely up to the challenge and Chris plans to keep it the same next year.
At this point I have to say that watching the final round of the SGP series was literally nail bitting for me personally. Sitting inside the top eight with a good buffer of points for a large percentage of the series, Chris found it difficult to gain a good haul of points in the last two rounds in particular. With two rivals making the final and fast gaining points on Chris, it was a tense 4 laps to see if Chris would make the automatic qualifying top eight or not.
Chris tells: "Well yeah it was pretty intense to make the top eight in the end by just one point. I was thinking whatever happens, happens. Just quietly I was really relieved". [laughs]
"Im really looking forward to taking some time off back home in Oz, recharge the batteries and get ready for the Australian titles".
Chris along with his Australian sponsors, Castrol, Unifilter and Rampant Clothing will be putting on a riders and media day in the new year, where Chris will talk about riding techniques, setups and life as a rider overseas. There will also be a master class coaching element to the day where Chris will actually show these techniques and help juniors and seniors hone their skills on a speedway bike. So stay tuned for dates and availability coming up later this year.
A keen surfer, when the waves are about, Chris will be looking forward to going out for a wave with his dad as soon as he gets back. Chris's dad Mick says: "Yeah it will be great to have both Chris and James back home, it never gets any easier seeing them off, so we will be real happy to have them back. I'll give em a week on the lounge then they can come to work with me". [laughs]
If you haven't witnessed a speedway event yet, you need to. A lot of the big names are heading back to Australia for the National titles. Also on show will be the up and coming riders trying to showcase their talents against their fellow countrymen. So it will be a great series no question.

Good post Alison, a great insight into the life of an up & coming Speedway rider. For those who haven't ridden on the ovals it might sound a bit strange that you could struggle on different tracks. How hard could it be? Go out of the start & turn left. Given that it is a sprint, you don't have to be off the pace by much and forget it. Interesting that there was no mention of Crumpy at all, I hope there is no bad blood there, it's hard enough but to do it all on your own is near impossible.
-
you don't have to be off the pace by much and forget it.
We have a vmx rider who did the slidz for a few years and to watch him go into the corners now is different to say the least ;D really good rider and still no fear at over 55- mix that with a vmx sidecar pilot and its :o :o :o
cheers

whoo hoo!,Chris Holder done good! ;D,good crowd,good track,good vibes, :P
-
and theres more :P..................Chris Holder has taken out the 2011 Australian Solo Speedway Championship ahead of Darcy Ward and Davey Watt at Mildura, while Ward took the round win in an epic late-night race meet.
While reigning Champ, Chris Holder, seemed a certainty coming into the round, a niggling injury from the second round, and a series of crashes at Mildura, almost ruled out back-to-back titles for the Appin local.
As the mercury climbed at the Mildura track, so too did riders tempers when track work was called for, however with racing underway, fans certainly got their money's worth as the meeting continued into the early hours of the morning.
After four rounds and hours of intense racing it came down to the wire with Series leaders Holder and Watt both failing to make the B final and throwing the Championship points into disarray.
Solid performances from Ty Proctor, Kozza Smith, Justin Sedgmen and Kyle Newman saw them lining up for the B final with Newman proving the man to beat – progressing into the A final.
Joining Newman in the A final were two times Under 21 World Champion Darcy Ward, Rory Schlein and Cam Woodward, who would battle it out to determine both the round and Championship standings.
After a slow Championship campaign, Ward found form in the A final, leading in both the re-run and again in the final race to take the chequered flag - tying him on points for second place overall with Watt.
Lining up for the Run Off, Ward was a man on a mission, leading Watt from the second the tapes flew up, and occasionally looking back over his shoulder to see if he was home free before taking the flag and second place in the Championship.
Despite failing to make the finals, Holder's points buffer secured him the overall win marking his second consecutive National Title – and third Solo Championship.
Speaking after the event, Holder was happy with the win, however acknowledged it was hard won.
"I started off the Series quite well – I had a win but then in Gillman I had a big crash which hurt me pretty badly and it's been a struggle ever since," Holder said.
"I knew tonight was going to be the hardest round which it proved to be, and it was just good I had a win at Broken Hill to give me that buffer so I didn't risk too much tonight, even though I still threw myself on the track a couple of times tonight! "I'm stoked with the win, it's what I've come back for, and I've got to thank the other boys for the competition."
For more information on the Championship and to read Holder's latest blog check out www.ma.org.au.

A 4th title doesn't look too prommising, still early days.
Crumpy 5 points, said he forgot to race at the opening GP.
Chris Holder faired a bit better with 9 points.
I don't know how to post a link but you can read all the news at the Speedway GP website.
Where is Alison when you need her?
-
hey nice website :P :P
Just right click on link and copy and then paste onto this page

-
Holder sitting in 5th & Crump in 8th, a fair way behind.
Good to see two old farts setting the pace, Hancock & Gollob.
-
As patriotic as I am, I also love a tryer, that's why I'm hoping Greg Hancock can win this years World title.
The little guy's been around for what seems like forever but hasn't quite had the luck to pull off the big one. If ever he's going to win a championship this has to be the year.
-
I'm pretty sure that Hancock won one real early in his career but even so he's certainly a persistant little bloke and would fully deserve another one.
-
You're right Steve, Greg Hancock won the title back in 1997...so long ago I'd totally forgotten it ::).
Seeing that it was 14 years ago gives an indication of how long he's been around.
-
was watching lastnites Prague GP's,Hancock was leading, then the missus came home >:(,(fugging Jeremy Irons the Borgias),what happened did he hold gollob off?,think the commentator said he 'd just turned 41 too, :P
-
If you did'nt get to watch the last round of the SGP from Poland early last Sunday morning do yourselves a favour and go to You Tube and in the space bar type in Torun Speedway Grand Prix of Poland 2011- Heat 12. One of the best I've seen. Sorry I dont know how to do the link thing. I reckon sliderulz might even have a little wet patch after watching this one if he has'nt seen it already.

OOOOOAAAAAAAGGGHHH, Viagra to an old Speedway rider.
More overtaking in 1 minute than an entire Moto GP season ;D
Darcy rode bloody good and even did a touch of grasstracking.
I had a long chat with Darcy's father up in Bris and they seem to be a great family.
He's got a big future.
Great footage of the speed difference between a bike getting drive and one that's spinning up.
Love it.

GO DARCY!
-
Crumpy 2nd and Holder 4th last weekend in Denmark.
Hancock 1st and looks to have it sewn up, his 2nd title and 13 years since his last, Mr Persistance.
-
Not a good start for some in Denmark tonight.Let race begin....and a big fat Aussie Cracker end...yeehaaaa!! On ya Mr Crump.
-
Crumpy wins in Denmark and sits in second overall just 2 points behind Hancock.
Chris Holder had a dissapointing night but is still in touch sitting in 4th.
-
Chris Holder 2nd in Poland and moves to equal 2nd with Crumpy overall, 9 points behind Hancock.
Crumpy had an off night and 2 wildcard Poles made the final with one winning on a very wet track.

Go Crumpet!

Triple World Champion Jason Crump sustained a broken collarbone after crashing during a Russian League match at Vladivostok yesterday.
Crump, who currently lies second in the 2012 FIM Speedway Grand Prix World Championship title chase, is now flying directly to Geneva in Switzerland to undergo immediate surgery to repair the collarbone.
The Australian remains optimistic that he will line up at the next round of the World Championship in Croatia on 28 July.
“My sponsors Red Bull have arranged the surgery and their specialist medical team will plate the collarbone,” said Crump.
“I will miss meetings in Poland and Sweden this week but I hope to be fit enough to ride in the next Grand Prix in Croatia in just over a week’s time.”
