at a grand complete and running is cheap for any vmx bike , vmx isn,t about being able to race cheap bikes afterall , i guess u have to work out what u want to race , the 80 kawa is out of evo , so would have to be pre 85 , a long way (4 years )from the yam 250 ,so u would be against liquy cool disc equiped kx,s ect ,what nathan was saying about putting the n model yz back to l spec,s i think was do able  ,  but i,d do the kawa as i think their nice to look at ,parts are always an issue but u learn as u go along , took me a few bikes to work out what to race    where are u ?  what cat do u want to race in ? pre 85 ?

Just looking for something to start out on. I prefer pre 85. Reason for considering KX's is i have never owned a Kawasaki for some reason, having owned 50+ bikes over the years. I had a YZ80k as a teenager so Yamaha K/L models also interest me. At the moment im just having alook around and if something i like the look of at the right price comes along i will get it. Thanks for the info.

kx parts arent as easy 2 find but rod kits piston kits clutch kits are and plastics are easy since nightmare racing has them ....so these are the most replaced parts when racing. i say go for it, ive had a lot of motocross bikes over the years and have found the kx range bullet proof

Be careful the rear shock cannot be rebuilt the frames have problems with breakage around the rear suspension and footpeg areas also the down tube welds crack the forks are to soft the rear shock is way to harsh it has a falling rate not rising rate if you are prepaired to work on those areas you will have a good bike
