Frickin' eBay!!!
« on: November 06, 2016, 10:17:49 AM »
Is ebay getting more frustrating or is it just me! Listed two large (heavy) parts lots as pick up only, both been sold, however somehow ebay, in it's wisdom has put a postage price of $15.40 on a pick up only listing. Now comes the shit fight with the buyers. Grrrrr!

I always select "local pickup only" when I list anything on ebay. That stops them adding postage and their cut of that too.

Then I sort out postage/freight/pickup with the buyer.

I had some korkhead wanting me to mail a $30 set of golf clubs and bag from Brisbane to Canberra because ebay stuck a postage price in there.

That's just it though Krikey, my listings are always 'local pick up", however somehow ebay has tacked a postage price on (a ridiculous one at that). I'm just about over ebay.

I too, am "just about over eBay".

Another case of rampant greed spoiling a good thing.
eBay have a vested interest in you charging top dollar for shipping.
That's why it's so hard to do otherwise. (And it auto resets to increase they fees paid.)

With the wide variety in packing and postage costs I find their automatic default setting an expensive guess. I'd rather auction something + postage at costs.

I've tried writing explanations in the advert, but it's beyond many people's attention span or reading comprehension. A whole other story.

What are the alternatives? Gumtree is not without its, "eccentric" element of members.
"I'm calling about the motorbike on Gumtree."
"Yes, and you're doing it inappropriately late at night!"

I guess I'm old and grumpy, but should it be an unattainable dream to have an efficient and pain free way to buy and sell second hand items?
(As I've mentioned previously; I liked "Trade Me" NZ, but I'm sure they have messed with that in the 8 years since I've used it.)

I'm not a seller on ebay coz don't know how to do pics but last purchase they wanted me to pay with pay pal straight away where I prefer to pay when ive  finish shopping for the night not for every purchase. ill agree some of the post prices scare me off buying as too dear for just 1 item off of a seller and ive found it hard to contact sellers to try to get a more realistic post price, yeah its gone to the dogs that's for sure

And on it goes, the buyer is questioning why I can't post 40+ kg of parts for the $15.40 ebay listed as the postage amount. But ebay said it was $15,40..........

Are there any other options, bikesales etc?

I just bought a 1981 RM125 triple clamp from the US. My (very understanding) girlfriend was working in the US for a few weeks so I thought I could buy the $10 part and avoid the $70 postage. ("Baby, are your bags near the weight limits?")
Seller was happy to quote US shipping. I couldn't "request a quote" to get this on the listing as I only had one item in the cart.
I rang eBay and got "English as a second language assistance". I had to create a new address in the states (motel) then eBay calculated a different postage rate to the one quoted.... it was a couple of bucks more... I just paid that...I should have tapered headset bearings soon enough..)

My current solution is to only buy, and never sell. (Gets rid of at least half the frustration.)
Trouble is: the next thing I'll need to buy is a bigger shed. And the one I've got isn't small.

I believe ebay bought it out, as they have done to Gumtree recently :(

Market monopolisation I hear you say?

Hi bought a Rubber carbie boot for 24 US dollars, click on it, no shipping price, so I message the seller, he can back with a shipping price of 71 US Dollars, I said to him did you pluck that price from thin air, I had to pay for it, because I clicked the buy it now. wasn`t happy.
