Husky barrel-Stuck :(
« on: June 07, 2013, 04:57:50 AM »
Has anyone had a Husky barrel stuck onto the cases before? I'm giving my 82 WR430 a freshen up for Harrow and I can't get the barrel off the cases? My next idea was to heat the barrel and cases up a bit? I'm guessing there is no hidden bolts? Only the 4 main studs that hold the barrel and head down?
Thanks Dewy.

Dirt, mud, gunge or corrosion around the studs holes in the cylinder. They can be a right prick to get off sometimes. Clean around & in the stud holes as best you can. I have been relieving the top of the holes a bit & fitting & an o'ring to each one before re-assembly to try to eliminate the problem for down the track.

I have had the problem. Eventually came free after quite a bit of soaking with WD40 and plenty of patience, but certainly is frustrating. You will get there in the end, but probably not in a hurry.

when you finally get it off you will probably end up with a load of dirty falling into the crank.. be careful of that one.

Carl

The workshop manual I read for these models suggests turning the whole motor (crank cases and barrel) upside down to take the barrel off. That way the dirt doesn't drop into the crank cases. Strange system but true I am afraid.

I ended soaking the studs/barrel holes in CRC for a day. Then ratchet strapped the barrel up to the frame and gave the barrel a good hit with a rubber mallet and it came off  ;D
I put a rag in the crank cases as soon as I could get it in there. But think I will pull the engine out and give the crank cases a good clean out.
Thanks for the help. Dewy.
