David Gras had a pretty nasty off in the last heat of the pre 75 263cc and over and apparently was unconscious for a short time. He was taken to the John Hunter Hospital (I think) for observation. Also think he might have had some neck pain which is always a bit of a worry for the medicos. Not sure on his progress at this stage but will update when I know more. If anyone else has any news on Davids progress we'd all like to know.

Took some time to treat David at the track as well as wait for another ambulance hence the delay late in the day

Curly, probably the wrong place to bring this up but remember when we were throwing a few old names about the other day, well I reckon that guy you were trying to think of was Len Norris. Pretty sure he was from the same place as Charlie. West Wyalong

Apologies all round for getting that one wrong. Just got off the phone with Peter Lee and it seems that David is out of Hospital and on his way home to Len Norris country as we speak (may even be home now) with a head ache and a sore shoulder. So thats a bit of good news.

Not good news, all those injuries, and all shoulders, which makes me wince in sympathy and apprehension.
Best of luck in recovery to all.
Hope you had better luck in rd3 & Final Col.
The name Druce rings a bell, but I'm probably wrong.

Update on Suzuki 174, (Beggar), looks like riding days are over  for good, ball of collarbone gone and shoulder socket on chest, Specialits have moved him to private hospital from John Junter and further operations this arvo at Warners Bay :'(.

Beggar only started riding last year and was hooked from the outset and has managed to accumulate few bikes in this time, will be a very disappointed lad to say the least :(
I appreciate getting an update Rossco. Get well Beggar.

Hi Gents, Home after a long drive (Thanks to Kelly the better half for driving). Great weekend the Club ran a smooth organised meeting and catered for all or needs thanks Glenn and crew. Sorry for the hold up of proceedings on Sunday arvo but that track is fairly hard when you head butt it,all fairly good just a stiff neck, wounded shoulder & headache. Thanks to Pete Lee, Rod Watts, Mick Gee, Col Moody, Daniel Romeo, Bob Evans & Dad for packing up my pile of bits. Hope the other wounded soldiers have a speedy recovery.
Len Norris is originally from West Wyalong, moved to Griffith about 20 yrs ago. Len has been a great help to Peter & myself in developing our bikes & is always droppping in to offer his advice & expertise in modifing, boring, porting & tuning. About four ago years he has parcially closed his business & now works in a local winery as a maintence person in the Centro room (the hi tech end off the grape juice show) but still has his shop but only does specialised work in his limited spare time. Precision boring, porting and valve work. Best thing is his shed is next to mine (I keep the fridge full of beer Len knows where the door is many late nights in the shed had with a taxi ride home)
I am wondering if the Charlie that is mentioned is not Charlie Edwards from Hay whom cast his own Bultaco pistons, made his own barrell sleeves, along with casting his own smooth bore carbies.
Hi Col if you are having a read of this I should of sold you those parts after the final Cheers Grasy.

Howdy David, Glad to hear your home and ok but for a few aches and pains. I thought Len was from West Wyalong but not that sure that I would have argued the point with Firko. Yeah and the Charlie is Edwards. Did you ever see him ride is Bully Sliders.

I guess we're both right Col ;D
Len is one of the nicest blokes as well as being a fantastic rider. That whole Riverina area produced some great riders over the years and even today you'll find the area to be the centre of the old school dirt track world. The '75 Australian Dirt Track Title meeting at the Pines was the best I ever went to. I well remember the pissup at San Bernardino Winery on Saturday night where us city boys took full advantage of the free bubbly wine while the locals cunningly sat back sipping their 2.2 light beer, knowing well that we'd all be hungover to the hilt the next day in the stinking heat! I also remember Phil Wilson and John Langfield duking it out on the middle of the track after Langfield had taken Phils front wheel out bringing them both down. Phils adreneline was pumping so hard he threw about six punches before he realised he had a broken leg!  I still have my commemorative bottle of port from the event.

Charlies name came up during a conversation I had with Col on the weekend.
Back in the late 60's to mid 70's, 3 of the big guns on Short Circuit were Charlie Edwards, Kevin Fraser & Billy Macdonald. All 3 had protege's from their local region that they guided in their early days, Kevin had Dougie Platts, Billy had my brother Carl and we can't remember who was Charlies. Maybe someone can help out with a name, I don't think he rode for long or all that often but was pretty quick.
I said the name John Druce earlier but he was a Queenslander I think.
Charlie was bloody good and would regularly have the front wheel just off the ground all the way to the first corner.
That makes 3 people I know of who have gone the knuckle with Langy.
Good to hear your on the mend David.

Only three? I've never met anybody with a better ability to upset people as Langy. I saw a bloke deck him behind the Showy pits one night. The bloke threw one humungous haymaker and Langy was on the deck out cold.
About 100 people watching cheered their hearts out. ;D

I was trying to be kind to Langy there.
I should have said people who went the knuckle ON him, not with him.
Must be thick skinned, or something else, cause he kept coming back for more.
