I was looking for a similar black box and couldn't find one in time for CD7 so I used one from a YZ80J and it worked just fine. There's a spark you could weld with so unless it does something horrible to my DT400 outside flywheel ignition, it'll stay.

if youa re looking at the UK - try Rex Caunt Racing.  Service is exceptional and these guys also sell PVL parts - bit rare I found as most palces want to send you a complete unit at $500USD!

All the best

Hi vandy010,
It has a total of 8 wires.  2 lots of 3 wires, terminate into 2 black triangular shape connectors. 1 x 2 wires, terminate into 1 oval shape black connector. Some of the colours are; Black, Black/White stripe, Yellow, Red, Brown. Not sure of the rest as it is not with me at the moment.
Cheers,
Wayne.
Wayne,
real sorry mate but i've turned my garage upside down and for the life of me can't find the one i was thinking of but from memory, i think it was different to what you've described above.
sorry mate,

I found the australian electrex world web site and it has got the cdi for $354.00 which is a bit pricey but they say that the yz cdi is the same from 1976 to 1984 . I hope this gives you more options.

Hi jimg1au,
Unbelieveable!. Thanks mate. Another bodgy part on this bike,( I didn't know about ) that I bought from Dribbledrudge. just looked at my parts book and you are right. Would cost me a small fortune to get it to original ( stator & CDI ) but this set up works. Will stay with CDI Unit with 8 wires, unless original performes better. Has anyone compared ?
