Oxy/Acet' deal from Bunnings
« on: October 11, 2015, 06:17:14 PM »
May have been mentioned before --

http://www.bunnings.com.au/search/products?q=coregas%20cylinders&redirectFrom=Any

$200 each deposit for the bottles, keep em till the gas is used, then go back and get full bottles and just leave the deposit with Bunnings, cost -- could say loss of bank interest on 400 = $12 per annum

Gas is $60 oxy, $99 Acet.

Standard fittings so the CIG Comet gear and gauges are ok.

Bottles are 2.1 m sq  about 2 foot 6 in high and about 8 in in diam

From what I can figure out ...you pay no monthly rental but they retain a deposit of $200-00 per bottle and only pay for refills

I purchased mig and tig gas bottles from speedy gas via welding shop at Penrith. Only little bottles but you can upgrade to bigger sizes if you want to.
Best money ever spent!

wonder if that deal is happening in little ol nz--doubt it though!!. Haven't used my oxy/accetylene plant for a few years due to cost of hiring bottles from BOC. Think it was about 15 a month per bottle [maybe more now] plus filling of course which was similar to oz. Must go check it out. Thanks.

If you return the bottles you get your $400 back

I wonder if this will prompt a retaliatory response from BOC ? I too kept Oxy and Acet at home for the odd jobs, until the prices became hard to justify.

Looks like Coregas is their supplier.
CoreGas have been around many years, must be at least 10 years ago they changed their name from LindeGas
Had a look on the Coregas site and can't see a similar offer so it must be a Bunnings deal only.

BOC aren't the only players in the gas game, as well as Coregas there is also AirLiquide & Supergas.

Supergas being Aussie owned and easy to deal with.

Air Liquide have a dud deal where they effectively charge you double rent if you don't return the bottles at least every 3 months.

Haven't tried Coregas/Linde for over a decade now so not sure what their like at the moment

I've been getting my argon from gasweld for a couple of years now. I had to buy the bottle but I'm already in front compared to the rape and pillaging I received from BOC. I've known about the Bunnings deal on oxy/acetylene for a while but am just waiting till my next rent is due as I still have a fair bit of gas in both. It will be great to see the end of BOC - greedy bastards. I don't do that much gas welding, mainly just pipes and the odd bit of silver soldering and heating, meaning I often go for years without refilling, so the Bunnings deal will be perfect. I will be able to spend all that rental money on more important things....

I have this deal as well. The rental was the thing holding me back from getting a set as I only use it now and again. I noticed the last time I was in my local Total Tools that they have a similar deal but have bigger bottles available also. Argoshield for mig too.

It's interesting that BOC is part of the Linde Group, do they own Coregas as well?

Hmmm.... interesting Dave. Geoff mentioned previously "CoreGas have been around many years, must be at least 10 years ago they changed their name from LindeGas", this makes me wonder (conspiracy theory) if they aren't all the same company who would like us to think that there is competition?
