I have communicated with this vendor and my view is that it is not properly race ready either. From memory, it is a US import, so the bike has no Australian Period Race History or Australian History of any significance. I doubt that it has been ridden in Australia to any level at all and certainly it would not have period Australian race history or serious use in "Anger" in the hands of one of the great steerers of the era. To command the quantum of price asked, this is what it ought to have, or in the alternative, a successful and documented race winning European competition history and not be a little known "fly in" from the US.

It is interesting how the WR and XC and also post 1983 models seem to be becoming increasingly desirable.

Chris, I own enough of these Vintage Sweedish things to tell you that these Sweedish bikes can be fair b****s of things with the two stroke motors. Mate, they can be like that leggy blond that broke your heart in high school. They can be difficult to get, hard to get started, impossible to keep going and can go through all your hard earned savings. They can be as temperamental and contentious as all hell and most have have borderline personality disorders. My advice mate is to slowly collect the original parts, but this will take most of the rest of your lifetime, but by then you ought to be able to sell the "original" item to some nutter collector of these things. The collecting will cost you many hours, days and years of wasted time, but in the meantime keep the non original motor in the thing, save to say, try to make it a 250cc four stroke if you can. It will be like comparing your girlfriend from next door to some fashion model. Mate they never a good ride if you have to waste hours and spend lots of time and money getting them to like you. Good luck mate.

Hey, should'nt that DDR watercooled CR500 also have an Ohlin rear shock, as apparently it is some aftermarket brand?

Yeah, you see some pretty nackered husky's on US epay. I submit that some bikes may not be "sold" when they are indicated as having been so and if sold, often for well less than advertised. I have seen proof of this.

Agreed about the WR500 from DDR. Where are they getting these bikes from, are they importing from the US?

Thanks for your comments regarding the "knack" Michael. I just wonder about the long term implications on my bones etc of kick starting these beasts year after year.

In my experience, the main negatives with these "evo" 500 husqvarnas is a lack of braking, quite hard to start, generally temperamental and not very practical for regular use. The CR might be the most sought after now, but I do not think they are the best to live with, particularly if you are intending regular off road and use beyond the racing track. I am tipping vinduro will grow in popularity too.

Hello Mate, if you want roadspeed for cross country events or vinduro, then I would think you are better off with an XC or WR or AE. My CRs are pretty slow in outright speed terms in top gear. Any ideas anyone?

Mate, the condition of the engine is an issue.

I am not certain as to the value of the white "plastic tank" 1984 bikes as opposed to the more traditional pre 1984 look, save to say that the current market place seems to discount these bikes significantly.

I think the bike being auctioned on ebay started out as a CR250, but not an 1982 model as it has a "MN" frame.
