On the subject of MX legends, here's one of Roger previously unpublished.  A bottle of good SA red wine to anyone who can pick where and when the event occurred.

Motomaniac,

Keep trying.  Is that Vic Allan or Andy Roberton on the Bultaco?

CONGRATULATIONS to Motomaniac.  A bottle of 2004 Eldridge Blue Chip Shiraz (Clare Valley).  Will have to arrange hand delivery. (I forgot to mention that I get to drink half of it  ;D).  I'll have to make the next one harder.  ;)

1978 at Farleigh Castle.  Mikola was outstanding on the Yamaha, but Noyce took the overall after Mikola fell at the bottom of the step down on lap 1 of Leg 2.  He had to wait until the whole field went by before he could get to his bike.  Rode through to take 2nd but Noyce won by taking out the 2nd leg (I think; it was a long time ago).

Don't know why Roger still had #1 plate?

Was it the colour of the summer sky that indicated Farleigh Castle?

Any-one know the other riders?  A dutchman on a KTM? Wolsink back in the field #5 ?? Who's on the Maico?

Yes, its Vic Allan.  The kilt on the helmet gives it away.  It was a hint because after 75 he was only back on Bultaco in 78.

Sorry, only one bottle per quiz.  ;D

You can see the top of Wolsinks helmet in the pack, not sure who's on #5.

My memory has failed me.

Lackey won overall (with a 2nd and 1st to Mikola's 1st and 2nd) and Noyce was 3rd.

Noyce was on Honda, not Maico.

I remember there was a Brit named Wilkinson who was on a Maico that year and riding very well.

The whatsisface was Velthoven (there was also Van den Broeck around at that time).  And Schmitz on a Maico ???
