Weather looks good for the weekend, I've got a leave pass for Sunday, and the IT goes. Fingers crossed I'll get there, it's over 12 months since I last had a ride in the bush!! I've been ODing on VTR videos and photos the past few days, it really is a brilliant concept. Looks like lots of people having lots of fun...

Thanks for your kind words Kenneth, and for stepping up to take on the role of managing OzVMX. To be honest, I think it will reinvigorate the whole thing as I have really let the bar drop over the past couple of years.

So a big welcome to the new team, and here's to a bright future for OzVMX.

General Discussion / Re: OzVMX to close
« on: September 13, 2016, 09:35:54 PM »
I recently posted on the ozVMX forum and issued an email to all members of the ozvmx.com website that I would be closing all of these sites and the Facebook page. However, I have had several people/groups contact me in regard to possibly taking over from me and I am in discussions about that possibility.

As a result, all three sites will continue for now until discussions have resulted in an outcome one way or the other. At that time I will inform everybody of next steps. I do expect some changes to occur.

Thanks so much for all your kind words. I am away from home on family matters (been quite a year for that) with access via phone only and I hate typing on that!

Just to clarify, I am closing the Facebook group and the Ning site as soon as I get back home. The forum will remain active until July next year when the current server subscription expires. I will have to think about what happens then - perhaps I will keep it online but not active...

And as far as what I am up to rather than VMX, well in dirtbike terms its modern dirt track but my main passion now is trying to change the world. Got Buckleys of achieving that but I believe I have to give it a shot. The things you end up doing eh?

General Discussion / OzVMX to close
« on: September 01, 2016, 08:37:54 PM »
Dear all,

The time has at last come for me to close OzVMX. I am no longer interested in vintage dirtbikes, and the effort of managing the forum, website and Facebook page are more than I wish to continue with.

The Facebook group is utter shite - I am so regretting ever starting that. It will be closed by the end of September.

The Ning site I never look at and have no idea how it is going, but Ning has now told me that they are increasing the fees for it to well over 2 times as much as I currently pay. Given how hard it was to get support to continue OzVMX this year, it seems unlikely I can raise $1500 in future. The new pricing takes effect from 1 October, so I will close that site at that time.

I should like to close the forum at that time as well, however I have renewed the server account for one more year following the donations received a few weeks ago, so the forum will remain active until July 2017.

Thanks for all the kind comments, support and interest over the 12 years OzVMX has been going. It's been fun most of the time and I had some great times when I was an active competitor in the VMX scene.

Please note I will be out of town over the next week, so will be only looking in intermittently.

All the best to you all.

Graeme M

I've been keeping an eye on this thread given some of the comments. Heaven VMX started this thread to promote an event and encourage participation. Please keep that in mind and also the intent of this forum, which is about enjoying the sport. I will delete any future negative comments.

Thanks everyone, with your help I've raised the necessary to cover the bills for another year. Fantastic, that's been a great outcome. As I say so often, I really do appreciate it!!

As for the Petshop, yes that was one of mine...

Thanks again to those who have donated so far. Today I paid for my server hosting account for another year - $305 of which $290 was provided via donations. Thank you all so much.

Please if you can spare a few dollars to help keep OzVMX up and running, I still need to raise $600 for support and platform fees.

An update on donations. I don't want to come across too heavy here, but while I am willing to dip into my own pocket a little to keep this forum up and running, that only goes so far. As I said above, in the past when I put out the call for donations I get enough to almost cover my costs (about $1000 a year). Mostly that's in the form of $10 and $20 donations, though a few larger ones sometimes come through. So really I am not asking for a lot from people and I certainly don't expect every member to donate, especially in this day and age. But... so far this year, I've managed to encourage just $150 from over 1000 members.

I spend a couple of hours most nights keeping the forum sorted, the webpage going, and trying to keep up with the crap on the Facebook page. I don't like doing it THAT much.

Please, if you can spare $10, do send it along using the details above. Thanks so much to those of you who have donated so far.

Thank you to those who have sent me donations.

It all helps - my hosting/support costs comes to around $1000 annually so it isn't small change. Most years I get enough in donations to cover much of that but I usually have to dip into my own pocket at some stage. I must admit that Facebook seems a better option to me - easier to manage and no costs at all. But the forum format works better.

Remember, any donation is very welcome!

Here we are, the middle of 2016 already. And 12 years since I started OzVMX, Who'd have thunk?

Anyways, my various hosting fees are now due, so I am reaching out for financial support.  If you enjoy the forum and the web page and you can spare a few bucks to keep the show on the road then I'd really appreciate your help.

Please send any donations, no matter how small, to me via Paypal - gmc99 at bigpond.com

or via direct deposit to

Westpac Tuggeranong ACT
BSB: 732-636
A/C No: 555769
Title: Graeme McElligott

And of course, if you don't like this new-fangled electronic stuff, a cheque to Graeme McElligott at
PO Box 1622
Tuggeranong ACT 2901

will work too....

Remember, this is not expected of anyone and the site will continue all the same. But if you can help out, it really is very much appreciated.

Cheers
Graeme M
