DT1-3 / RT1-3 /YZ250 etc clutuch actuator repair.
« on: May 06, 2014, 03:41:44 PM »
Thought this may be of some use to those demented owners of the early Yam's with a worn out or broken clutch actuator worm.
Don't know how to add a photo but her is a link to them on Ebay

They are made of bronze and press on to the original actuator. I believe they are the same of the one available in the early 70's.

Only problem is if the housing side of the set up is worn then it's a waste of time as it will just jamb up.....it's a 50% repair at best.

They worked ok in the 70's. I had one in my RT3 for years and it was more positive than the plastic rubbish.
Gary Semmens has one of the new ones fitted in his RT1 and is more than happy with it.
As for the price, if the demand was there for thousands of the things they would be cheaper but compared to the $440 dollar alternative!! They keep the bike looking period as well.

Yes but the $440 one is like a hydraulic modern clutch . If you have hands like Arnnie or pump iron all day but my old pinkies are all bent and buggered , for show days I use the standard set up for race go with the good easy to use set up . note I have used all the systems including the pivot style , I'll stick with the QLD made unit thanks . If you want a light action you just weld an extension into the arm. The bronze worms are QLD made as well.

Been there , there is nothing wrong with the worm drive but you need to up grade the cover as well , most are so worn that they have a Cpl of mm play . Ive used the inserts off the 500 and 750 4banger Yamahas and re machined them to fit , Im just saying that the whole unit is well worth it , 1 it makes the YZ a and b legal to race ,2 all parts are there to get if you bugger it . Sleepy, thanks for the part. It really helped out my mate and I recommend this as a substitute for a hard to come by part!!

I bought two of the bronze ones as I have two housings, and they both fit nicely and should work well. I haven't fitted one to the bike as I have made up previously an old fashioned lever set up which works well and is as light as a feather.

 recommended!
