XL350 Hotup
« on: May 14, 2009, 07:58:17 PM »
8)Ok guys I have a XL350 centre port (see last pic in "just a photo" post bike 775) with 38mm carb & big bore header, what's the next step in making the old girl go a little better, thinking 250 flywheel, cam (any suggestions) and a big bore kit, does any body know what piston fits.

Thanks

Bikes and Bits Importers in west aust can supply a wosner big bore piston kit,you will need a bigger sleeve to make a job of it.
I have the part no. here somewhere if you need it.
an inner rotor cdi will give you easy starting and almost eliminate the flywheel weight.

the guys at BBimporters are great! Very friendly, easy to deal with and very fast with orders. I ordered 2 bearings on wednesday and they came the next day, and i also ordered a rod kit yesterday and it came this morning.

When they rock up to an event they have everything to ride and everything to fix bits with...(not that they have bike troubles)  :)
Down to earth fellow bike people, ;D and always have a smile on their dial.  8)

Nissan Skyline RB30 pistons also fit but are a bit on the heavy side. They give 420cc.

Is there a kit to do this change to CDI with innner rotor or do I make it up from bits, I have seen the odd post about pitbike CDI's being fitted with mix results.

Thanks guys all good information keep it coming how about a cam grind to suit.

A quick hot up for them is to use an XR 350 std piston kit this takes it out to 408cc. The deck height is 2mm lower on the XR piston so you will need to machine 2mm from the base of the cylinder. You will need to use a new cam chain and guides. Also the valve reliefs need to be machined ( 0r ground) to suit the "Square" valves. I also machined a fair bit from the crank bells to lighten it. I did run a total loss ign using a bosch electronic off a V8 falcon. very acurate but had to use a heavy battery. This allowed me to remove the flywheel to recover the weight but made the engine too snappy.
