Moto X Fox swingarm to 1980 Honda CR250R

Gents - finally got around to "fitting" the KLP Fox swingarm I have to my 1980 250 today.  Swingarm fits up Ok but then with the different mount points the Fox Air Shox upper bodies are catching on the frame and can't swing forward enough to be bolted at the bottom.

A bit of reading I have done has suggested either grinding the Fox air bodies (not keen on that at all) - or dimpling the frame contact point with a ball peen hammer - seems more logical but a bit drastic.

So before going ahead thought I would check with you guys and see if there were other alternatives out there?

Probably no other options apart from extended top mounts. There was an option for 1&1/2" top mounts (std 1")  but then they will increase overall length and i doubt you want that. I would just dimple the frame.

Seems like everyone that has that set up has the same problem Roscoe.  I read this on another forum..

"Put the shock in the top mount and mark the contact point with a sharpe. Remove the shock. Take a round rachet extension bar and lay it across the contact point, and smack it with a hammer. The roundness of the extension bar will make a small indent in the frame for clearance. Don't overdo it. All you need is a trace of daylight between the shock and frame. The mod isn't noticable, and doesn't hurt the integrity of the frame."

You can also cut the shock spacer on the inside of the swingarm tab and shim the bottom out a little. I ended up doing all 3, happily my shocks had already had a little grinding on them so not like I was raping the Sabine virgins. If you have the shocks in full extension then you only need to see daylight against the frame.

Gents - as much as I disliked it I "dimpled" the frame to get the Fox Shox in - looks OK as far as the job goes.  Next question I have - is there anyone on here who could send me a photo of the rear axle set up - just to make sure I have the right spacers in place etc.  Also - I noticed with the rear wheel fitted in place - not tightened up etc - the wheel is back as far as it can go and the sprocket retaining bolts are catching on the chain guide - rubber section.  Is it simply a case of trimming up the rubber section of the guide?

I've got some pictures of my CR John. I will send them through (haven't figured the download thing yet)
I dimpled mine.
I've got the Thor swing arm and also have an issue of the wheel rubbing on the swing arm on one side. (spacers are in the correct way) and chain roller being too close.
I got a Phil Denton chain lowering roller (amongst other stuff) put it on the other day. makes a big difference.

Trick bit of kit the Phil Denton parts. Really nicely made.

thanks - whilst I have the time any info greatly appreciated.  I have the KLP chain roller lowering kit so that will be OK but the chain guide looks too long and was wondering whether I need to trim the rubber section up to fit.  Also - came with no instructions - just want to check on spacers etc.

New front wheel comes back tomorrow    Back wheel next I think.

I have found the rear wheels on the 78-80 CR250's need to be test fitted  in the bike to check wheel offset before tightening the spokes, They will still  not sit exactly in the middle of the swingarm though, They are a strange set up , I have a DG arm with a 120 tyre & no probs, mate had his laced by a wheel pro with no offset specs & not having the bike to test fit & he can only run a 100 because of clearance issues, The tyre looks way too narrow
