I am not certain as to the value of the white "plastic tank" 1984 bikes as opposed to the more traditional pre 1984 look, save to say that the current market place seems to discount these bikes significantly.

Hello Mate, if you want roadspeed for cross country events or vinduro, then I would think you are better off with an XC or WR or AE. My CRs are pretty slow in outright speed terms in top gear. Any ideas anyone?

In my experience, the main negatives with these "evo" 500 husqvarnas is a lack of braking, quite hard to start, generally temperamental and not very practical for regular use. The CR might be the most sought after now, but I do not think they are the best to live with, particularly if you are intending regular off road and use beyond the racing track. I am tipping vinduro will grow in popularity too.

We have a number of 500 Huskies.

All very easy to start ,cold or hot when you have the knack.

Very reliable and very , very fast , particularly the XC-500, shit , now these things really haul arse , although its very hard to beat the ride a 83 model CR-500 gives.

Brakes , well most Open class EVO bikes struggle one way or another on the braking side of things

Ha! The Knack......
Go on, fess up Mate. You know what the knack is for cold starting a 83/84 500 Husky? Live on top of a big hill and bump start the thing. Make sure you've drained the bowl if she's been sitting for a coupla weeks because pushing it back up that hill is a world of hurt.... :-) From experience.... :-)

The "knack" for starting my '83 XC500 (I don't own the bike now) when cold was 3-4 priming kicks with choke, turn choke off, kick for real and away she goes. No problems whatsoever. 1st or 2nd kick every time when hot. This is standing beside the bike on a crate, kicking with your right foot. Pretty much the same with my CR390 now. Still easier than a 490 Maico in my experience.
Cheers,
K

I see that Dead Dog Racing has a WR500 for sale that looks ok . The price seems reasonable as well . Normally , I find their prices are a bit over the top .

Thanks for your comments regarding the "knack" Michael. I just wonder about the long term implications on my bones etc of kick starting these beasts year after year.
